Went to the Valentines race with the wifinator.  Got there and went for a little warm up run, changed my shoes and we got going.  It was a fun race but the cross country kid who runs all the races was here as well as another fast guy so we 3 were a decent distance ahead of the rest.  Splits were 5:49, 5:47, 5:51, and 40.16 for an AP of 5:48.  Not too shabby.  You can read Bec's blog.  She won the ladies and won a cool spike ball thingy. She did a great job :)

Ok so I wanted to run the half but my knee is still being weird so I ran the 5k instead.  I warmed up by running the first half mile of the marathon with Becca poo and I ran back.  The race was pretty chill.  No visible competition at the start.  There were a few kids that looked serious at the front but not too serious.  I think I caused everyone to go out faster than they wanted to.  I heard them close to me for about a half mile and I was at a 5:50 pace. I didn't hear them after that.

It was an out and back so it seemed super fast actually.  My first mile was 5:50 and then it was about 6:05 for the next two.  I finished and my watch was saying closer to 3.2 so I would say my time was closer to the 18:40sh range.  I got a little medal and a little teddy bear with the number 1 around his neck.  It was a fun race.  Love me some 3.1

This was an awesome race!!  Laughlin throws an adventure race every year that is kind of like a triathlon only with about a mile of rafting instead of swimming.  Another difference is that it's a relay.  We did it as an extreme team so there were 4 of us that did the whole thing together. Twas me, Rebecca, and 2 friends from my pilot training class.

We averaged about 20 mph on the bikes and we were drafting.  My friend Joe had some music blasting on his fanny pack while we biked and it was way fun.  We actually passed the team the won during the bike portion however we ended up getting a flat tire.  Jeff then had to change the tube 3 times before we actually got it to fill up without pinching and losing all the air.  Lucky too since it was our last tube.  After that delay we had to wait 15-20 minutes at the first transition area for our driver to get there with our running shoes.

The run consisted of some obstacles and a huge hill.  From there, 3 of us went out on the raft for the most horrible experience on earth (it was a small raft).  We then had to run up the hill and climb over a wall to cross the finish line.  Good times :)

You do such a good job maintaining some mileage while you are stressed with work. 34 miles! That is really good.

I planned to only run about 35 or so miles this week and when I left to run with Becca I was only planning on doing about 6.  Legs felt good though so I ran more and planned to get 38.  I turned around and Becca kept going.  Then on my way home I just kept thinking about how all I would need would be 2 miles to get a 40 mile week.  I finally just ran 2 extra miles.  Oh well.

I actually did speed work today.  It was the first session in about a year if I remember correctly so I figured it was post-worthy.  One mile warm-up to the track and did a couple of other warm up exercises.  I did 4x800 with 3 min rests and then 4x400 with 2 min rests.

Track has an uphill/into-wind portion so that works you pretty good.  My goals were under 3 mins for the 8's and 85 for the 4's.

Not too shabby.

Finally ran a race.  It's been a while.  I was trying to decide between the 10k and the 5k on the morning of.  Seeing as how I have run very little and have done almost no speed work for the past year, I decided to stick to the ole 3.1.  I was very glad I did.

There was a running club there from Mexico that was all decked out their race gear.  It looked like they were going to be pretty quick.  Going out I had a hard time deciding whether to stick with them.  I was afraid I might not be able to hold the pace.  Fortunately they settled into a pace that I felt I could hold.  I was about 10 meters back from a pack of three of them for about a half mile.  There was another guy who was another 20 meters ahead of them and increasing the gap.

We had a pretty good headwind so as we approached a hill I figured it would be in my best interests to cozy up behind the group.  I fell in with them and got pretty comfortable actually.  A couple of times they surged a bit trying to pull away but I wasn't hurting too much so I just kept with them.  One dude fell off and then another.  At about 2 miles I finally pulled ahead of the last guy.  He was right with me until about the last half mile.  I kept my speed up just enough to make a gap.  I figured at that point he was hurting just as much as I was and I highly doubted he had any will-power left to close the gap.  I picked up my pace for the last bit and crossed the finish line a good 20 meters ahead of him.

I didn't win the race but it was probably the most fun I have had racing here in Del Rio.  It feels good to race against people that your level.  It pretty much just becomes a game of will power.  Great race!

Race people were retarded though unfortunately and didn't know how to work chip timing.  Oh well...

 Splits: 5:51, 5:52, 5:46, 0:41 AP was 5:47 with Garmin distance of 3.14.

Great race babe! I am so proud of the will power you have to pull ahead and keep a good pace. Way to play mind games with the amigos. :)

Definitely not an amazing time.  There were only about 15 racers or so and as soon as we started I knew it wasn't going to be very competitive.  I just followed the van and my pace was pretty easy.  I still got pretty tired though so the 19:34 was kinda lame but it was still a fun race.  I wasn't wearing my racing flats because I didn't want to destroy my calves for this next weekend's race.  Rebecca did very well placing 3rd overall (guys and gals)

Good race for sure!  At the start we were in a pack of about 6 staying together for the first mile.  I decided to pull ahead at that point and 2 dudes stayed with me.  Unfortunately I didn't have enough gas in the tank to hold that pace and fell off a bit.  The leader then pulled ahead and I couldn't catch him.  We all ended up finishing within about 12 seconds of each other.

This actually wasn't a race.  It was a base fun run but around here you take any chance you get to run fast with some competition.  There was some dudes running fast so it worked.  It wasn't fun though.  The first couple of miles were alright but the last mile hurt like a mother beast.  It was a mandatory event so there were hundreds of runners

Won me some turkey today!  So did Rebecca!  There was a decent amount of people today.  The weather was also good.  As we went out there were a couple who were out in front. I stuck behind one guy for about a quarter mile and he was already falling off pace so I passed and kept about a 50 meter gap behind the lead guy.  He was a cross country runner so I figured I would see what happened.  I didn't want to kill myself.

Nothing much happened throughout the race but I slowly closed the gap for almost 2 miles.  Coming up on the last half mile I was right behind the lead and I passed him moving pretty quick.  I kept my pace up and developed a good 20 second lead on him by the finish so I figured my tactics worked well.  This was my fourth turkey trot... FIRST TIME I WON A TURKEY!  WOOP!

Ended up being an AP of 5:47... 5:47, 5:55, 5:44, 32
