I took second at USATF Nationals Cross-Country when I was ten. I was 6th at nationals in the 3000 in 2004.

Personal:

I did lots of competitive running growing up. I'm now 23 and have fibromyalgia and CFS. I just finished nursing school and am going back for my MSN in a few months, but I want to get back in shape and be able to run again.

Today I had an awesome run. me and my dad ran from Birch Hollow to the overlook and back and then we added on the road to make it an even ten. The run felt really good, so at 5.5 we did a tempo mile till 6.5 in 7:30 and then a tempo half-mile from 7.25 to 7.75 in 3:45. Those parts felt fine but it was really hard to breathe. My legs would fatigue but I'm able to push through that it's the breathing that gets to me. Our total time for the run was 1:30.09. It felt really good but I got 4 blisters and my left knee was bothering me. I'm still a little bit sore from steeple chase but I don't think it affected my run today. (Pegasus: 17 miles)

Earlier today me and my dad certified the Judges Run 5k. So I also biked about 6 miles. The course should be interesting. It starts in the Highland High School parking lot, the first 400 meters is a loop around the lot and then you go out to the perimeter of the park and have the width of a side walk to run on. Then you run around the perimeter of the park on the grass and then run on 15th east to 17th south and up to the Wasatch Presbyterian Church. It should be an interesting race.

Also, I was just wondering, what are your thoughts on drinking carbonation? Does it really affect your running?

I do not know. I have not had any since 1993. My approach to diet - if I am not positive that a food or drink helps I do not take it in just because the stomach can hold only that much, and therefore it would be taking the place of something that does help even if does not directly hurt.

I like the way Sasha put that. And I think many of us wish we could have that will-power or whatever it is that sometimes I lack. As far as carbonation, everything I have looked at is that it actually doesn't hurt you (but it doesn't help). One thing that does hurt you however is the sugars that carbonated drinks have in them as well as the tendency we have to drink a Coke or two instead of the high volume of water needed to replenish our bodies especially during these summer months. So drink up the ol' H2O and enjoy a Coke sparingly if at all.

When I drink a carbonated soda I often get a stomach ache later running so I try to avoid it prior to running, although sometimes Ill take a few sips of a pepsi to get my caffeine but limit it to that
