I'm back from the doctor's office with the verdict... stress fracture of my femur.

So, has anyone had this?  What cross training would you reccommend?  Will I still be able to do the Ragnar (End on February)???

I'm depressed!

Sorry to hear that. I would follow the doctor's orders.

You could learn to swim :)

From Camille on Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 10:08:30

Oh, I'll follow doctor's orders, as soon as he gives them to me. He wants me to get another xray before he officially tells me what is going on. Joy! I do that tomorrow. Hopefully there isn't anything worse going on. Did I do this to myself, or does it just happen? I probably could learn to swim, that would be good... only I'm too cheap to join a gym.

Camille,

Stink!! I am so so so so so sorry!!

As much as I hate it, I think that injuries are just a part of the game when you push yourself. (Unfortunately.)

It is definitely frustrating when you feel like you are on top of the world and that things are really going your way to find yourself injured all of a sudden.

When is your next x-ray?

Stay positive ... it's obvious that you are a fighter and will get this thing taken care of and behind you. Wish I had some advice on what type(s) of crosstraining you could do.

Sending you lots of positive healing vibes.

Teena,

My xray is on Monday. I haven't been able to schedule it yet, because they have been closed since my doctor's appointment. So, on the discussion board, someone said it took them 4 months to heal. If that's the case, I may be out of commission for the Ragnar. :o(

Burt - If you read this... do you think I could still be on the team, and if I'm not able to run, I can walk my legs? Man...

Maybe I'm gettin ahead of myself.

Do you think Pilatees is safe to do?

From seeaprilrun on Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 15:07:50

Oh Camille that STINKS! I hope you keep blogging with your cross-training while it heals--that will probably help keep you sane! Maybe the x-ray will show that it is not too bad....

I had a stress fracture in my foot several years ago that sidelined me for a couple of months, and the way I tried to stay in shape was by doing a fair amount of swimming and a lot of core work. Best of luck!

From Burt on Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 21:26:19

What the heck happened to my star runner??? Well, I guess we'll talk Monday at work. Maybe after your X-ray you'll have a better idea of when you can be back in training.

Pool running might help. I know a woman who qualified for Boston running 80% of her miles in a pool. You'll need an aqua belt: http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=aqua+belts&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=1152963521&ref=pd_sl_57eqtbg3qg_b

Best wishes.

I am so sorry about the fracture. What is the Doc telling you about healing time?

From montelepsy on Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 01:12:51

I was told that when bones knit they're stronger than before. Your femur will be bulletproof.
