5K: 21:26 (2005)

4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

Awesome run, I was the first out on the newly fallen snow.  I actually took a chance and ran on some trails.  Luckily the snow was not too deep, though just deep enough to mask rocks and holes, so I took it super easy on the way out.  Then I made it to a forest service road that was much more sun exposed, and it was a little less dangerous -- however, in the two hours I was out quite a few of the sections of road had melted, and thus were deep, and heavy (;-)) mud.

I felt really good, I had run this same route in October, and was not only faster, but just felt much stronger this time.  So happy.

Only bad thing was that when I got home my hands were so cold that I couldn't get my gloves off, I tried to warm them up with some tepid water, and put them near the heater, and as they thawed out it hurt so badly that it brought tears to my eyes.  OUCH.

It was so beautiful out though, well worth the 1/2 hour of discomfort.  I loved being the first live thing on the trail!!

9 miles - 9 x 1` hill repeats -- YIKES these were hard.  I picked a too steep hill -- it was super super steep at the top and I *knew* my behind was going to be sore!!

4 miles easy - I ran with one of my co-workers after work -- we ran some trails in a state park near work.  It was fun, and made the time fly!!

Quick run, off to teach.  Took a very late flight to DC for a meeting after my 2nd class.  Didn't get in to DC until 1AM, did not get to sleep until 3 ... yikes, I am too old for this stuff!!

AM: 9 miles, 10 x :45 w/1:30 recovery.  Nice and flat!  Surprisingly, I felt pretty good for someone with 5 hours of sleep and sitting on a plane for 6 hours!

PM: easy 4.

Took an hour metro ride to visit with some friends up in Bethesda.  I miss them very much, and even though it meant I had to miss a dinner with some of the folks from the meeting I am at, I have decided that life is too short not to visit with my friends whenever I can.  I am reminded by something I read recently that said, "no one ever said on their deathbed, I wish I had worked more".

I will whine a tiny bit and say that the time change here (2 hours a head) is difficult ;-)

Easy 7.  My legs were a little tired today - a matched set to go along with my tired body ;-).

Sat in a meeting for 9 hours, went to dinner, and then went to the Kennedy Center to see the National Symphony Orchestra -- they were so incredible!!  Even though there is no free lunch at this meeting, it does have some perks ;-).

Squeezed in another run -- only one today because the meeting is over at 3, and then I get to run to the airport to sit on a plane ;-).  Beautiful, albeit early (again) run!
