Today I did a test run to sort of give me an idea of how much fitness i've lost. Turns out i've lost ALOT!! I guess that's what happens when your put on bed rest for a couple of months...any way I went to the gym to run 1 mile. At least I finished, I was counting down the minutes. It took me 9:55, the competitive nature in me made me push the last tenth so I could break 10 minutes, haha. When I finished I took my heart rate and it was 192. I know that is alot higher than it should be especially since my "max" heart rate is suposidly 204. So just wondering, is my heart rate that high because I'm still recovering from mono or because I'm really out of shape? After the run I intended on doing a little bit of core work but was too sick and tired from running to do any. I really need to do something though because I've lost alot of muscle. I would like to try to do 1 mile each day till I can do that comfortably and then try 2 or 3 and see how that goes. Do you think it is too soon to start running again? It's been 6 weeks since I was diagnose with mono and 1 1/2 weeks since I had my tonsils out. If it's not to soon to start running again should I run slower to keep my heart rate lower? Just wondering, any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks |
