Well, after being down all last week with Bronchitis/pneumonia I was finally able to go out and run again. I felt pretty sluggish and was glad to run with my buddy Charlie Hale. About three miles into it my IT band in my right knee started to bug me. I had to cut my run short and meet up with Charlie. He did the 5miles, I did less. Hopefully my knee just needs to warm up and it will be okay! I am grateful to be back running again, hopefully I can get the mileage up a bit more again this week.

Had a 0230 formation for night MOUT OPs. Ridiculous. Anyway, we did end up getting off early, so I went to the gym and ran five miles. It was a lot harder than it should have been, I think I am still recovering. I was able to get one mile at about 6:30 pace. It took me a couple miles to get warmed up though. Tomorrow is our 10mile ruck march so I may count that as a bit of a run tomorrow.

Did our 10 mile ruck march today. It was okay, I was a bit sore afterwards but that is what 45-50lbs extra weight will do to you.

First run for a long time. This whole week we were out at the FOB running missions for like 19 hours a day. There was a lot of sit around time which could have been concolidated so that we could have had some PT. I felt it today though, my cardio was not where it has been and my legs felt like cement. PT test is on Tuesday...I hope I can get 2 miles in under 13min. We'll see!

I ran today for the first time during the week in a while. Hopefully this week and IBOLC will be better for running. The first two miles I ran, I paced a friend from my Platoon here at BOLC II. She runs really slow and needed someone to pace her. Lets just say we ran two miles in 20:45 and she didn't pass...wow it was painfully slow.

Later tonight I went out and just ran two miles on my own to see if I am still able to get it under 13min. I did it in 12:50 and was feeling pretty tired. I have lost a lot but hopefully tomorrow morning when I run my PT test and compete in the Iron Voyager I will do well!

So this morning I competing in the BOLC II Iron Voyager competition. You had to be able to max the PT test in the 27-31 age category for push-ups and sit-ups (which is harder) and the 21-26 for the run (13:00 for two miles). I ended up doing pretty well and maxed all of the that, then we did pull-ups and dips to make the PT test worth 500 points. I ran my two miles in 12:50, it is a bit hard, but I am fighting through the pain and the slugishness of not doing anything for the past 7 weeks. I ended up with a 511 and it was a lot of fun! Another Battalion coin to add the collection.

Today was our Battalion graduation run. We did about 5 miles averaging a 9:00 in mile. Pretty slow, but I was able to be a road guard and get a little more sprinting which was a better workout. It was nice to get a little longer run in. Things should start to lighten up so I can get back to doing some more running!

This is the most distance I have run in at least a month...and I felt it. I averaged 7:53 which is definitely slower than what I was a few months ago. I was able to do 10 miles in about 70 min...will I ever make it back to where I used to be? Or better for that matter? Frustrating. 1:14:06 for 9.40

7:51  7:39  7:33  7:23   7:35  7:45   8:28   8:21   8:19

Then the final .40 in 3:12.

It was SO nice to get out and run today. I almost hit running every day this week...and really should have not missed Thursday. I am glad that I don't have any field time in the next little while, hopefully I can start picking up my mileage again.

Today I felt pretty sore and tight from running so much yesterday. At mile 4 I saw my wife Heather and finished running back with her, except for the last .75 mile. I was averaging a 7:30 to that point and felt pretty good about that given I haven't run this many miles in a few weeks. I finished the last .75 miles at a 6:12 pace, so I got a little speed in and ended up averaging a 7:43 pace. My miles went something like this:

 8:01   7:35   7:40   7:24   8:30   7:23

Had an early formation this morning to start IBOLC inprocessing. That went pretty well and it was very organized. Already I am thinking this course is going to be ten times better than BOLC II.

After we were released (about 1700) I went to the gym and ran and then did a little 10min. cross fit workout. I started with an easy warm-up mile and then hit two miles in 12:45 and the cooled down. I have another PT test tomorrow so I wanted to make sure that I could hit a sub 13:00min two mile again.

Didn't get any running in today. We had some other kind of PT and then got off late because of an informal meet and great with some brass out here...

Finshed this RAW, Ranger Athlete Warrior, assessment today. We started with benching 185lbs as many times as possible and then dead lifting 225lbs as much as possible. When I got to the dead lift, I started to pick up the weight and something in my lower back/behind popped and I stopped. I am pretty sure it is just a pulled muscle of some kind, but it made me pretty nervous!

After that we did this thing called a 'beep drill'. You put a CD in a car and use 20m with a line on both ends that you have to run to every time it beeps. It progressively gets faster and when you can't reach the line twice in a row, you are out. The mile ended up being around 10min. but we were sprinting in the end to try and reach that dang line. It was pretty intense!

Couldn't get out for another run unfortunately...

This morning we were supposed to do combatives, but ended up running a little over two miles.

After the workday I went to the gym and did 5 miles. I finished in 36:20. I wanted to keep it kind of light, but get a couple harder miles in. I started off around 8:10 and then picked it up throughout the run. I finished the last little bit with a 6:30 pace or so. Even indoors I still sweat like crazy! Gotta love the South.
