Happy New Years Everyone!  Every New Years Day, Brandon and I try to do something fun, that we haven't done before.  (Or go somewhere we haven't gone).  This year, it was really difficult to figure out what we should do.  We decided to go for a bike ride (with Melanie) and have a picnic at the park.  I've never been on a picnic with Brandon before, we that was new!  And... another new thing happened...  Brandon told me I was in better shape then him.  I want it in writing, so here we go! :o)

I hope everyone is having a great day!

YOU ROCK!!! And do get that in writing becasue he may never admit it again!

You are tiny!!! 5 feet tall and teeny! My daughter that is turning 16 in two weeks (scary) is 4 feet 11 and 1/2 inches short (cause that is not tall). She is a shrimpo!

From Burt on Sat, Jan 03, 2009 at 01:04:00

You may be in better shape, but I bet he writes better than you. (Notice how I used the word than and not then.)

From Camille on Sat, Jan 03, 2009 at 10:54:29

Burt - Dude... do you ever have anything nice to say?

Kelli - LOL Your daughter is a shrimp, just kidding! I only have a 1/2 inch on her. My mom is 4' 10-1/2" That 1/2 inch is extremely important to her. I come from a small family (small in stature). Hopefully Melanie gets a little bit of her daddy's height.

3.250.000.00

3.25 miles with the pain level of 1.5/10.  It didn't really hurt, but I could feel it, and it was a slight discomfort.

So... you ever wonder what an amateur runner/mom/engineer/cake decorator does on the holidays?  This is what I've been working on (off and on) for the last few days.  It's a birthday present for my neice (who is turning 12).  I have to wait a WHOLE month to give it to her, and it's goign to drive me crazy.  So, I thought I'd show it off to you all.

Here's a picture of my cute husband modeling it for me :o)

And a close up.

Okay... it's true, I'm pretty lame.  But just humor me.

I hope everyone is having a great day!

She is going to LOVE it!! Especially during this time of the year when heaven is cuddling up on the couch all nice and warm watching a good flick!

Nice job on the run as well. Your pain is really coming down. AWESOME!!

I'm jealous too - I tried running pushing my cat on a stroller the other day but it didn't work too well ;)

Lucia, you make me smile!

I have this mental image of a cat in a stroller and I can't shake it...I just keep giggling.

From Lucia on Tue, Jan 06, 2009 at 12:02:12

Good thing I have a cat then, otherwise I'd have to take a squirrel and that would be even funnier! :)

From Camille on Tue, Jan 06, 2009 at 12:04:42

55 minutes of kickboxing and then 20 minutes of yoga focusing on abs.  The yoga felt really good after the kickboxing.  I have scout board of reviews tonight and I may run home from them, depending on what Brandon and Melanie's plans are.

I'm trying a new recipe tonight and it smells yummy.  One of my New Year Resolutions is to try new recipes every week, and more particularlly recipes that use a variety of veggies.  If you have any good ones you want to share, let me know.

30 min kickboxing, 40 min yoga (20 focusing on the core muscles and 20 doing stress relieve poses), then 2.47 miles at an average pace of 7'58".

I'm a little stiff and sore from kickboxing yesterday.  I was definitely working some muscles that hadn't had attention for a while.  Stretching felt REALLY good today because of it though. :o)

So, no running today, but it wasn't a total loss of a day.

After work I went to help Shelley (my friend who watches Melanie during the day).  She had asked me to watch her kids while she went to her daughter's parent/teacher conference.  I was there for about 1.5 hours.  Out of the 90 minutes, I spent 30 +/- minutes playing hop-scotch, jumping with different children in my arms, and then another 45 +/- minutes dancing with various children in my arms to Shrek's party music (by the way, there are only about 5 songs, and I have them all memorized now).

If that wasn't workout enough, I came home and put on my running clothes (planning to take Melanie for a run).  By time I was already to go, she was dead asleep.  Instead, I put her in her crib and did 30 min of kick boxing and another 20 min of yoga.

So, I didn't run... but as you can tell, I have been running around with my head chopped off.  Speaking of which, it's time to make dinner!

5 songs memorized in an hour and a half. Amazing!

I had to sing (actually lip synced) the Air Force song every day for 12 weeks and I still can't get it right.

From Camille on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 08:25:55

Marion - thanks!

Mike - it really isn't too amazing for me. I can memorize music really fast (asuming I can hear and understand the lyrics) Brandon jokes that I only have to hear a song once. The point is though that after repeating those 5 songs 3, even 4 times, I was completely wore out (mentally)

From kungfublonde on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 12:02:04

I ran for exactly 60 mins (thank you NikePlus for telling me all that fun information), and it turned out to be 7.21 miles.  Not too shabby.

I went to Grandma Great's today and she taught me knitting 101.  I have some things to learn and then I can go back to learn the next thing.  I'm making dish clothes.  Knitted dish clothes are 10x's better than crochets dish clothes, and crocheted dish clothes are 100x's better than the crummy ones you get at the store...  so, my math friends, who can tell me how many times better the KNIT dish clothes are than the CRUMMY ones you get at the store?  :o)  Don't you love little brain teasers?!?

From Camille on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 10:41:45

Amber - yeah, it was kind of random. I saw that you where the most recent entry, and I thought I'd click and say hi. :o) But when I saw the picture of your family, I had to comment on how cute your family is.

If I tell you how the weather is here, you may get upset. It's beautiful. right now it's 42 degrees.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:24:53

I am not good at math, so I will leave that one to Burt.

GREAT run in 60 minutes! What is that pace, I wonder. More math, time to get out of your blog.

From Camille on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:29:58

Kelli - I love it. Actually, my average pace was 8.33 min/mil. And to answer the riddle of the day, that would mean that knitted dish clothes are 1000x's better than the crummy ones.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:32:51

Seriously, too much math for my brain! Thanks for the answers, and great PACE (now that I know what it was!)

From Camille on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:36:20

:o) Kelli - you are too sweet! I don't know if I'm running too fast (since I'm technically recovering from that pelvis fracture), but it just feels comfortable. I think I may try to run slower today. I don't know. In the meanwhile, today my knee has really been bugging me when I go down the steps at the office. Not when I walk up them or on flat ground, only when I go down.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:43:45

Be careful! That is how my IT band felt and that stunk (still does!)

I think going with what feels good is always the BEST thing to do.

From Camille on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:46:18

Well, can I ask you for your advice? I really want to be able to participate in the Ragnar (side question: you are coming down here for it, right?). If I don't run at all, I obviously won't be in shape for it... but if I over do it, I could injure myself, definitely not good. Yesterday's run didn't feel uncomfortable at all. No pain. But today, like I said, that stupid knee is bothering me. What would you do? How would you approach training for the Ragnar?

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:50:39

Yes, I am coming down to run! YEAH---warm running, I can hardly wait.

I say just to take it easy. To me Ragnar is more about the fun. I am still running at paces 1-2 minutes slower than what I SHOULD be running, but I do not want the pain to come back!

Here is what I did: I cut my miles in half for a few weeks and ran really slow. I stretched a TON (yoga almost every day in some form or another), then I tried a few faster runs to test it all out. Once that was okay, I got my mileage back up some and now I am just winging it! I run at a slower but more comfortable pace, I take a day off if it hurts (look back a few weeks---lots of days off, and this is when I finally started to get rid of the pain), and I do not push it in any way!

I am not a very good advice-giver, but I hope that helps! Your injury was pretty serious, so i would really just take it easy!

From Camille on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:55:20

Kelli - I really appreciate your advice! I've been doing a lot of yoga lately, and it's been helping with other aches and pains (my stinking back... Melanie's getting too heavy). I haven't really been running very far (you'll notice that besides yesterday, all my distances are really small), and really, haven't had too much pain. If it hurts, I tune it down or cut it short. I'll just keep doing that.

Yes, the Ragnar is just for fun. I'm super excited. But Burt is out for blood. LOL, and I'm a little slower than the rest of the team. (okay, alot slower).

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:56:57

From Camille on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:59:30

We are both in Van 2. I'm leg 10 and he is leg 11

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:01:50

And I am leg 12!!!!

From Camille on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:02:58

From Burt on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:06:57

Don't think I can't hear you two.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:07:18

WALTER! I think he is running leg 8. His wife is 7, my husband is 9, and then two of the HP's from our ward are 10 and 11. The other van is from Heber, I met one guy through the blog (asking for people who wanted to run) but I do not think he is running anymore. Their part of the team is 6 men from some company called Redmond Inc that pays for the race, the hotel, the flights, everything!! Lucky guys. SO, we do not know them at all. It will be weird to try and find them at exchange points.

Our name is Redmond Racers (for their work). How about you guys?

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:08:11

Are you scared, Camille??? I am not.

From Camille on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:09:17

Nope, not in the slightest. Ha ha ha! Though, Burt is in the next room over. And given that I have lost my voice completely... he could come in here and beat me up, and no one would hear my cries. LOL

From Burt on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:10:48

You should be, Kelli. And IT IS ON.

From Camille on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:13:17

Walter's poor wife is running the 9.6 mile leg? Burt assigned one of our bosses to that leg, and he isn't flattered. LOL

From Burt on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:18:07

I actually told Bethany today that I'd be switching you with her. So now you're number 8.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:19:00

Well, we thought that was the easiest, are we wrong??? We do not know the area, so we just went by the rankings they gave each leg.

How about you and Burt rank legs 7-12 so we know who to assign everything to! Nothing is set in stone, we can switch it up. Walter is supposed to be getting back to me on what he thinks.

From Camille on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:22:00

Well, there you go, I'm runner 8.

I'll take a look at the legs again when I get home and get back to you Kelli. I just know that runner 7 has a really long leg.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:23:30

Alrighty, thanks!!! I am off to feed myself some lunch and head to 3 year old ballet class. Fun stuff.

You two get back to work and have a great day!

From Burt on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 17:21:06

I don't know how recently, but they have changed the course and the legs slightly. In order of difficulty ranking from easiest to hardest for Van #2, I would say:

10, 8, 7, 11, 12, 9.

From Camille on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 18:02:00

Notice that Bethany and I have the easiest legs on in our van. LOL

From Burt on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 18:28:24

That's because we have super JamesW from the blog in our van, also.

From Camille on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 18:31:55

Went for a fun run before Brandon had to go to scouts.  Came home to yummy tacos (thanks hunny!)

I had some fun with Melanie today.  She used to move around the magnets on the fridge, so I found some fun magnets at Target (in the Dollar Spot) and put them on the front door.  She likes to move them around and will sit at the front door playing with the magnets for almost an hour.  We played with them together today.

Here she is as Princess Melanie, playing with her magnets. :o)

I did some other fun things today.  Melanie and I went to the park this morning...

We had fun playing on the swings.  Melanie made sure we tried EVERY swing at the park.  Mommy was a little dizzy on the walk home. LOL  Melanie also enjoyed the sand.  We tried the slide, but I'm pretty sure it was hot enough to melt her flesh off...

Then we went to Grandma Great's house, and she taught me some more knitting basics.  I made this hat and also a dish cloth.  I don't have a picture of the dish cloth...  o-well.

Yeah, great job. Way to lose your job. Kelli, you are so insensitive.

From Burt on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 19:13:22

Well, Camille, it was awkward going to the meeting that you'd set up without you.

From Camille on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 19:16:15

Really? Did anyone ask where I was?

From Burt on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 19:16:20

Now I sit back, and wait for Kelli to read Camille's blog more carefully picking up on the fact that Camille was let go, have her apologize profusely, and then call me a jerk for saying she was insensitive. This is going to be great.

From Burt on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 19:17:49

Camille - no one asked. But I told Brad today, and he did mention that he noticed you weren't there even though you set it up.

From Camille on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 19:22:13

you told Brad? I was told not to tell RWCD. What did he say? How did it come up?

From Burt on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 19:30:33

I was told not to either, but Mark and I talked and said we're not going to hide it either. So when he called today and started asking questions like, "Are you going to lose your job? Would Atwell keep you over Camille?", I could no longer hide it. So, now they know. He did say that they were just giving that one job to EPS. Hopefully they honor that, and the other jobs get kicked off soon.

From Camille on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 19:36:09

Wow... I wonder what prompted those questions. Hopefully they will honor that and give you the work... if not, I'm sorry brother, but you'll be pounding the pavement soon too. sucks. I'm glad that Brad was concerned for your job. I can only hope that he was sad to hear about me.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 22:49:50

Okay, did I miss a day or something?? I thought you were joking about the job thing. Did you get laid off? Man, this economy is freaking me out!

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 22:55:50

Oh, for crying out loud, now I have read EVERYTHING. The e-mails in my inbox were all mixed up and I did not get the "insensitive" one until last!!! Burt, you big jerk!

Okay, so you rode your bike to work, and then got laid off? I am still so very confused.

But---the "GREAT JOB" comment was on the riding the bike to and from work, as was clearly stated. I picked up on the not having a job, but I thought you were kidding and I had missed some inside joke!

SO, now I am apologizing profusely for being so insensitive and not reading between the lines or getting it. But I do have the excuse of an average of two hours of sleep every night for the last 3 weeks. Does that help my insensitivity and stupidity plea?? I am SO SORRY about your job. That stinks. BURT, get her job back for her!

From Camille on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 22:58:30

Kelli - I wasn't joking, I just was still a little in shock when I wrote that and didn't actually want to say the words "Laid off". I was laid off yesterday. If they get some work they think they may get within the next 30 days, they can call me back... if not, it's a perminate termination. So depressing. So, I spent the day with Melanie and while she was napping, I made a million phone calls.

From Camille on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 23:02:33

Kelli - I love you... no worries. I knew you were talking about the bike ride... I figured you didn't read the second paragraph. And like I said, it was a little encrypted because I didn't want to say the words "laid off". Also because I wasn't suppose to tell anyone... for reasons I don't understand and obviously haven't followed too closely. I didn't get to say good bye to everyone yesterday because I wasn't suppose to tell them.

The economy is very depressing. I hope something changes a little (a lot really, but it will probably happen slowly)

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 23:11:03

I promise you that I DID read the second paragraph, it just went over my head. It is not hard to go over my head, really!!! That really stinks! I do not get why you could not tell anyone, that seems odd. I would go back and tell everyone good bye and tick them all off. DUMB!!! That is a bummer, it is kind of running rampant right now lay offs and such. It is scary!! I have always said i was glad my husband works for the government, but they are even having major bidget issues. Scary stuff!

Good luck to in whatever you decided to do (find a job, wait it out and hope to go back, etc). That just stinks! Take some very long runs and SCREAM while you run!!!

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 23:13:55

DID you post the morning bike ride in the am and the afternoon in the pm after you found out? I am just trying to figure out why I was so confused?!? I am a lost cause. OFF to bed I go!

From Burt on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 11:00:26

I love you, too, Kelli. But not in an awkward way. In a - I can tease you because you're my friend - kind of way.

From Camille on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 11:51:39

Kelli - You are too cute. :o) I did post the morning ride to work... then after I got home I posted the second paragraph. No worries.

From Kelli on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 17:30:34

Well, at least that double posting made me feel somewhat better about why I was so confused!

Thanks for loving me anyway---both of you!!

Good luck on the job hunting! At least you have cute Melanie to keep you company!!

OH---you should look into a cake business on the side. SERIOUSLY!!! Your cakes are amazing. People would pay for those, I know I would!

From Camille on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 17:39:40

I have thought about that. I don't even know how I would go about that... but they are sure fun to make.

3.24 miles...  little pain...

So, I spent the day with Melanie today.  She is walking all over the place.  It's so cute, all wobbly.  I know soon I'll be happy that I'v been running... because I'll be running after her. :o)

6.27 miles on hilly terrain.  I was good until the last .5 mile, and then I was in a lot of pain so I ended up walking the last mile to my house.  I feel better now.  I'll have to watch that pelvis pain.  I don't want to re-fracture it.

I got home today to my first rejection email.  I was laid off on Tuesday (there I said it), and yesterday spent the whole day calling a bunch of people I know and applying to every engineering position I could find.  And today...  today I got my first "We got your application; however, you aren't a finalist".  Hmmm...  better keep trying.

I'm sorry to hear the Camille. That is too bad. Nice run, though. You were wise to walk the last mile. Looks like you have lost some weight!

From Camille on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 13:14:37

Thanks April. I try to think positive. I mean, I get to spend time with Melanie, and that is good. But then I wonder how I'm goign to be able to provide for her. It's a catch 22. In the meanwhile, there will definitely be trips to the park... and anything else the is free but gets us out of the house. LOL

I have lost weight. Thanks :o) It's surreal to think I'm in the teens. Before I got pregnant, I weighed 140+. Also very depressing. I had her in Dec 2007, and couldn't get even back down to 140 until I started running in July. Isn't running the greatest?

Camille;

Mike and I went to college with two kids. If you want any tips on how to be broke and happy, I'm here for you! I'm sorry to hear about the job, but those things work out. Have faith!

Also, be careful not to hurt yourself again. You are turning into quite the speedy little runner. We're going to have to rename you "Red Rocket!" :)

From Eric Day on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 12:41:54

Camille, sorry to hear you got laid off in these hard times. Hope you find something soon and even better! What area of Engineering are you in?

Take care and take it easy!

From seeaprilrun on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 12:49:09

Camille--a year ago my husband changed jobs and our financial situation changed dramatically. There is this great website--www.hillbillyhousewife.com--it has a lot of good information, and emergency menues to feed a family on $40 a week or so. I have learned a lot from it. I got a raise and we are doing better, but I still penny pinch where I can so that we have money for fun things like an occasional movie or dinner out, and to pursue our hobbies! Enjoy your time with Melanie and I hope something comes along soon!

From Camille on Sun, Jan 25, 2009 at 15:26:32

Rachel - I definitely want tips and being broke and happy... actually, I need advice and tips on a few things. I will probably email you! :o)

Eric - Thanks. I'm a civil engineer (in training).

April - thank you for the website. I will check it out! I'm trying to teach Brandon (my husband) that money doesn't grow on trees. I've always been the savings account... and he has always been the checking account in our relationship. :o)

Okay... if the running blog had titles for each post like my personal blog does, I would entitle this post: I will be Alright!

I've had some time to think about things over the last few days and I have decided that this lay off is a blessing of sorts.  Is it a blessing not to have an income, no?  But, it has definitely been a blessing to spend some quality time with my daughter.  I got to be home the day she decided she wanted to just walk all over, no more crawling for her.  I would have missed that if I were on work on Wednesday.  I have been able to spend a little time with some long lost friends and take Melanie to the park.  And my house... well the front two rooms are the cleanest they have been in YEARS!  I have more organizing and work to do, but I feel at peace when I sit in my living room.  (Here's two pictures for you)

But even better than that...  I feel excited about the change that this may bring.  I'm excited that I may be able to learn something new, and even start over somewhere else.  Yes, I may get my job back at Atwell... but there are no guarantees.  I have been there for 7 years, and for the last year I have been worried about my job and stressed out.  That stress is now gone.  I'm not living each day wondering about the next and if I will GET laid off.  That horrible burden has been lifted.  Sure, I don't exactly HAVE a job yet... but I have faith that it will work out.  I know that this new obstical will bring about hard things, but it will also bring about good things and eventually make us a little wiser, a little stronger, and a little closer together.

Okay... I'm done. :o)

So eloquently written Camille! Your living room looks lovely...but what on earth is that thing hanging over the couch on the wall? A nest? Abstract art? :)It's hard to see in the picture. heehee glad Melanie did lots of walking and you were there for it! Keep up that attitude and you will be fine!

It's a funky candle holder thing that my mother gave me for Christmas a few years back. Brandon's parents are giving us a large black and white picture some time this year for Christmas (they told us on Christmas) and it will go there when we get it. I have had many things over my couch in the 5 years I've owned this house.

Burt, just buy her breakfast!!! When I get there in a month, I will buy you both breakfast! (Well, Scott will. I do not have a job!)

I wanted to do a test run for the 10K race I'm participating in on Saturday (London's Run).  I have never done a 10 K race before, so if anyone has some pointers for me, I'd really appreciate them.  Today I ran to MCC Red Mountain, then around the dirt trail twice and then home.  It was exactly 10K.  (What great luck)... and I think with the dirt trail, it was a reasonable practice for Saturday.  I did it in 56'28".

Okay guys/gals...  give me some pointers for Saturday.  :o)  How do you approach a 10K?

I have never run a 10k either! I am doing one on feb 15th so I can't wait to here the pointers you get from the experienced folks! Nice time on your practice run. You are going to do great!

From Burt on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 15:44:33

My advice is start out in a dead sprint, see how long you can maintain it, then try to run even faster.

From Kelli on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 16:44:08

I have only run one and I had Scott by my side telling me to go faster and keep up the pace. Plus, I was trying to catch Jon the entire way. A 10k is a hard race!! What other distances have you done? I would go to http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/mcmillanrunningcalculator.htm and enter one of your races and see what pace it gives you for a 10k. Then try to stick with that!

I plugged in a 27 minute 5k (kind of the avg of your three 5k's) and it says your 10k should be at a 9:01 pace. BUT, you know better what 5k pace you are capable, so go check that site out!

GOOD LUCK!

From Darren232323 on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 19:00:25

Great that you're trying a 10km race! My advice to you would be to treat it as a 5km tempo run and a 5 km race. Don't let your heart rate get up too high in the 5km- try to keep your time at around 28-29 minutes. Then increase your pace for the next 5 km and try to hold it or push harder as you get to the 7-8km mark if your feeling ok. Totally empty the gas tank on the last km to the finish.

The great thing about it being the first time at this distance is it will be a guarenteed PB! Good luck and thanks for the greeting on my blog page!

From Eric Day on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 19:51:20

Camille, out of my short experience, this is what I can suggest: if your normal training pace is 9:00 min/mile then in the race start at 8:40 min/mile and hold for 9kms, then put up the pace as much as you can for the rest. Be careful not to start too fast, then you run out of gas...

From Camille on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 19:53:13

April - oh, I'll keep an eye on your February race! Good luck in advance.

Kelli - thank you for the website. That's awesome.

Burt - I'm not much of a sprinter, but I'll keep that in mind.

Darren - I love that advice... (I think you won the award for advice I'm going to follow). (Sorry Burt)... Thank you!

I can't wait for Saturday.

From Camille on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 19:55:53

Eric - That's great advice too. Thank you! :o) Starting too fast is a fear of mine because I do hit a wall if I'm not careful. I don't want to do that.

I hear they will have food near the finish line, so I'm thinking the smell of yummy food might bring me in. :o)

From Kelli on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 19:59:30

Ah, man!!!! I tried!!!!

Actually, though, that is a great site for training and such, so keep it bookmarked. Walter told me about it and i used it for marathon training! It is not a science, though, as it says I should be able to do a 5k in 22 minutes----IN MY DREAMS!!!!!

Great advice Darren and Eric. I concur.

From Camille on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 20:03:51

Kelli - you know that your are a rock star! I didn't mean to put down your advice... infact, I thought I hadn't... just Burt (LOL)... but since I know him personally, and will be hosting breakfast at my house next weekend, I thought it was okay. He is going to kick my tail at the race on Saturday anyhow. :o)

And you *know* you could run a 22 min 5K. :o)

From Eric Day on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 20:04:28

Kelli, 5k in 22 minutes, sure you can. You can run 10k in 47min, so why not?

And run a 1/2 or full marathon, man I wish!

From Kelli on Fri, Jan 30, 2009 at 11:12:57

Camille---I was TOTALLY kidding!!! I forget people cannot hear my sarcasm over the internet!! I know nothing about running, really, so I did not even give advice, just a time to shot for!! Sorry I scared you there Camille!

AND, for the record, I am just more of an endurance runner. I run a really slow first half in both half and full marathons, then my speed kicks in to give e great negative splits. So, 5k's and 10k's are like that slow first half for me. I did run a 47 minute 10k, but my husband paced me and he is a NAZI when it comes to speed!!! It was so not fun and I wanted to puke the entire time and keel over and die when it was over. So, a 22 minute 5k is only in my future when I am an old woman in a wheelchair going down a hill!

Running MilesSwimming YardsBike Miles
6.200.000.00

Well, I'm really excited that I took part in this year's London's Run. This was the fourth annual London's Run.

"The first London’s Run was a benefit event for London’s family in 2006 made possible by the caring support of the Queen Creek residents. London Solomon was a courageous six year old girl who fought a brave and cheerful fight against an aggressive type of leukemia (AML). Her grace still inspires all of us to take advantage of each new day without fear of doing hard things and cherishing our relationships with each other." (directly from the website).  This year's London's Run entry and donations went to another family who has been impacted by cancer.  "Lorin Merkley, 18 was diagnosed with an unidentified form of Sarcoma in August. His treatment at Phoenix Children's Hospital was intense and aggressive. The cancer was not friendly to Lorin, but he kept a hopeful heart throughout his sufferings. The cancer continued to grow inspite of treatment and took Lorin's life in November."  They had a little table set up for each of them in honor of their memories.  I have never met either of them, but for some reason, seeing their tables made me tear up.

Okay... Here is the unofficial report (because I don't know my official time or rank).

The 10K race started at 8:10am (10 mins after the half marathon).  I got up toward the front and when the count down hit zero, I started real strong.  I passed a bunch of people and followed a bunch of young boys (really young boys).  I felt really good.

After about 2K or so, I felt someone touch my back.  It was Burt.  We ran next to eachother for a while.  I was listening to my music while running next to him, and all the sudden I hear Burt say "Are you doing okay?"  I wonder if I sounded like I was dying.  Burt then went ahead (He was on a mission to finish in under 50 minute, and I was on a mission to finish....)  You should read he blog too.  He was a total rockstar!

Okay, so at this point, I decide to push the button on my ipod/nike plus to have it tell me how far I've gone and my pace...  and apparently the sensor was not having a good day because it said I had only gone .67K and I knew I was further than that because I had long passed the 1 mile sign.  Such a bummer.  So, from then on, I just paid attention to the time, not the pace or distance.

All along the race they had pictures and signs encouraging you to go on.  I swear, I must be super emotional today, because each one made me tear up.  Perhaps if I wasn't so emotional, I would have been able to shave some time off my finish. LOL.  (Okay, so i've been teary eyed and emotional all morning...  the cartoon Phineas and Ferb had me crying this morning... pathetic).  Okay, back on topic.

At the half way-ish point, I started getting passed by a bunch of people (mostly men).  I guess everyone had turned on their mo-jo.  Too bad I don't keep too much mo-jo handy.  I need to get some of that stuff.

Right before mile 4, they make you do a u-turn and we run passed where we had just run.  Well, Burt was ahead of me, so we crossed paths.  We gave eachother a big high-five.  He was doing awesome!  When I got to mile 4, I had run for 32 minutes.  No too shabby.

At the 5 mile marker, some 80+ man passed me.  So depressing.  I tell ya though, when I'm his age, I hope I'm in that good of shape.

I then started passing people again (thank goodness).  At 5.5-ish miles, and bunch of woman that looked like they were my age passed me.  Very Very depressing...

I turned the last corner and kicked it into gear.  I heard someone scream "Way to finish strong"  That felt good.  The last time I looked at the clock, it was under 52 minutes.  My husband didn't expect me so soon, so I only got 2 pictures.  The second picture shows the clock at 52:05 so until I see the official results, I'm going with that.

It took FOREVER for them to get results, which weren't actually posted... but there was an award ceremony.  I'm pretty sure they weren't 100% correct with the results... Actually, I'm not ever sure they were 80% correct, but they were fun to listen to.  When they got to my age group, they said "Third place... Camille.....  (long space, I'm all excited), Pickasomthing rather".  Dang!  The girl they called for second place was super fast.  I remember her passing me, and considering how tall she was, I'm pretty sure I had to take twice as many steps as she did.  I then decided to wait and see if Burt metaled.  Nope...  not for this age division.  Brandon and I decide to get going because Melanie was crazy tired.  As we walk away, we hear them calling off the female for the same age division as Burt.  They call the 2nd and 3rd place and then I hear "This can't be right. For 1st it's Burton McCumber. Please tell me that I prenounced your name currectly".  How funny is that.  I know there were some mistakes with the awards, so I'm waiting for the official times.  When they post them, I'll add to my report.

Here's Burt and I after the race:

**********Updated now with "offical" results***********

They finally posted them.  I'm pretty bad and have been checking every 5 or 10 minutes.  I even emailed the Arizona running events company and asked them when they were going to post the results after seeing that results from a race today had been posted.  Okay...  according to their clock, I completed the race in 51:59 :o).  I was 71/483 and 6/81 in my age group.  I'm so excited! :o)

Burt was 46/483, 6/35 in his age and completed the race in 50:03.  Way to go Burt!  You totally rock!

Great race, Camille! I love London's run, and don't feel bad about being tender-hearted. I teared up just reading your description of the event, much less actually being there in the flesh.

Don't ya just LOVE getting passed by really old people? It's tough on the ego, but it always inspires me too. I want to grow up to be like HIM or HER! Remember that way old lady that passed me at the finish line at the Moon Valley Race? Too funny.

Well, you look like you are still in great shape and fabulous as always! Glad to see it, though I never doubted you.

From Burt on Sat, Jan 31, 2009 at 15:57:05

I was going to say the same thing! The pause after he said Camillie seemed like an eternity. In fact, we started cheering. Then it was like, "Oh. Okay."

Did you see that picture of London right near the half way point? That's what almost got me. It's like, "Come on, man! Don't do that to me!"

From Burt on Sat, Jan 31, 2009 at 15:57:29

Oh, and I know I already told you, but great job!

From Camille on Sat, Jan 31, 2009 at 16:03:13

Lybi - you are too sweet. Yes... that old lady that passed you at Moon Valley never passed me... she was ALWAYS ahead of me. I got passed by some really old guy on that 1/2 marathon while Bethany was on a pit stop and I swear he was goign to have a heart attack. I just knew we'd catch him, but we never did. He was awesome.

Burt - I DID see the picture. It totally made me tear up. Come on. But really, the really bad one that made me loose it was the sign at mile 1-ish that said "Way To Go Mom". (Okay, I'm tearing up again). I don't know who put that up, and which mom they were talking about, but for some reason, all I could think about was Melanie and somehow that sign was for me.

Great job Camille! It sounds like an awfully emotional race. I would have surely had tears swimming in my eyes!

From Darren232323 on Sun, Feb 01, 2009 at 14:02:11

Great race! Looks like your pacing was very even if you were able to finish strong. Couple of questions fornyou:

Where is this race? Everyone is in t-shirts and looks like its in a desert. (I live in Windsor Ontario Canada and it has been -10 to -20 celcius here for most of Janaury with lots of snow....feeling jea;ous ;)

What time did you hit the 1/2 way point? Curious if you did a negative split. Also, did they have chip timing? You could have been below 52 minutes.

From Camille on Sun, Feb 01, 2009 at 14:39:53

Marion - Thanks!

Eric - Is it too late to say I'm tired now? LOL I wasn't exhausted at the time, but a few hours later, I was out! :o)

April - It *was* emotional. I can't wait for your race in 2 weeks. :o)

Darren - 1. The race was in Queen Creek Arizona. It was 38 degrees before the race started. The first two miles, I felt like my fingers were going to freeze off, but after the race I think it got up to 74 degrees (farenheit). (Hence the desert in the background of the pictures).

2. I don't know what time I hit the half way point. I really wish I did because I would also love to know if I had a negative split. Dang Nike+ thing wasn't working correctly and there wasn't a half way sign (nor a 3 mile sign). It wasn't until I hit the 4 mile sign that I had realized I was past the half way point. There wasn't a chip either. I'm sure that if my time was 52 minutes that I was actually under 52 because it took me a little bit to get past the starting line. I have to wait and see what my "offical" time was though. (They still haven't posted it).

2 miles right after dinner.... note to self, don't run right after having dinner. LOL

Yesterday I spent a huge chunk of the day cleaning the "forgotten" room in our house.  It's the room that somehow gets all the "stuff" dumped into it.  I took before and after pictures so that if my hubby didn't notice that I had cleaned it, I could prove it. :o)  Here you go.  (and yes, that disgusting room has been like that for a long time...  you can jugde me).

And after...

I think that should count as some physical activity.  Oh, and my husband did notice all on his own. :o)

Very nice! I have a room like that in my house--I don't even go in there! You have inspired me so perhaps this weekend I will find the motivation to clean it...

Getting it ready for this weekend, eh?

From Kelli on Tue, Feb 03, 2009 at 15:59:08

Yes, never run after dinner. Or, for me, within 4 hours of eating anything!!

Okay, now you are a cleaning fool!!! I could not have accomplished that in one day. I have a storage room, and I keep saying I will clean it, but I don't want to! I hate work. I like sitting on the computer eating popcorn better. But you have inspired me (not that I will do it, but you have still inspired me!)

How is the job hunting going?

From Camille on Tue, Feb 03, 2009 at 21:54:47

April - Thanks... I hated going into that room before yesterday. Infact, my allergies were always SCREAMING if I went in there. It's much better now.

Burt - I'm hosting you all in my back yard... you'll never see that room. Okay... maybe I'll let everyone into my house, if you all fit.

Kelli - I figured if I cleaned my house good enough, I might be able to find a job hiding somewhere under all the junk. LOL

From Camille on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 21:17:45

Darren - The recovery wasn't too bad. I slept a lot on Saturday. So far I have had to take this week easy because I haven't had time to run, but it is okay because I am worried that I'm going to re-injure my pelvis before the Ragnar, and that would be aweful.

6.5 ? miles this morning with my Ragnar Team.  It was awesome.  Everyone met up at my house at 5am and headed down to the bottom of the hill to run back to my house.  Because of my fractured pelvis (back in November), I decided to shorten my distance a little bit to avoid further injury.  My friend, Bethany, and I started at the 3.5-ish mile and ran with Burt the rest of the way to my house.  It was a real nice morning.  After the run we had breakfast, and then everyone went on to their daily activities.  I'm thinking my daily activity today will be to rest...  if that's possible with 10 14-15 year olds in my back yard making knives (scouts are fun!).

Nope, but very weird... when I got home from work today (yep, you read that right... I got a job and started today)... I noticed there is a jacket hanging in our palm tree out front. It doesn't belong to Brandon or me, so I'm assuming it belongs to one of the boys.

This group of boys didn't have a very good attention span for the knives (unlike the last group of boys Brandon had). So they ended up playing wiffle ball in our front yard, which I'm certian drove my neighbor crazy.

From Kelli on Mon, Feb 09, 2009 at 18:54:07

I GOT A JOB!!!

Today I started a new job at a small local transportation engineering firm.  I got the job by calling up the owner when I was laid off.  See, we worked on a major project together (but different aspects).  I remembered enjoying all the guys from the company, and also all the positive feed back I had got from them.  I'm able to work the exact schedule I worked at Atwell (Monday - Thursday, 7-2:30, Fridays off)... and I get a few extra holidays.  I will miss Burt though, because today the office was SO quiet.

I'm so grateful I was able to find a good job as quickly and painless as I did.

I'll post more when Brandon gets home and I can go run.

*****************************************

I ran 4.41 miles in the rain with some serious headwind.  It was rough... but felt great!  My right knee is a bit upset.

I had to add this...  I think Burt will appreciate it.  If anyone looks at these pictures and wonder what the heck... send me a personal message.  In the meanwhile, Burt... Enjoy!!!

Sorry about your knee--where does it hurt?

From Camille on Tue, Feb 10, 2009 at 23:06:04

April - It's my right knee, and it hurts on the outside all the way along my knee cap (from bottom to top).

From seeaprilrun on Tue, Feb 10, 2009 at 23:17:11

I had almost the exact same pain not too long ago. I looked up "IT band" stretches on the advice of some bloggers. The stretches helped a little and the knee pain just sort of went away after only a week or so. It just popped up out of nowhere like your knee pain did. Hopefully it is one of those things that comes suddenly and goes just as suddenly! I did take a lot of motrin for it.

From Teena on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 00:20:01

Camille,

Don't run if you are in a lot of pain! That's my only advice!!

Take care of yourself ... ice and stretch!

From Teena on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 15:11:20

How are you feeling today Miss Camille? I hope the knee is feeling much much better. (dont' forget to ice)

From Camille on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 15:13:46

Okay... so the pain decreased a lot before I went to bed. It still hurts IF I haven't used it for a while (like it gets "rusty"). For instance, if I'm sitting at my desk for a long time and get up to get a drink... pain! But if I'm walking alot, nothing. Any ideas?

I'm bad and haven't iced yet. Will do when I get home.

From Teena on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 17:12:53

I seriously would ice it at least 3 times a day. Hopefully you just have a little inflammation that the ice will take care of.

Be super careful though. Seriously.

What's the update Miss Camille? How are you feeling?

From Darren232323 on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 23:37:31

I ran through some knee pain a few years back and it resulted in months off of running- its defintely not something you want to mess with. The advice of motrin, ice and IT band stretching is good for short term. If it persists past a week or so then see a massage therapist or chiropractor to have a look at it- you may need some active release to get everything loosened up enough to start healing properly. If there's still problems after that then you may have to get orthotics if there is over-pronation to your stride, or include a regular trip to the massage therapist/chiropractor as part of your regular training.

Try some light cross training while your knee heals only if there is no tightness or discomfort. Like you were reading in my blog last week when I had some knee problems- take it really easy for at least a week until that feeling is gone. Better a week off in the short term than much longer in the future.

From montelepsy on Fri, Feb 13, 2009 at 02:36:34

My advice is learn to tie your shoes :)

From Camille on Fri, Feb 13, 2009 at 11:02:30

That really stinks that you don't feel well ... I am so sorry.

Take care of yourself ... you'll be feelings GREAT way before Ragnars (keep telling your body that).

Glad you are feeling somewhat better, it can only go up, right?

What runner number are you at Ragnar again? I am now 7.

From Camille on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 15:51:46

I'm number 8. So you switched with Walter's wife? What number is she now?

Yeah... the Ipod thing is really ticking me off. It NEEDS to work by next Friday! :o)

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 15:54:56

No, Walter's wife is now 10. We went with what Burt told us about difficulty level, and I took what was left. Some wanted easy, some wanted hard, I did not care. BUT, I was looking at it and mine appears to be super easy, so I hope it is! Nothing like being all nonchalant about it and then getting the easiest run!

From Camille on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 16:00:03

LOL Yep.. that's the best way to go. they have change the course so many times, you almost don't know what to expect until the day of!

Camille,

You can unfreeze your ipod (nano) by switching your hold switch on then off and holding down menu and select until the apple appears on your screen. Or you can throw it on the ground and scream at it like I do.

Race: Del Sol Ragnar Relay (204 Miles) 29:00:00
Running MilesSwimming YardsBike Miles
16.400.000.00

Run! Drive! Sleep? Repeat!

Yesterday and today, I participated in the Del Sol Ragnar Relay Race.  This is a 204 mile relay race, starting in Prescott, ending in Mesa, with teams of 12 people in 2 vans.  My team was the Dessert Runners, and I was runner number 10, putting me in van number 2.  My other van mates included: Christian, Bethany, Glenn, Burt, and James W. Below is a picture of the members of our van before we drove up to Prescott (minus Christian, who we picked up at exchange 14).

We made it to the first major exchange point (where van 1 stops running, and van 2 begins), decorated our van, and got all ready for the adventure ahead of us.  While at this exchange, we met Kelli, Scott, Walter, and Misty.  It was Kelli's birthday, and I was a loser and had forgot her birthday cake...  but that's a different story.  Regardless, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KELLI.  Okay, back to my race report... Below is a picture of our van.

As I said before, I was runner 10, which is the 4th runner in our van.  My first leg was 7 miles on a hilly dirt road.  I rocked my first leg, running in an average of 8:48 min/mil.  I felt awesome.  The one nasty part of the run was the fact that it was on a dirt road, and when all the vans passed by, they kicked up dust like crazy.  It is really hard to run when you can't breathe.  Regardless, I finished the 7 miles in less than an hour and was super happy about it.  I did inherit 2 blisters, and at the end of my leg, my knee started bothering me.  Below are two pictures from my first leg.  I'm excited to say I passed 2 people on this leg...  :o)

My 2nd leg was 6.2 miles, starting at 4 in the morning.  Brandon was awesome and met me at the beginning of the leg to pace me.  At this point, I had not slept a wink, and was so tired and tight.  I really appreciated his company.  With the fatigue, knee, and head wind, I averaged a 9:49 min/mil... not my best time, but I was pretty happy with it.  Brandon and I passed 4 people.  He was so funny.  He'd point out someone ahead and say "See that person...  We're going to pass him.  You are much faster than him and much stronger".  After we had passed 3 people, he said "3 down, 1 more to go".  Sure enough, he was right.  I passed all 4. :o)  I love him.

My 3rd and final leg was 3.1 miles at 1:30 pm.  It was HOT.  I think HOT was an understatement. And, I think I had screwed up the day before and didn't drink enough water.  I'm pretty sure I was (and may still am) slightly dehydrated.  I was in pain... and I am not too ashamed to say, I didn't make the time I was hoping to make; however, I am happy that I finished. :o)

I am not sure I'll be walking right for a while.  My knee is killing and I can feel all the muscles in my legs.  Apparently running 16.4 miles works all your leg muscles, not just your favorite ones. :o)  But, there is something awesome about finishing a race like this.  It makes you feel like a super hero, if only for just a minute.  While I was running... my daughter learned a new word.  Until now, she had 2 definite words in her vocabulary "Da-ee" (daddy), and "Ti-ti" (Monkey).  But, when I crossed my last exchange point, she cried "ma-be" and reached for me.  I have been wanting her to say mommy for forever... I'm also not ashamed to say that it made me cry, if only for a min.

Below is a picture of the team momments after crossing the finish line.  As you can see, all the people from van 1 are cleaned up and in their normal clothing.  I promise they didn't run in those outfits.

PS. I don't know our race result time yet... when I do, I'll update the report

Thanks guys! It's funny... today, out of all my aches and pains, my knee is a minor problem. LOL. Anyhow, I'll definitely be stretching and iching. Kelli and James W. taught me some really good stretches for my IT-Band Friday night. It was probably what made it possible for me to run my second leg. They are so wonderful!

I have to ditto the scary night running, I am glad your husband came and ran with you. And I am even more glad to hear that your knee at least cooperated so you could run and that you were PASSING people!!!

You are the darn cutest little thing!!! I was so happy we were able to find you not once but TWICE!!! I was getting really bored sitting in the car on that 2nd leg, so I was happy to see you guys and chat for a bit!

YOU are AWESOME!!! Keep stretching that IT band and beat it into submission! Dang things, why do we need them anyway?

From Camille on Sun, Mar 01, 2009 at 21:07:19 from 71.223.90.219

April - Thanks. It was tough, but it was fun!

Kelli - blush! Thanks. You are so awesome. I'm so happy I met you. You are so awesome! And finding you twice, that was even better. Too bad we didn't finish sooner so we could have met up at the end. I'm pretty sure that was my fault because everyone else on my team was awesome... and I was the slow one. (make that the VERY slow one!) Thanks for teaching me that stretch. It's my new best friend.

From Kelli on Sun, Mar 01, 2009 at 21:18:46 from 151.118.168.163

We missed you guys by well over an hour, so I KNOW it was not your fault! You guys started an hour and a half before us, that was the problem! Let's blame it on Walter and Burt, I am sure it is there fault somehow!

I forgot to say that I loved your daughter's third word and its perfect timing!! That was GREAT!

From Camille on Sun, Mar 01, 2009 at 21:22:41 from 71.223.90.219

What time did you guys start? How do you know your time at the end? Is there a way to check that on the Ragnar website (because I have yet to be able to find it). I think it's lame that we started at different times. We weren't faster than you guys for sure, so why did we start later? But I do blame myself. Van 1 put us ahead of our estimated schedule... But we ended right "on time".

You were 59th overall and your finish time was 28:53:55. You guys only finished about 14 minutes behind is in actuality!!! Too bad we dod not start at the same time becausew then we could have run together the entire time and had a PARTY!

We had one guy in our van that consistently got us ten minutes behind on each of his runs, and we still love him. It is all good!!!!

So, at work today, I got to take a field trip to ADOT to get Asbuilts... but the cool thing was that Rich (my co-worker) took me in his Miati, through down town Phoenix, with the top down.  I felt like I was on vacation... or a movie star.  It was AWESOME!

Race: Ostrich Festival (3.1 Miles) 00:25:21, Place overall: 59, Place in age division: 4
Running MilesSwimming YardsBike Miles
3.100.000.00

Hello!  I am excited to announce that I not only was able to race today (after a long last weekend), but I was able to beat my expectations.

At the starting line, I positioned myself right up front, and the only people in front of me was these two 10 year old girls.  I thought I'd be tripping on them when they tired out, but nope, they totally kicked my tail!  I think they beat me by atleast a minute.  I wanted to cheer them on when I saw them at the end (there was a spot where the course turns and over laps itself) but I didn't know if that would come off as creepy.

At the end, I was following a woman and a man.  I decided to kick it and gained on both of them.  They did not appreciate this to much and it turned into a sprint to the finish.  I'm super excited to annouce that I beat both of them to the finish line (but not by much, obviously).  I had been following the woman majority of the race and had mentally decided that I was going to pass her...  I'm so happy that I did!  Personal victory.

Brandon says there were only about 8 woman that finished before me, so I may have place, but we had a busy day play, and didn't stay for the awards ceremony.  I'll have to wait and see what the results show.

Well... I was 4th in my age group.  Close, but not close enough.  Apparently the ages were grouped in 10's not 5's.  O-well...  :o)  I'm still excited!

About the people I "raced to the finish" with.  I beat the woman by .9 of a second and the man by 1.4 seconds.  That's awesome.  The woman was apparently in my age group... so that's awesome.

LOL.  but I have absolutely NO energy.  I've had people tell me it could be my diet, but that really hasn't changed, or maybe it's depression, but I argue that I'm a girl, and therefore, significantly emotional, yet have a problem handling it.  Do I get enough sleep?  come on.  Show me a mom that says she gets enough sleep, and I'll show you a pathelogical lier.  So...  I may be taking up my bike for a while to build up endurance again, but it's definitely lacking.  In the meanwhile... Well... I have come to the conclusion that something *must* be up. And no, I'm not pregnant! LOL. but I have absolutely NO energy. I've had people tell me it could be my diet, but that really hasn't changed, or maybe it's depression, but I argue that I'm a girl, and therefore, significantly emotional, but I yet to have a problem handling it. Do I get enough sleep? come on. Show me a mom that says she gets enough sleep, and I'll show you a pathelogical lier. So... I may be taking up my bike for a while to build up endurance again, but it's definitely lacking. In the meanwhile... I have been enjoying my baby girl:

2.1 miles at a much better pace, pushing my little Melanie in her running stroller.  I decided that I needed to ease back into my routine, so I didn't push the distance too much.  Plus, it was freaking hot out (or at least I seemed super hot), do I didn't want to bake Melanie alive.

Then, after I put Melanie to bed, I did 1 hr of yoga.  :o)

So, I decided to take Melanie on a run this morning. I got her up (she was already awake and singing to herself and the monkey in her crib), and put her, the monkey, a blanket and a sippy cup of milk. So, we are doing great, the first 2.5 miles. She is giggling and playing peek a boo through the plastic "window" on the stroller with me. I decide that we will go a little longer and turn right instead of left. Another .5 mile and I realize that my decision was a big mistake. I'm running down the road and all the sudden her sippy cup goes flying out of the stroller. I stop, get it, give it to her, and resume running. Then... out it goes again. This time I pick it up and put it in the underneath bag and then return to my run. Next thing I know, her monkey goes over the egde. This time I decide I'm not playing this game, and I put it under the stroller with the sippy cup. This is a bad idea because when I started running again she start SCREAMING. So here I am, running down the road with a screaming toddler who is kicking her feet and throwing a huge fit, all while hanging herself as much as she can over the side of the stroller and pointing back. It dawns on me that she probably thinks I left Curious George behind, so I stop and give her the monkey... then she throws the monkey and her blanket at me, screaming. great! So everything goes under the stroller and I try to find the fastest way home. ugh! When I get her home and give her the monkey, so giggles, and runs inside to play like nothing happened.

You have to love toddlers. (Otherwise you'd donate them to Goodwill. LOL).

ps. I did an hour of yoga while Melanie was napping and my cakes were baking.

I talked to a really good friend of mine on Saturday.  She really hasn't run since highschool, expect with me for a few weeks before I found out I was pregnant.  When I start running in July, she announced that she was pregnant (with her 5th) and wouldn't be able to run with me until after she had the baby.  Well...  she is 3 months post pardon and ready to hit the pavement.  We got up before the sun and ran through our neighborhood.  I'm quite proud of her.  She did 1.25 miles in 13 min, then we walked home.  She could have gone longer, but her leg was bothering her.  She has a goal of running in a half marathon, but first, some 5Ks.  I'm excited to help her with her goal. :o)

Personally... I have this aweful pain in my hip.  I'm guessing it's from carrying my daughter for the 2+ hours we were out on Saturday.  If I had known I'd be doing that much walking around, I would have brought the stroller.  O-well.  I may or may not run tonight.  If I don't, I'm planning on doing yoga.  Maybe I can stretch out my hip.

Here's some food for thought:

When in April is the race, and how have you been feeling lately (you posted hip pain a few days ago, is that better?) If it's at the end of April I think you have enough time, but be careful, you don't want to get injured! If it's a race that doesn't fill up in advance, maybe you can start training and sign up at the last minute depending on how you feel?

It's April 18th, and they also have a 10 K event. I think I'm going to wait until last min (like you said) and play it by ear. I want to do another 1/2 before I get pregnant... and since I'm hoping that will be sooner rather than later, I'm looking at the schedule and seeing if there are any coming up. Maybe I shouldn't push it though. I have slowed my miles down quite a bit lately, which I think is because of my new job. I work SO far away from where I live that I'm in my car for 1.5 hours a day. Yoga! I did an hour of Yoga, and loved it! Yoga really does stretch everything so nicely, doesn't it? I'm going to run after my hubby gets home tonight. I'd run sooner than that and take Melanie, but she got her 15 month shots today and hasn't been very happy with the world. I'm thinking it may be nap time here soon!

4.75 miles tonight while Brandon and Melanie went to get dinner.  It turns out that I could have gone for on hour...  When I got home from my run, I was locked out.  It wasn't but another 15-20 min. before Brandon and Melanie returned to let me in.  I guess the restraunt Brandon wanted to surprise me with dinner from is now closed and he had to improvise.  He did pretty well.  Dinner was yummy!

Okay...  I had to do some Yoga tonight.  HAD TO!  I'm freakin' stiff and sore from yesterday's yoga experience.  I did 40 minutes of yoga stretching and feel a little more relaxed and loose.  (did that sentence make sence to you?).  Anyhow, while bent in half, my right side of my face started to tingle.  It was a weird sensation.  At first, it felt like I was going to have a bloody nose (if you know what I mean), but then it spread to the whole right half of my face.  I paused the tape, stood up and tried to will the numbness away.  Anyhow, if any of you yoga-ers or medical people are reading this... is that normal?  Have you had that happen to you before?  It's gone now, but it was really weird.

Okay, off to bed!

I forgot to set my alarm this morning (though I did get up before 5 and am on time for work).  Needless to say, I'll have to do my running tonight instead of this morning.  Not that big of a deal.

But, my exciting news... I registered for my half.  It's a different half marathon then I had originally planned.  Instead of running on April 18th, I'll be running on May 2nd.  Brandon and I had been looking at the calendar and realized that I wouldn't have any time to recover from my wisdom teeth being pulled (this Thursday) before the race.  If something were to go wrong with my recovery, I'd be in a bad place.  This is much better!  I'm stoked!  It will probably be my last race of the season... we shall see.

******************************************************************

After work, I took Melanie on a 1.5 mile walk while I delivered some things to a few of the scouts in our ward.  Melanie wasn't feeling too good after her shots and I thought the fresh air would do her good.  She was pretty happy... but it may have been the fact that she was eating a yummy granola bar.

Then, after dinner and Melanie was put down, I went out for an 8 miler.  It was really nice out!  I really enjoyed myself.  I didn't have to stop at a stop light until I was at mile 5 and then not again until mile 7.  I was lucky, because I did pass several street lights, but it just so happened that they were green when I approached them (sweet!)

I hope everyone is having a good monday!

Kelli - It's called Shiprock Marathon and Half Marathon. I think, if I were in better shape, it would be a good marathon to do... but, I'm not exactly marathon material right now. They only allow 150 marathon runners and 300 half marathon runners, which really appealed to my agoraphia. The Marathon starts at the New Mexico/arizona border and then the half marathoners pick up literally at the marathoner's half way point, at an hour after they started. I'm sure I'll get passed by some speedy marathon runner by time it's all complete. :o( In fact, I'm sure you'd pass me if you were participating. We are staying in Farmington, NM.

Agoraphia? Do you mean agraphia : a cerebral disorder characterized by total or partial inability to write? Because that totally is you, but just doesn't quite fit the context...

From Camille on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 21:01:50 from 71.223.66.14

Agoraphobia (from Greek aγορά, "marketplace"; and φόβος/φοβία, -phobia) is an anxiety disorder, often precipitated by the fear of having a panic attack in a setting from which there is no easy means of escape. As a result, sufferers of agoraphobia may avoid public and/or unfamiliar places. In severe cases, the sufferer may become confined to his or her home, experiencing difficulty traveling from this "safe place."

4 am is dedication! Do you get the creeps running that early in the am? I know I do but maybe I am just a chicken.

From Camille on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 12:22:52 from 75.171.106.195

Normally I do, but this morning I did. Something just didn't seem right.

From seeaprilrun on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 12:33:07 from 68.102.144.140

Good idea to follow your gut! I am always running like a scared rabbit when it is that early--flashlight in one hand and mace ready to go in the other hand. Every little rustle of a bush sets my heart fluttering. The fear makes me run like a deer though-my fastest paces are in those early early runs!

From Kelli on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 14:51:32 from 71.219.100.181

So you wake up at O dark thirty once and you call it quits?

From Camille on Mon, Apr 06, 2009 at 13:44:09 from 75.171.10.233

LOL. No... I had my wisdom teeth pulled on Thursday and apparently am highly allergic to the antibodic that they gave me. I thought it was a flu until it got drastically worse. I promise to be dedicated again... just give me a few days.

From Kelli on Mon, Apr 06, 2009 at 18:14:23 from 71.219.95.20

How ya feelin' today? And is the flu out of the house?

From Camille on Mon, Apr 06, 2009 at 19:47:45 from 71.223.66.14

What I thought was the flu, wasn't the flu for me... it was a reaction to my medication. I lost 8 pounds yesterday from being sick... and then it dawned on Brandon to check my medication. Sure enough, all my symptoms were listed as on the "stop taking this medication if these happen" list. It also listed Keflex on the "don't take this medication if you are allergic to these medicines list" and I'm allergic to Keflex, so that should have been a sign. Brandon and Melanie are all better. Melanie had a bad cold and Brandon thinks he had food poisoning. It went away really fast. Teaches him, eating taquitos from the Quicky Mart! I thought he was smarter than that... LOL

I'll be fine, eventually I'll get over this nasty feeling. Now that I know what is causing it, I have stopped taking the medicine and started taking Benedryl. That should counter act all the bad vibes.

From Kelli on Mon, Apr 06, 2009 at 21:20:12 from 71.219.95.20

Ah, that is awful (although losing 8 pounds in one day would be nice, I am sure it was in no way worth it!!!)

Fell better soon. How are the "teeth?"

From montelepsy on Wed, Apr 08, 2009 at 13:06:36 from 155.85.58.253

Allergies to medications can be pretty serious, I'm glad Brandon caught it.

Feeling any better?

Running MilesSwimming YardsBike Miles

I'm back in the saddle again! :o)

And I guess you can say, I was feeling a little hard core.  The temp was 44 degrees (which is quite cold for a phoenisan like me...) with wind, and the kicker... rain. (in short sleeves)  :o)  I've been seen doing crazier things though.  When I got home, there were different parts of my body that looked like they had been sun burned because of the cold.  I've never seen anything like it before.  And considering how white my skin is (pretty white), the spots were bright red. LOL

So, the wisdom teeth thing really screwed with my health is past week.  It's been not so fun.  I'm thinking that getting back into my regular routine will help with that though.  As soon as I stopped running, I felt shooting pain in my mouth where the teeth use to be.  I can understand why they tell you to wait a week to run.  I'm glad Lybi checked.  (Lybi is the best.  Not only is she an awesome person and friend, she was so wonderful and took me to the surgery center to have my teeth removed, waited for me, saw me at my loopest and didn't post it on U-tube, brought me home, and took care of me until Brandon got off work.  People just don't get much better than that.  Lybi, if you read this... i LOVE you!)

Happy Easter Tomorrow!

Those wisdom teeth are a pain. keep eating ice cream!

You running in the cold makes me chuckle!! Because, to us Utahns, that is short and tank top weather!! (Not really, I wore long sleeves in 55 yesterday, but shorts). And then the splotchy redness---oh what a familiar thing (try a frost-bitten belly bulge)! Don't you worry, soon it will be so warm you will not know what do with yourself!

Take care of your HEALTH and good luck with the training. You are going to do great!

What are those things on the yellow plate?

From Camille on Tue, Apr 21, 2009 at 00:28:45 from 71.223.66.14

Family reunion. My mom's family is all spread out over the west part of the US, and Utah seems to be in the middle. We are camping... okay, maybe not so much Brandon and I, but some of the family members are camping. We decided lugging that much stuff across 2 states was a bit much. I can't remember the days, but I'll tell you when.

On the yellow plate it's layered coconut-chocolate chip bars. Real easy. want the recipe? Honestly, there is hardly any dirty dishes or measuring.

From Kelli on Tue, Apr 21, 2009 at 09:25:15 from 71.219.75.228

I kept your church website and i will look ALL of the recipes up. That one just looks SO GOOD!!! It is the coconut and chocolate combination.

A family reunion sounds fun. I wonder where you are camping? Park City is really quire close, i will come and crash your reunion. If your entire family cooks like you, I will stay the entire time and eat!

From Camille on Tue, Apr 21, 2009 at 10:07:30 from 75.171.1.193

Well... see, I was thinking that you might be my escape. I love my mom's family, but they aren't very nice to eachother. everyone is mean and rude and tries to put everyone else down. This is part of the reason that the reunion isn't at anyone's house. And it is definitely the reason that we haven't had a reunion in 10+ years. We have visited different family members here and there, but not got everyone together. There is actually a poll going on our family website on who will be the first one to get mad and leave. It's very sad. You don't want to come, but I may need an "easy button" to get me out of there. LOL

From Kelli on Tue, Apr 21, 2009 at 10:11:21 from 71.219.75.228

I will be your EASY BUTTON! I will come and get you and we can go shop the outlet mall in Park City and have a wonderful lunch. if it gets too bad, you can come sleep in my playroom on a blow up mattress or in the family room on the fold out bed or I can kick the boys out of their room and you can sleep in the bunk bed!

From Camille on Tue, Apr 21, 2009 at 10:27:58 from 75.171.1.193

This one is for Mike.

Tuesday I ran accross the grocery store parking lot (to get to my car asap after returning my cart.  Melanie was in there and I didn't want anything bad to happen to her (and with the heat here, that includes toasted Melanies)).  anyhow, I got hit on by the biggest red neck who made sure to tell me, between drags and looking me up, that he "liked watch'n me run" and that I was "purrrty".  Gross.

The truth is, I didn't run on Tuesday because I spent all night making goodies and bread for a good friend that is in the hospital and will be in the hospital for a few more weeks.

Wednesday I didn't run because Melanie came home from day care with a 102 degree temp.  She has been throwing up and been just miserable.  And when that happens, she wants mommy.  So, mommy laid with her and read some books...  snuggled... oh, and got throw up all over her. Lovely.  But...  I'm mom, so I wouldn't change that for anything.

From Camille on Fri, Apr 24, 2009 at 14:05:00 from 71.223.71.118

My friend is having twins. She is only 30 weeks along now, so at 28.5 weeks one of her waters broke (did you know that you have 2 waters with twins? I didn't). They babies lungs are not developed, so she is in the hospital so they can keep her pregnant as long as possible. She has gone into labor so many times there and they have been giving her medicine to stop the contractions and have to be on antibotics to reduce the chance of infection because of his water breaking so early. It's scary, for sure

Melanie and I hit the neighbor's pool after work today.  I pushed her across the pool (swimming) over and over...  She loved it, but then decided that she could swim on her own.  I took her out of her floaty and let her stand on the steps.  she drank more water than she wanted... but I think it was a good experience for her.  And it was a really good workout for me.  At least I feel like it was. :o)

Teena - :o) I know, I've been bad at posting. Dr. told me not to run for a while, so I feel wierd about posting on a running blog... plus, I've been a total loser lately. My exercize this weekend consisted of kneading bread and babysitting a 5 and 3 yr-old girls for 10 hours on Saturday. I definitely wore me out! :o)

Okay... so my plan was to swim Monday, Wednesday, Friday this week... and would you have it that I got stung my a bee (between my toes of all places) in my bathroom while getting my swimming suite.  I'm (of course) allergic to bees (joy of joys), and had to take benedryl to slow down the reaction.  I took it, sat on the couch, and next thing I know it's Thursday morning.  Oh Joy!  So... that's my excuse for Wednesday.  Thursday Melanie and I were both cranky and had a hard time.  Then we built a fort in the living room, and played for a few hours (in much better moods).  By time I put her to bed, it was also time to put me to bed.

So...  I was determined to get my swimming in today.  It was 101 degrees out...  the pool was hot (like bath water).  Good Grief!  But we had fun!

300 yards in the nieghbor's pool.  I haven't done too much lately because I have been a little under the weather.  We went to the nieghbor's as a family, so Brandon and Melanie watched mommy swim... which looks more like flandering and drowning...  but gracefully, of course, and then we tossed Melanie back and forth in the water.

This weekend was really nice, especially mother's day.  I cut my hair pretty short.  I love it!  I also went to Lybi's baby shower!  It was a lot of fun.  Very classy!  Lybi was gorgious! (No surprise there). Thank you for inviting me to the party Lybi!  I had fun!

I haven't been exercizing... not enough time in the day between all the random things I have been doing for work, for church, and for my family.  Running is such an easy way to exercize, but alas, I'm still not allowed, so i'll be playing it by ear for a while.  I haven't been able to do any real swimming because I take my daughter with me.  And she is currently learning how to swim, so when we are in the pool, it's all about her.

Here is a run down of what we have been up to (with pictures):

We have spent a LOT of time in water. :o)  It's hot out...  you need to cool down.

HOW ARE YOU???? We have not chatted for a bit!

From Camille on Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 10:27:14 from 75.171.17.244

Eric and Sasha - thank you so much! We are super excited!

Rachel - this is very true. She has no idea what WE got her into. :o) But I think she is going to be a great big sister.

Mike - I can still swim. Actually, my doctor recommends it. I just haven't because I can't seem to get to the pool without Melanie, and now that she is a "big girl" she doesn't think she can sit in the floaty I have for her, so I end up holding her the entire time we are in the water. She is taking swimming lessons, but really, it's for her to learn survival skills. I'm not sure how well it's working though. Last weekend we were at the pool, in the baby pool area, and she kept tripping and not getting back up. I was constantly pulling her out of the water. It freaks me out.

Kelli - so sick... so very sick. The doc says between weeks 8 and 10 you are the sickest... but I'm at week 12 and feel much sicker now than I have the entire pregnancy. just shoot me. hopefully this is just morning sickness ending with a bang and soon it will be all gone. Then, maybe, I'll have the energy and desire to exercize again.

From montelepsy on Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 13:46:19 from 64.203.113.50

Where are you Camille?

Hope all is well!

From Camille on Sat, Aug 01, 2009 at 15:39:09 from 75.172.132.224

I'm around, but I haven't done anything but walk lately. I have a big test I'm taking in October and I've been studying everynight instead of exercizing. (So I guess you can say I've been working my brain muscle, not my leg muscles). LOL

From Burt on Sat, Aug 01, 2009 at 22:25:43 from 98.167.151.26

I'm envisioning you're brain getting all ripped and muscular. You're going to look like those aliens from Mars Attacks. You're about the right size, too :)

I LOVE ULTRASOUNDS!!!!! So very cute. Now, you did not find out the sex yet, right? It is still too early for that----or not????

Ohhh Melanie is having a sister, how awesome is that!!! How amazing is it that you can see so clearly the shape of her little head! I hope pregnancy is going well, it has to be worse to be pregnant during the summer months... hope all is well!

From Burt on Fri, Aug 14, 2009 at 14:30:59 from 68.76.197.194

I do the sex, too, but that's kind of a personal question to ask.

From argentinerocket on Fri, Aug 14, 2009 at 14:33:15 from 74.9.147.114

LOL!!! Burt you are so naughty, funny boy. I'm surprised you didn't make fun of Eric's bowel issues more... it seems right up your ally :)

Walked for 4 hours straight at the zoo (minus the time we spent at each exhibit where I proceeded to pick Melanie up out of her stroller to see the animals...  so it counts as working out).  Spent the evening wishing I had taken a break while at the zoo, or perhaps left earlier.  Melanie enjoyed the animals, though, so I don't wish to take that part back.

Here is a picture of Melanie after enjoying the Tiger (who was not only walking around, but growling at us!)

Thanks for letting me know. I had to find out second hand from Bethany.

From Camille on Wed, Dec 30, 2009 at 16:04:05 from 71.223.70.181

really? You were on my email list for my announcement. You didn't get it?

From Burt on Wed, Dec 30, 2009 at 16:09:13 from 206.19.214.144

Nope. But when I talked to Bethany she said she thought my name was on there. That was Sat. so I thought maybe it was sent to my work email. Nothing. :(

From seeaprilrun on Wed, Dec 30, 2009 at 18:25:56 from 205.172.12.229

Congratulations Camille! She is beautiful!

From Burt on Wed, Dec 30, 2009 at 18:59:23 from 206.19.214.144

Ooh, I just thought of something. When I came to work Monday I had about 9 email alerts telling me I had exceeded my storage limit. So, that's probably why.

CONGRATULATIONS on your Christmas baby!!! She is adorable! :) :) :)

From Camille on Mon, Jan 04, 2010 at 11:55:18 from 71.223.70.181

Thanks. Yes... Noelle had perfect timing. LOL. I suppose if you are going to have a birthday that close to Christmas, might as well be *on* Christmas Day. When she is older and hates her birthday, I'll have to let her know that she is the one that choose it. :o)

Eric - My husband is definitely warming to the idea of having all girls in the house. We do have 2 male fish to even things out a bit.

From Merri on Mon, Jan 04, 2010 at 12:44:55 from 160.7.252.148

congrats! A Christmas baby!!
