Just got back from the Doc.  There is a small spot of "dead" bone on the the Fibula (smaller of the two bones in the lower leg, I think).  It isn't on the weight bearing portion at the top, it is on the back and only comes in contact with the upper portion of my knee when it's bent.  That's why it is so painful when I squat.  It was probably caused by an interruption in the blood supply to that spot.  It has improved over the last two months so there must be some circulation there.  When this happens to the bone on the weight bearing areas of the knee, sever arthritis occurs and they do knee replacements.  Nasty.  I'm not anywhere near that.  And because of where it's located, running may not affect it too much.  He said I could start out with a mile and see how my knee does over the next day or so.  Start off slow and easy.  I hope it goes well.

How crazy... I've never heard of this before. Sorry life is handing you this blow right now, but the good thing is that hopefully you can run again.

On a completely different note, how is Rachael? I've been thinking about her recently.

Rachael is good. She's still running. Here's her latest blog entry.

Thanks! Just got a little caught up :) I need to remember her blog and check in every once in a while. I'm impressed she is still running and doing a good job at it as well!
