10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM: 7 miles -- 89F by 8AM.  did not feel as bad as I thought it might, but it was pretty hot.  I brought carrots for Dover this morning - it was good to see him.  I need to find the energy to see Big Boy and Coco soon ...

PM: easy 4.

OH SO HOT, you tough woman for running in it. Do you ever run on a treadmill or do you always just melt?

Hi Kelli - I really really really despise treadmills ... so, I just melt ;-). Theoretically, I could get out before the sun comes up, which is much better (still in the 80s, but being in the sun makes it feel much warmer) - but, I am simply not a morning person - even though I get up at 5:30 (which, I know, is late for you) - I never get out the door before 7:30 or even later.

I know how difficult it is to move past a bad race, but, you need to get well (tummy-wise), learn from it, and think forward! You have had SO many good races, you are bound to have a couple bad ones ... and you will come back even stronger now. Hugs.

OH, 5:30 is early! Remember, I only get up that early twice a week while working. And lately, not at all. I am not a morning person, either. I despise getting up before the sun.

Thanks for the input, as always! I do need to figure out what is wrong with my body. I have been having stomach issues (mostly just cramping pains) for almost two months now, off and on. Both of my last races, although they went great, were preceded by serious pain. I do think this one was different, a bug of some sort, as I still do not feel well. BUT, something is up!

I am going to do this What Went Wrong log. I already know part of it was the two marathons close together. The added fatigue from that combined with the sickness were a bad combination. I also believe I need to clean up my eating. I am a horrible eater, I eat way too much junk and I use running as an excuse to do it. I think I have become intolerant to something (gluten or milk???) There is no reason for my stomach to hurt all of the time---unless it is stress. I think signing up for the Grand Slam has stressed me out too much. It is enough to compete in each race, but to know that 4 races will be added together...TOO MUCH! That stress is now gone as I am no longer even close (she beat me by 28 minutes yesterday). Maybe taking that pressure off will help. All of my disappointment from yesterday's race comes from knowing I can no longer compete for first place, BUT I will not dwell on it past today. Today I can give, tomorrow I move on and get back at it.

I LOVE this McMillan guy. What I would not give to train with him for a day or a week! You are lucky to know him, he is smart.

THANKS for letting me rant a little and for those two articles. You truly are the wisest person I have never yet met!!!
