I had a terrible headache much of the day, and didn't know if I would get any miles in today. After two hours of driver's ed, I decided I would attempt a workout. My schedule called for 5x Pah Tempe hill repeats (.32m). These would be the first hill repeats of the new year and also turned out to be my first puke session of the new year.

2-21-07
 8-27-07 2-25-08
 2:09 2:14 2:12
 2:10 2:13 2:13
 2:08 2:13 2:17
 2:14 2:08 2:15
  2:09 2:17
  2:06

After a two mile warm-up and stretching I started the first one.

1-2:12 pretty good for the first one. in fact probably faster than I wanted the first one to be.

2-2:13 Interested to see if this would be much slower than the first. Turned out to be about the same time. After this one, is when the sickness really hit. On the recovery had to stop and leave my lunch on the side of the road.

3-2:17 Stomach feeling a little better, but overall I was weak on this repeat. Thought about stopping here, but instead just turned around and started my recovery job back down the hill and by the time I got to the bottom, I was ready to go again.

4-2:15 Better focus, but once again had to stop and puke on the recovery.

5-2:17 Weak, but trying hard just to finish.

Not the best workout, but glad I hung with it and did 5 repeats. Today was more a mental victory, I had a number of things going wrong and plenty of reasons I could have stopped, but I accomplished what I wanted to today. The cool-down was cut short just a bit 1.5 miles.

Pretty busy day today. Did 2 hours of driver's ed after school, got home and felt a little sick and tired, same headache problems as yesterday. Anyway went to Young Men's from 7:00 to 8:30, then decided to head out the door at 8:45 pm for some easy miles. I did 3 miles, then came back to the house to see if Sunny was ready to go for her 2 miles, she still didn't have Jarren to sleep, so I did another 2 miles easy, then came back and this time she was ready, we did our route over and past the bridge. Last time she did the mile going over in 11:48, tonight she did the mile over in 10:33 (much faster!) however, I think she over did it on the first mile, and the second mile back home which is downhill and should be easier, was actually the slower mile for her tonight (11:57) Oh well, it was still nice to go for a little run together and it helped me to get in two more easy miles. Tomorrow won't be as busy so maybe I will do a longer run.

Basketball this morning.

Decent run this evening. Did the La Verkin Overlook Loop, including the first two miles up the mountain trail which I was dreading, but did anyway.

1-10:50- trying my best to run/jog/walk whatever it took to get up the trail.

2-10:47- more of the same run/walk/jog/wipe off sweat/repeat

Had to stop for a bit at the top and of course take in the view, best part of the run you really have a great view of La Verkin, Toquerville, Hurricane.

Now the fun downhill miles, just wanting to take them easy.

3-7:20

4-7:25

5-6:30

6-7:00

7-7:55 ran into a fellow teacher and stopped to talk for a minute, forgot to stop my watch so this mile was actually closer to 7:00 minute pace or under.

Anyway, beautiful afternoon in Southern Utah. I might do a few more miles tonight with Sunny if she feels up to it. I'm planning on running with the club tomorrow if people are going to be there.

8 miles lost out in the desert reserve with Bill, Hayden, and Aaron. Nice afternoon, had some hip issues, which I think was due to running over the rocks.

2 miles in La Verkin before going over to run with Mike, Bill, and Bruce. Met up with those guys at the Dixie Center and did a nice 7 mile loop out through Bloomington. Nice afternoon and pace was decent average 7:20 overall. Bill and I did one more mile while I was waiting for Sunny to come back and pick me up.

Managed to hit 50 miles again this week, and plan to increase mileage next week toward 60 miles a week and try to maintain that through March.
