4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

2:45:33 (8:16AP).  I was running running at about 9 min/mile, or even slower, the first 8-9 miles (headwind, my legs are dead, I had a rough night sleep-wise).  I did not have mile markers for all of my miles, but my last 2 with mile markers (about 2 miles from the turn-around, were 8:55 pace).  Then, after 12 miles I picked it up, had a mile marker 6 miles out (14:56 for two miles, 7:28 pace -- no wonder it felt hard!), then the next 4 were 7:35, 7:34, 7:32, 7:16.  It was 81F when I finished -- and 2PM!!!  Talk about carbo depletion ;-).

So, we went out to dinner with some friends last night -- it was great fun, and we were home by 8:30!  We watched a movie and were in bed by 10:30 (yes, we are old fogies).  Then, around midnight the fireworks started and one of our dogs Jake freaked out.  He can open doors and opened our bedroom door!!  He is just a baby, he is a hound dog (we got him in Tennessee -- he showed up on our door one day) and we have always thought that his old owners kicked him out because he is such a horrible hunting dog (afraid of fireworks, likely guns as well).  Well, I tried to get him to calm down in the living room, but he kept coming into the bedroom, so finally at about 1:30AM we just let him stay in the bedroom.  But, it was a comedy of errors with me blindly trying to get him out into the living room only to have him slink back up the hall, I stepped on a broken dog bone and cut my foot, tried to catch the cat as she also ran into the bedroom ;-) ... so, after all that, I did not get back to sleep until nearly 2-3 AM.   I was tired this morning -- plus, my sinus infection is hanging on for dear life and I swear, the last 8 miles of this run I had snot pouring down my face (I did not care ;-) ).

Oh well, last 20 miler done ... now I just have to stay healthy ;-) ... and make it to the line.

I am a little freaked out, not just about the race (though there is that too), but I am actually having to make a business trip the Monday/Tuesday before the race -- a trans-continential flight from Tucson to Philadelphia -- very little sleep those two days, the first day of the semester is the Wednesday after the trip (early class) -- also my last workout -- and then a flight out to Houston on Friday ... oh boy there it is going to take a lot of vitamin C not to get sick that week ;-).

Well, the New Year has begun.  I hope you are all enjoying it!  Happy 2012!!!!

wow what a great run Bonnie!

one of my dogs is just the opposite. whenever there are fireworks he barks at them and bounds back and forth across the yard waiting for the next one. when it's over he comes back in the house all panting with a big grin on his face. it's pretty funny to watch.

Thanks JD ... it was much harder than I wanted it to be, I am still going to blame it on Jake ;-). I guess I am glad that Jake is a scaredy-dog than a "going to get those things" ;-) We live outside of the city limits and primarily have private fireworks -- some of them are pretty big! I can't believe they are legal. At about 4 a large pack of coyotes ran by howling -- I don't think they were happy either!!

WOW! Coyotes, fireworks AND snot? What a night//run. Seriously, so impressive! you are ready to kill it in 2 weeks! Maybe add ColdEze to your regimen (the zinc seems to really speed things up a bit to help push the cold along). Don't get the sugar free ones tho (yuck!!)

Karen!! I was thinking of you this morning - congratulations on your stunning 101 mile week last week! you seriously rock!

How about zinc pills instead? sugar-free? what's the point ;-)

From Karen on Sun, Jan 01, 2012 at 21:19:00 from 69.171.160.237

YAY! Glad I could be "along for the ride" this morning! I keep friends with me as well to draw on extra strength for sure. I guess in theory the zinc pills might work. I think hat by having a lozenge though, you are more apt to absorb more of the zinc, as most vitamin pills generally don't absorb and are pee'd out. I got the idea from the Adam's State team. they do emergenC pretty regularly and also use the lozenges after tough workouts to hopefully increase their immunity.

Hey Bonnie! Congrats on having the most miles of 2012 for now! I haven't been keeping up with everyone..it looks like you have a marathon coming up soon. When? Good luck! And Happy New Year! Sorry about the rough night! Sometimes pets are harder than kids! : )

I hope you weren't eyeing little girls with bad intent.

I'm excited for you Bonnie! I look forward to hearing your race report and well-deserved PR! You are certainly patient. We didn't make it until midnight New Year's Eve.

Burt -- aqualung -- I got it ... I am a big Jethro Tull fan, of course you knew that.

Can't wait to meet up in Houston April!!!!

You are sick now which means you can't be sick for the race, right? I'd take the trade off. The work can help take the mind of the big race. What a good time to taper, as the semester starts and a work trip. POSITIVE THINKING :D :D
