Haven't ran for over a week, it was freezing cold in Colorado. Anyway, I gained a few pounds and actually I'm in about the same place I was at the start of last year with regards to weight and being in shape or out of shape.

2009 was a decent year of running. Biggest accomplishments were winning the Spectrum 10K and setting a new old man PR at Enterprise 10K. I also had a pretty good race at the Provo Half. Both of my marathons were kind of disappointments.

For 2010 I'm considering doing the Utah Grand Slam and working on dropping the weight back down into the low 140's. The main goal is still to break 2:40 in a marathon.

4 mile run over to Hurricane and back.

While I was on my run, I was thinking a little about my training for this coming year and what I would like to do with my running. I tend to go in cycles between being in shape and then being out of shape, being motivated then being very burnt out with running. The last few years it seems I gradually build up the miles, try to run a lot in the summer, then finish with the St. George Marathon and then basically nothing from October until January.

I'm wondering if I would have just as much success just running 50 miles a week. (I mean actually running 50 miles a week, no counting any cross training as running miles) I guess what I would like to test is if I could continue to be competitive in local races running 50 miles a week no more no less.

I would continue to focus on two big workouts a week and one longer run. I'm just wondering if the less miles, especially in the summer would help me feel more refreshed and more motivated.

I am considering doing the Utah Grand Slam which I think will help keep me motivated through the summer.

The plan for this year is to stay local, and try to save money and then next year maybe go out to Boston again or try New York.

8 easy miles with Bill from Brentwood Bowling out toward Sand Hollow and then back.  The pace was pretty slow for Bill's liking 8:30 but it is going to take awhile before I'm back in shape.
