Short-Term Running Goals:

-Qualify for the 2024 Olympic marathon trials

Long-Term Running Goals:

-Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list. An Olympic Trials qualifier would be amazing.

-Break stroller records?

-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.

Personal:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home.

Beautiful day. I didn't feel great. Doctor says I will need surgery but it is not pressing. He also gave me some advice to stretch but not lift. Achilles were pretty chill though.

6 by 400. I was worried about my Achilles but miraculously it went ok, pubic bone was alright too. 60, 60, 60, 60, 60, 59. Should've done the last one in 60 cuz I was redlining a little bit, but the other ones felt pretty good for being 60s. Just gotta recover now for Friday.

Race day! I went out in last place. I thought I was going a good pace! Like seriously, if you end up doing 67s, isn't a 67 first lap ok? Haha. I should probably work on getting out better anyway. I'm actually not sure of my splits. I kept hearing like 69 cuz they would time it from the first person of the second group. Felt pretty good until right about one mile. It was on that 400 that I distinctly remember starting to feel bad. I thought I hit one mile in about 4:32 which was on target, but I didn't think I'd be able to speed up enough like I had intended. For the next several laps I was hanging on for dear life. If you watch the video, you can tell I was off the chase pack. I literally didn't feel like I could make up the few meters without overdoing it. And this is only my second track 5K but I remembered the mistakes from my first one, and I was not going easy. It was hard all the way after mile one. I reached a turning point around 2 or 2.25 miles though because I realized that although I was hurting, the hurting wasn't unbearable. So I was able to keep grinding. I remember seeing 13:13 with a lap to go. Knowing we had hit previous laps in about 52 (I thought I had heard that) I thought I might have a shot at sub 14. I ran so hard and felt like I threw myself across. Did it!

I was wearing the new dragonflys. They felt really springy and good. Its hard to feel good about yourself because idk how much slower I would've been without them. Last year I would have been No. 41 in the NCAA, but a better comparison might be next year to see what a 13:59 would rank me. Anyway, good race. Really exciting to be part of something so special- we had three guys break 13:30 which should be unbelievable but it's not cuz I know them. All 9 of us ran 14:10 or faster.

14 treadmill miles cuz it was snowing like crazy. Our flight got cancelled and now we are stuck here. Dang it. But my pelvis felt not bad.
