Short-Term Running Goals:

-Qualify for the 2024 Olympic marathon trials

Long-Term Running Goals:

-Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list. An Olympic Trials qualifier would be amazing.

-Break stroller records?

-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.

Personal:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home.

Tbh I had a sneaky idea to mark this entry as a race report and say it was a mile time trial in 3:59 to get people to click on this. You see, I am using this as social media to post my #givethanks stuff, particularly as it relates to running. So here are some running related things I am grateful for.

1. Coaches who care. I have had four of them. They are passionate about what they do and love their athletes.

2. Outside time. When other people are in their houses with the heat turned up, I love to "conquer the cold" by being outside in tights and a long-sleeved shirt on a long run and be actually sweating. That's pretty cool.

3. Geography. I love getting to know places based on my run. This includes the cities I live in as well as vacation spots I've been to. Some of my most tangible memories of Portland, Hawaii, and Montana for example are where I went running.

4. Healthy body. I would probably be overweight by now if I didn't run. As it is, I feel good in my own skin. I feel strong and healthy.

5. Life lessons. I feel that I am more disciplines, resilient, grateful, intelligent, and spiritual because of running.

6. Teammates. I have met some really fantastic people on my cross country teams.

7. Night runs. I don't do many of these, but they can be pretty fun.

8. So much more! I have been typing for like two straight minutes. It took me literally zero time to think of these things, and I am grateful for so much more that God has given me through running.

PS- felt better than I have in a while today.

Felt a little icky today in my hamstring particularly. Hopefully the workout tomorrow goes well. Hey, running 9 miles is better than no miles!

I am just grateful that I was able to do this run without hurting too bad in my adductor, hamstring, or anything else! It was a nice morning outside. I waited until 11:00 so it could be warm, which is helpful when you are hurting. I did the same route as my last workout in Mapleton except didn't plan to go as far. Just four miles. Goal was to go 5:30, 5:20, 5:10, 5:00 so I could ease into it without hurting myself. That wasn't too ambitious but it was my first hard work in almost three weeks too. However, today the wind blew south so I went out in 4:57 to my surprise. The rest of the run I ran into the wind (to clarify- it was definitely a wind but not like Murdock wind). Hard but I didn't feel like I pushed too much. 5:05, 5:07, 5:09 for the next three miles. So like 5:05 pace overall. That's something else to be happy about.

10 miles, cold but good. Legs feeling better for sure which is nice. I might start a Peg 37s-Cliftons-Peg 36s rotation.

Felt OK, not great in the hamstring.

Very very cold run that had some sketchy parts of it like roadkill, cops, and scary dogs, but also was nice in that my leg felt pretty good. I heated it this morning before leaving.
