20 mile bike ride.  I got a flat with 3 miles to go!!  I hate flats.  I hope I don't get a flat on race day.  That could really screw things up.  I'm going to race with fresh tubes and tires.

Yo Cheston. Just wondering if maybe your PSI Tire pressure is to blame? It seems you get a lot of flats. Just wondering because I have about 350 miles on my bike and no problems in the least. Wondering if maybe you're pumping them a little too taught with air? Because i'm a big rider (6'2 and about 172 lbs)

It could be. I'm new to the sport, so I don't know what I'm doing. The PSI suggests 115-125. I pump them up to about 115 each ride.

I normally don't get flats when my tires are new. It's about at 500 miles. That's when the flats start coming. I'm 5'7" 145, so I don't think it has anything to do with my weight.

What kind of tires do you ride with and at what PSI? I ride with specialized Mondo. I've heard a lot of bad reviews about them. I'm getting ready to switch over to Michelin Ironmans.

I use Kenda K-152s which was what the bike came with. I only use pressure ~ 90 PSI though, which is what it suggests. Maybe since I'm at a lower PSI that leaves me a little slower but less prone to flats? We'll have to see :) What kind of repair kit do you carry with you on your bike? Also, do you wear a jersey? I've been trying to find a reliable dealer for bike jerseys that aren't an arm and a leg

Thanks man. I'll try backing off on the PSI a little. The repair kit I use is a Wal-mart special. It's kind of like a bicycle leatherman. It was just about everything on it. I think the brand it bell. I also carry three extra tubes, a patch kit and a bicycle pump. It all fits in a zip up pouch and strapes behind the bike seat, another Wal-mart special.

As far as jersey's go, I'm just getting started. I wear padded shorts and then what ever shirt I happened to grab. I do have a full piece spandex triathlon suit I'm going to wear for the triathlon. I pick up all my gear at Benguim Cyclery in Salt Lake City.
