PR's

5K: 21:26 (2005)

4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

2:02:34.  Very nice run -- very hilly run.  I still am having to take it really easy, but I am happy just be able to run at all!

So great track and field this weekend.  Lot's of indoor American records fell on Saturday!

Millrose summary (New York):

Indoor 5K: passed from Rupp (13:11.44) to Lagat (13:07.44)  **** SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS

Both Lawi Lalang and Stephan Sambu (of University of Arizona!!) took down  Rupp's collegiate record of 13:18 with 13:08.28 and 13:13.74, respectively.  By the way, Lalang's mark also took down Henry Rono's 34 year OUTDOOR collegiate record of 13:08.4!!!   *** THIS IS HUGE!!

Finally, Edward Cheserk got a HS record, in the same 5K, with a 13:54.04 (the old record was 14:06.78 set by Luke Verzbicas.

Jenny Simpson got a win in the mile and Morgan Uceny got the win in the 800m -- yea!

USATF Classic summary (Arkansas):

Indoor 2 mile: passed on from Lagat (8:10.07) to Rupp (8:09.72) !! Loved that Bumbi (from Nashville) took 2nd!

Mile race: ALL 8 runners ran sub-4.  It was a wickedly fast race -- especially for indoors

Pretty awesome weekend. I don't think we'll see anything this exciting again until outdoor track kicks into full swing.

And did you see that finish b/w Hall and Huddle at USA XC? Lots of great running all over the place this weekend. I couldn't even keep up w/ it all! :-)

I KNOW! Yes, seeing Sara pass Molly at the line was amazing. It was hard though, I am a huge fan of both of them and felt bad rooting for one over the other.

Sorry to have missed you guys, it sounds (and looks) like you had a great time!

We would consider Mammoth, but we usually spend July in Flagstaff (and that way we can bring all of our animals -- saves a lot of $ and makes them a lot happier!).

I like them both, too. Molly and I are both New Yorkers - she kicked serious butt at our HS state meet, while I just hung on for PRs :-) I've always been a fan of and rooted for Sara, too.

Sedona was pretty awesome - have you run there much? Seems like the trail possibilities are endless

I have run there some, but during the summer Flagstaff is much better (2000 - 3000 ft higher means about 20 degrees cooler ;-) ). I do love the trails there, not as rocky as either here or up in Flagstaff. Many of Greg's athletes go down there to run track workouts when it is too snowy in Flagstaff.

During the winter, Tucson is about the same temperature - but the mountains are a little different down here - not as many mesas or red rock down here - and we are about 1000-2000 ft lower. Personally, I don't like Phoenix (or Scottsdale) much ... but that could just be that I don't know any of the good areas -- it also could be bias because both Tucson and Northern AZ are known to be on the liberal side, politics-wise, while Maricopa is known to be on the more conservative side (much more conservative ;-) ).

They have a great new track in Sedona. The facility is amazing.

Phoenix/Scottsdale are not that great for running. I would get bored if I was there all the time - but for a long weekend, its a nice escape :-)
