I started today off with a 4 mile warmup to test out the foot/legs.  Everything felt ok, so I decided to do the workout that was scheduled.  My legs were still a bit tight and sore, but the arch pain was gone.  So, like I said, I ran 4 mile warmup (7:25 pace) then changed my shoes (put on my new fastwitch flats) and ran over to Logan High track doing some strides on the way.  The workout was a ladder of 200,300,400,600,800,600,400,300,200 at a goal pace of 5:20 (dream goal of 5K pace).  It was dark and windy, and I ended up running by feel only checking my splits at the end of each segment.

200-:38

300- :56

400-1:17

600- 1:59

800- 2:39 (I was having a real hard time breathing during and after this one, phlem issues)

600- 2:02 (lactic acid is killing me)

400- 1:17

300- 1:00

200- :31.95 (all out)

Cool down home

Phlegm issues- nice! Not every day you hear that.

Are you running any evenings this week?

From Dale on Tue, Oct 21, 2008 at 11:01:37

Can't believe you're hammering so soon after SG. Glad that killer lactic acid only cost you 3 seconds! Good job.

Jon - Not sure yet. Probably. When do you want company?

Dale - Thanks. I am losing my mind....

Great run Cody. Did you buy a pair of the Brooks Burn from the site I sent you yesterday?

From cody on Tue, Oct 21, 2008 at 17:58:44

Kory -

Nope, they didn't have my size.

Nice workout.

Cody, nice workout.

Are you still following Tinman ideals, or is this something different?

From cody on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 16:37:40

Paul -

I am still mostly following him and his suggested paces. I am currently preparing for a 5K race though so it is very different from marathon training. Tinman is most helpful for marathon training and not 5K (I believe).

Short answer = I have no idea what I am doing

From RivertonPaul on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 16:47:07

Thanks Cody. He recently published a generic pace chart, in case you haven't seen it yet.

I think you know what your doing. You've started off right for the 5k by injecting speed work in your training.

Now I've been training for a Half Marathon race on November 1st, and I don't know what I'm doing, because I've never ran a HM before.

From Predog on Fri, Oct 24, 2008 at 01:34:38

that is a killer workout...we used to do it all the time for track in high school...you do a few of those and your legs turn into steel...not that yours aren't already. But I've found it great for anything from the 800 to 5k's.
