I need to run.  I need to blog.

The last three weeks I've been in a funk.  A funky funk.  I get home at 6am after working a 12 hour shift.  All I want to do is go to sleep.  So I do.  When I get up, it's sooo hot.  I've had no desire to run in this heat.  And the more I didn't run, the more I convinced myself that it was okay to take a break from running for a while.  After all, everybody does it.  And some of my wonderful blogger friends like Steam8 can't even run anymore.  I'm sure that it willl be hard for her, but she'll move on.  She'll find other ways to be active.  I can do the same.

And blogging.  Several bloggers have said, "What would we do without you, Burt?"  In my mind I've thought, "You'd be just fine.  You'll find someone else just as funny as me, and you'll keep on blogging."

But here's the thing.  In three weeks time my cholesterol has gotten out of control.  I feel horrible.  My diet hasn't helped.  And my legs aren't as strong.  I need to run.  It's a matter of health.  And sanity.  I also need to blog.  When I first joined the blog I was so excited about running.  More than that, I was excited about making other people excited about running.  Then I kind of became the class clown.  Which is fine, I guess.  But I miss telling people how awesome they are.  I miss reading everyone's race reports.  I miss my friends.  So, I think it's time for a fresh start.  I still don't think I'll be able to devote as much time to the blog as I used to, but I'm gonna try to do better.

2 miles, 9:06 pace, 94°F.

Run Burt, RUN!!!:) Believe me, I know how you feel. When I started waitressing in Feb. 2010, I wouldn't get home til late at night and felt like death and look what has happened to me. I have taken a 2 year break and so wish I hadn't. Get home at 6:00 and run then go to sleep. Listen to me lecturing...I'm just telling you to do what I wish I was, or had done. It is so hard to run when life is busy, your tired, etc. but WAY harder to start over and build back up. You can do it...even if you are POOPED;0

From Burt on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 08:10:44 from 72.223.82.180

Thanks Parker Nelson! You're awesome! And I think you look great even if you took two years off. Of course I haven't seen you, but in my mind, you look great :)

From Shimelle on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 08:13:51 from 67.177.13.15

Wait, why am I Parker Nelson?

From Burt on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 08:16:48 from 72.223.82.180

Oops, I meant Park Nelson.

From Kam on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 08:26:09 from 68.66.163.179

Go, Burt. You won't regret making the time.

From Lily on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 08:31:39 from 67.199.178.210

You won't regret it. Come on back and make me laugh everyday Burty.

From Burt on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 08:44:30 from 72.223.82.180

Thanks Kam! You're awesome! Plus I'll get to work on my abvolts.

Lily, you're awesome! I'm glad you remember me now that you're so popular :)

I thought it was funny Burt because I have a son named Parker:)

From Scott Ensign on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 11:10:34 from 129.123.3.84

if you stop blogging so will I btw.

get the cholesterol under control. take some fish oil. and niacin. and become a vegan. well, the fish oil and niacin are easy anyway the vegan part is harder- but will do the job properly.

From Rye on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 14:45:01 from 174.27.117.224

A revamped and supercharged Burt? Yikes! Get things under control running friend! I have felt somewhat dismayed without all of your Arizona prophet knowledge. Where else am I going to get my information?

From ben on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 15:56:55 from 209.33.248.15

Welcome Back!!! I can't do this without you!!

From flatlander on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 16:11:19 from 198.207.244.102

Good news, glad you are back. Have to admire you running in that kind of heat.

From Burt on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 16:42:21 from 72.223.82.180

Shimelle - I know. :)

Rooster - You're awesome! I guess I can never stop blogging then. Fish oil works pretty good. But it makes all your burps taste like fish. And that's a good thing.

Rye - You're awesome! I'm pretty sure Moroni passed through AZ on his way up to NY.

Ben - You're awesome! Somewhat untruthful, but awesome!

Mark - You're awesome! Your admiration is the only thing I've ever wanted.

From Chad Robinson on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 16:57:19 from 50.73.39.89

And I thought you could "never have too much awesomeness". I stand corrected.

From ben on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 17:36:00 from 209.33.248.15

Never lied in my entire life...

From Burt on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 17:46:54 from 72.223.82.180

Chad - you are awesome! And you should see today's entry.

ben - that's what a liar would say.

From Dan on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 17:53:41 from 24.209.83.20

Glad you got out today, nice post Burt. Oh and no, I did not get that from a fortune cookie. Schedule a race :)

From Burt on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 17:55:02 from 72.223.82.180

Dan - you are awesome! Not from a fortune cookie. But I really did have one today. It said "Forget those things that aren't worth remembering." Who writes these things???

From Dan on Tue, May 29, 2012 at 17:58:34 from 24.209.83.20

Please don't say Oprah writes them... Seriously good move on the run (and cookie)

Thanks Dale. You're awesome! If that really is your name.

That's my name, don't wear it out.

From SlowJoe on Wed, May 30, 2012 at 18:14:25 from 69.131.141.92

Hey Burt, you are awesome! Glad to see you back. Your schedule sounds just like the one I had overseas, but I had no additional responsibilities over there other than work (no family/church commitments, etc), so it was A LOT easier for me to make time to run. But, I am proof that you can get used to running in the morning after a 12-hour night shift. You can do it!

Maybe you could pick out a good half marathon in the fall, pay for it, and train for a PR. Nothing like having some money down on a race and a goal in front of you to get you going.

From Burt on Wed, May 30, 2012 at 18:17:13 from 72.223.82.180

That's not a bad idea Joe. YOU are awesome!

From Nan on Thu, Jun 07, 2012 at 08:20:13 from 98.245.117.176

Logging in JUST for you today, Burt. I too have been a major slacker and non-blogger for much longer than you. Way to get started up again though. The blog needs you and you need running. Good suggestions by Scott; fish oils are the pits though. I'm taking them right now *burp* not for my cholesterol but for the baby's brain development. You could start with vegetarian or even just cut back on animal flesh and butter, maybe that would help? Good luck!

From Nan on Thu, Jun 07, 2012 at 08:20:59 from 98.245.117.176

Oh, and YOU, Burt are awesome.

From Burt on Thu, Jun 07, 2012 at 15:32:12 from 72.223.80.161

Nan - you are the definition of awesomeness.
