4 mile run over to Hurricane and back. While I was on my run, I was thinking a little about my training for this coming year and what I would like to do with my running. I tend to go in cycles between being in shape and then being out of shape, being motivated then being very burnt out with running. The last few years it seems I gradually build up the miles, try to run a lot in the summer, then finish with the St. George Marathon and then basically nothing from October until January. I'm wondering if I would have just as much success just running 50 miles a week. (I mean actually running 50 miles a week, no counting any cross training as running miles) I guess what I would like to test is if I could continue to be competitive in local races running 50 miles a week no more no less. I would continue to focus on two big workouts a week and one longer run. I'm just wondering if the less miles, especially in the summer would help me feel more refreshed and more motivated. I am considering doing the Utah Grand Slam which I think will help keep me motivated through the summer. The plan for this year is to stay local, and try to save money and then next year maybe go out to Boston again or try New York.
