Runningafterbabies had another 5k race today.  I heard she was really smoking.

I went for a recovery run at 9:30p.  It was 92°  out.  No Garmin.  Just me and the night freaks.  So I was about a quarter mile away from the canal and I see this helicopter out with a spotlight searching for something or someone.  It looks like it might be going up and down the canal.  So I'm thinking, "Great.  There's a serial rapist out on the canal that I'm about to run on!  I hope it's a girl."  Well, I didn't feel like turning around, so up the canal I went.  The chopper made a few more circles and then came around and lit me up right before the MWF.  That was pretty exciting, but I just played it cool and pretended like I didn't notice.

I'm so offended!

From Burt on Tue, Sep 04, 2012 at 21:51:17 from 72.223.86.148

Offended that the whole world now knows you smoke cigars while you run??? Me too!

From DaleG on Tue, Sep 04, 2012 at 21:56:26 from 152.216.11.5

Way to get in a late run.

Smoking and running don't mix.

With my luck, if I was spotted by a helicopter, they'd think I was the culprit and I'd be arrested.

From Burt on Tue, Sep 04, 2012 at 21:59:36 from 72.223.86.148

They'd have to catch you first DG! Run, Dale, run!

Sweet run! It was just your night to shine! Good thing you're not in Colorado or you would be The Shining. All I've ever had circle me was hawks & vultures. And RAD.

From Burt on Wed, Sep 05, 2012 at 07:26:09 from 72.223.86.148

RAD is a vulture. So to speak.

I LOVE running at night, the later the better. When I run through the "shady" parts of town and a cop drives by, I'm glad I have my running clothes on. They probably wonder what this skinny-ish white boy is doing running around down there. I think to myself: "If I were running away after committing a crime, don't you think I'd be going faster than a 10:00 pace?"

Funny story about the canals (since you brought it up). I was on my mission and my companion and I were super late getting home. It was really dark and both of the headlights on our bikes were out or going out. For some reason, we thought it was a better idea to ride on the canal without lights than on the street. Anyways, we were hauling and about a mile from home, I hit something and go flying over the handlebars. I'm laying there stunned, but relieved I didn't end up in the canal. In between my moans and my companions "hey, you OK??", I hear another moan 30' or so behind me. Turns out I hit a drunk guy that had passed out on the canal! So we called the ambulance for him (he was just bruised up) and I ruined a pair of slacks. "How funny is that!"

That is hilarious! In breaking his ribs, you probably saved his life.

From RAD on Thu, Sep 06, 2012 at 12:30:07 from 98.202.23.178

The vulture has swooped in to pick the conversation clean a few days later :)

From Burt on Thu, Sep 06, 2012 at 12:40:19 from 71.216.109.214

Atta vulture! Wait 'til it's rotted and stinky. Love ya RAD!

From rAtTLeTrAp on Fri, Sep 07, 2012 at 08:05:18 from 24.19.80.36

BNS's story is way better than your blog Burt. You gotta step up your game.

From Burt on Fri, Sep 07, 2012 at 09:56:32 from 71.216.109.214

Step up my game? I have a picture of Melody smoking a cigar! What more do you want?

You're right, though. Often I will start telling stories and build them up as if something awesome is going to happen, then...nothing. Sorry about that.

And I cannot confirm or deny that Melody actually inhaled.

From julieesplin on Fri, Sep 07, 2012 at 11:16:38 from 75.169.166.253

Have you considered that other people may think you're one of the night freaks?

From julieesplin on Fri, Sep 07, 2012 at 11:17:56 from 75.169.166.253

When I run with Melody in the winter, say when it's less than 32 degrees outside, I've seen what looks like smoke coming out of her mouth when she runs.

From Burt on Fri, Sep 07, 2012 at 12:03:49 from 71.216.109.214

I fully expect people to think of me as a night freak. And thanks for confirming my suspicions about Melody. We need to have an intervention with her.

From baldnspicy on Fri, Sep 07, 2012 at 14:50:04 from 167.164.3.140

Burt's pictures are worth 999 words. I'm wordy, but with one quick PhotoShop edit, Burt can say more than 2 of my blog posts combined. Hail to the night freak!

From Tara on Sat, Sep 08, 2012 at 13:05:02 from 75.169.151.237

Wow, Melody. I would have never believed it if Burt hadn't leaked it. He's a regular TMZ. It looks like she is celebrating early as she sprints in to the finish. Maybe that is her secret!

From Burt on Sat, Sep 08, 2012 at 14:35:54 from 72.223.86.148

Like how Red Auerbach used to light up a cigar as soon as he knew the Celtics had the game in the bag? Haha! That's how Darko Milicic got the nickname the Human Victory Cigar because the Pistons would never play him until they knew for sure they were going to win.

From flatlander on Sun, Sep 09, 2012 at 05:04:29 from 76.31.26.153

Burt, that's the best comment on the whole string. I'm going to be laughing about Darko all day, which isn't good because it's Sunday and I have lots to do.

From Burt on Sun, Sep 09, 2012 at 17:51:18 from 72.223.86.148

Yes! I hope you weren't too distracting at church today. Now in Darko's defense, he has shown significant improvement over the last couple of seasons.
