Race: river woods 10 mile (10 Miles) 00:02:06

Great route. It's more pleasant running the whole thing down hill (as opposed to half up-hill on the 10K two weeks ago). The first 3 miles or so had a perfect downhill grade. I pretty much coasted. At that point I decided to go for my best time on the first 10K portion of the race.

At about mile 5, I started feeling tired but pushed for a  good 10K time of 1:14. (PR) Then my times really dropped off -- from about 12 minute miles to 13 minute miles. Mile 8 and 9 were pretty tough. Mile 10 was faster since I was just thinking about finishing as quick as possible to get it over with.

I can't over-state how fun it was  and how great I felt for the rest of the day. My first 10 mile run and a good preview of how my 1/2 marathon will be in August. I just need to keep running long races on Saturday to build up my stamina. Plus drop as many lbs. as possible.

I'm pretty stiff and sore but not injured (thank goodness)

Good job on getting in your first 10 miles run. And bettering your 10k time. Just keep it up and be consistant through the summer and I think you will amaze yourself in the half. Keep on training. Make sure you get out tomorrow it will help work the stiffness out of your leg, even if it is at a crawling pace.

Hey, I'm so glad you had such a great experience! No regular person quite understands this until they go through the diligent training and support, huh?!

Great job on the race! I am not sure I could even keep up with you anymore:P

I think you are so going to beat your goal on the half. For me I'll just see if I can match your half time. Sound like a deal?

Thanks for the encouragement and rosy predictions josse, and Laurie. Tracy, that's a true observation.

At this point, all the "regular" people in my life seem pretty skeptical, or apathetic about the prospects of me running a half marathon, let alone a marathon next year -- but not "irregular" people (runners); they get giddy at the mere mention of the word "run".

Laurie, I think Christina and one of her friends are running the freedom run in centerville on July 4 www.centervilleut.net/UpDownload+index-req-getit-lid-498.html

Smeagol and I will run it too. You and Crashman should join us. I'm still trying to beat the 34 minute mark in a 5K.
