AM- 8 Middleton. Nice early run. I have slept really good the last few nights and think that I have caught up on the sleep my body needed. Today's run was nice. I felt pretty good and relaxed with only a minor twinge in the legs here and there. I will take another ice bath tonight and use the foam roller again. (Landreth 482.35)

Good luck in St. George.

What kind of a warm up do you do before a marathon. This is my 4th and I have never really done a warm up. I am going for my Boston at SGM. I have asthma and my lungs for sure need a warm up I am just not sure how much to do? (you sound like someone who knows what they are doing, I hope it is okay I asked)

I'm getting excited for you guys! You and Clyde should do awesome after all your hard work this year. Hopefully one of you will be bringing home the bread! haha Good luck...go get it!

Good luck at St. George. Don't foam roller or massage within 48 hours before the big race. You will do great man.

Britta, I don't mind you asking at all. My warm up has varied; but now I just rely on a short 1 mile jog it out mile just to let things get going. I find it sufficient to let the body warm up on the first few miles just a touch slower than planned pace and not worry about it too much.

Thanks Mik'L - one of us BETTER get it!

Seth, that is exactly what I was thinking. Tonight will be my last push with it and then just go with whatever the legs have in them - I think some of the tightness is actually just nerves anyway!

I need to run an 8:24 pace. What would you consider a "touch slower".

From dave holt on Thu, Oct 02, 2008 at 09:31:07

Start out about 15 seconds slower for the first 3 or 4 miles. Don't get caught up in all the hype at the first and go out too fast. You will have plenty of time to catch up the minute or so you lose later on, especially when you are moving by all those people that did go out to fast.

thank you for the advice. Good luck to you at SGM.
