I took second at USATF Nationals Cross-Country when I was ten. I was 6th at nationals in the 3000 in 2004.

Personal:

I did lots of competitive running growing up. I'm now 23 and have fibromyalgia and CFS. I just finished nursing school and am going back for my MSN in a few months, but I want to get back in shape and be able to run again.

We warmed up 1 mile. I felt great. My legs felt really good. I was excited to run. I was happy about the weather conditions because I prefer bad weather. We did strides and they felt good. Then we went to our boxes, and I started to feel really sick. I'm not sure if it was nerves or what but I just told myself to relax and the race would be fine. The race started and I felt like I had a good start. We went up the hill and then were on the flat part. My stomach was hurting more and more. At the top of the downhill I remember thinking to myself that it was my stomach that hurt not my legs and I would be just fine. Then going up the big hill I slowed down alot. I was passed by at least 5 people. Mentally I had quit, but then I regrouped and tried to push realizing I was only a mile into the race and I could make up for it. I pushed and passed a group of people, but then I just kept feeling more and more sick, and my legs started to cramp. I basically gave up and was now just trying to finish, I was letting lots of people pass me at one point I even considered dropping out, but at least I finished. After the race I was really cold and still felt really sick. I think I was dehydrated because when I thought back through the day I hadn't drank any water. I feel really bad about the race. I should have done better, but I have to move on now. Nationals are in a couple of months. I need to refocus and hopefully I can do better there. (Hayward 106)

You have two more years to get better and have a good race at State. Learn from your experience and it will help you do better in the future.

Hang in there, Breanna. I bet you beat a ton of older girls. You'll come back even stronger next year, I'm sure.

That's a tough break, getting stomach trouble and possibly being dehydrated. But you've had some really strong races through the summer and fall and this is just one race, you'll bounce back. You have tons of potential so stick with it!
