10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

1:04:14.  Hmmmm, a little fast for a recovery run,  I felt pretty good today!  The reason?  well, I got 7 hours sleep for the first time in a few weeks, and, I think my recovery tights are working.  I splurged on some recovery tights a couple weeks ago.  And it might be the placebo effect, but I actually think they work.  I usually wear them after my long run and sometimes after hard workouts, when I do use them after workouts, my legs are not nearly as "dead" the next day.  Yesterday I wore them as tights under a dress and then wore high boots over the top.  Very stylish and they looked just like regular tights.  And my legs felt pretty darn good today.

I was walking down the driveway and caught in traffic -- "our" 20+ javelina were crossing the driveway and I had to wait until they all got across before I could get out to the street (when they are in such a large group - and with their babies - they actually could "charge" a person and they are big enough that it would definitely hurt).  It was pretty funny.

I hope you all have a great Friday.  I finally got my manuscript finished and submitted to the journal, now I just have to get my lecture notes finished for Monday and get all my grants reviewed by Sunday, and all will be ready for my trip to DC next week.

Interesting on the recovery tights thing.

And how close can you get to these things? They're pretty weird looking (I admit, despite the fact that you've written about them before, this is the first time I've actually looked at a picture).

Tights, yum, yum! Hey woman, great week for your mileage! Are you running tomorrow?

Tracy, I think the picture looks funni(er) because it is a guy wearing them ... some of the brands look more like regular running tights. These actually look more like womens tights (though they are a little thicker -- you would love them in the winter). Seriously, no one could tell yesterday that I wasn't just wearing run-of-the-mill tights. The downside? They are really something to get in and out of (think of pantyhose x100) ;-).

Hey Slick, yup, 12 miles tomorrow, the usual. How are you feeling on day 81 of your countdown? Are you running tomorrow? you are rocken the mileage!!

Sorry, I wasn't clear! I meant that the javelina's are funny looking. Really funny looking!

ha ha ha ... yes Tracy, javelina are pretty funny looking. There are actually wild pigs here too (though none in the mountains that I live in) -- and if you see pictures of both of them they really do look quite different.

Javelina have this spiny - almost porcupine like - "hair" and when they come up on you they stop walking and get bristly ... they are pretty near blind so when they charge they really aren't trying to hurt you, they just want to see who/what you are and try to scare you off. When they are in packs (like these yesterday -- there were a couple dozen I think) they can be deadly for dogs. I think that most coyotes, and even mountain lions, leave them alone. Their biggest predator, from what I can tell, are hunters and cars.
