I did some real running today!

I did an hour of trail riding up by the Red Cliff's recreation area. It would have been a great ride other than I got a flat (slow leak) and kept having to pump it up and then peddle like crazy for about 10 min's and then repeat the process over and over. The good part was that I was in like a tempo mode much of the journey. I was huffing and puffing and must have looked like something else to the people on horseback who were out on the trail too. When I got back to the Jeep I thought maybe I'll try a little run. I wasn't really dressed for the occasion (I had some light weight hiking pants on, old wore out running shoes, shirt and a jacket). I slowly ran up around the campground and back to the Jeep for 2.1 miles of real (unaided by the treadmill) running. It felt really good to be a runner again. The hamstring pain was at a 5 again but a steady 5 meaning it didn't feel like it was getting any worse. So that was sweet! Maybe I'll try another short run tomorrow.

Great job on the run and getting back to your Jeep with a fast workout on the bike.

We all are fighting injuries it seems. It must be the heavy mileage and tough races in 2008.

Hey so I missed the transition - what's with the tie and the blog change?

Oh, on the hammy, my left got jealous of my right ham which has hurt since August and still has soreness around a 3. My doc says maybe my tendons want a month off, I told him they'll get three months of reduced mileage (tax season) and they better be ok with that.

You're looking like a geeky CPA in that picture, how's tax preparation as a job field sound?

From Superfly on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 19:16:16

Kory- I think your right. 2008 was a killer on the "meat" of the blog. We all pounded ourselves to death. Time to regroup!

Michelle- How rude! A geeky CPA? I'll pass on the tax field. I'll leave that for smart people like you. I was thinking more like a Christion Dior model. I actually came across that picture in some old stuff. When I worked for IHC they had me get some "professional photos" done for all my media stuff ( a PR job). Anywho I thought it would kind of be fun to put it up and then it also matched the theme in my mind. "Do I run for fun anymore or is it more like a job now-a-days?" (pre injury feelings)

P.S. Good luck in PHX your going to do great!

Makes me grateful that I can run to hear all of you talking about injuries. Hopefully I will learn from you and avoid anything too major.

I'll be running about 6:30 am tomorrow Clyde if your up for it!

From Superfly on Thu, Jan 08, 2009 at 19:50:43

Nate thats what my plan was too. But then I started running 100+ mile weeks for months and month and 2 years over 4,000 miles.... now I'm here.

So moral of the story- give yourself a break when needed and leave speed a lone 90% of the time.

Thanks for the invite in the morning but I'll most likely only go 3 or so and for a run that short I'll wait until it warms up.

From wheakory on Thu, Jan 08, 2009 at 22:36:07

Clyde's right about giving yourself a break. I've done two years of over 3,500 miles with no real breaks, and I'm experiencing injury issues too. The body can only go so far and then it needs to relax a little.
