What is your max heart rate?

From Cody on Tue, Sep 05, 2006 at 08:07:08

I am not sure what my max is. I have kept it at 192 during a 5K race. I thought I would die though. If the 220 minus age is accurate then my max would be 94. I try and keep my HR between 160 and 170 on the hard runs.

What range do you run in for your runs?

From Sasha Pachev on Tue, Sep 05, 2006 at 09:00:53

192-196 does sound about right then. My max heart rate is 170. 220-age gives me 187. However, 220-age is only a rough approximation. There are many exceptions.

On an easy run my HR is around 120-135. I hit 146 at 6:00 pace, 152-155 at 5:40, 160-163 at 5:30. Whenever I monitor HR it is more out of curiousity than to make decisions on how fast I am going to go. I rely on the natural body feedback more than anything to choose the pace.
