Running Accomplishments:

A marathon runner just trying to enjoy good health and running long. 22 years between marathon 6 & 7, raising kids. 48 marathons and counting. Average finishing time ~  3:25. Want to keep this average above 3:30 as I continue to age deepin into my 50's.   Looking for a 3:12 in SLC 2012

Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep my SL Marathon time in "teens". Possibly break the teens (3:12 - 3:00).  Two screws in right knee gives me a reality check on my ambitions. I don't want to sacrafice my joint for too crazy of a goal. Good health is my real goal.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running strong into my 60's, and add to my marathon count.  In 1982 I finished St. George at 2:57, 1 second behind a 60 year old. I've always  wondered if I could break 3 hours when I'm in my 60's. I'd like to find out.

Personal:

Married 26 years. Rosalie and I have 4 children. Love running hills, especially up Millcreek Canyon. I live 3/4 mile from its base.

Redrock Marathon 2011: 3:33 - major accomplish. 3,300' elevation gain.

SLC Marathon 2009, 2010 & 2011 : 3:15

Ogden Marathon 2010: 3:22

Teton Dam Marathon 2010 3:18

Deseret News 2010 3:47 (broke arm 30 hours before run - arm in cast)

Park City Marathon 2010 3:45 (arm in cast)

Pocatello Marathon 2010: 3:12

St. George Maratho 3:10 (2009 & 2010) 3:08:50 (2011)

With Romrell: out around sugarhouse park, through country club; along 23rd to 13th, up past cemetery and back along wasatch. Through parleys crossing and along frontage, up diagonal to 4-way. Then down and along Wasatch to oakridge overpass. 14.2 to there. I then ran over to skyline, 2x400, then home for another 2 miles.

Went up to the snow gate on a casual run before my Dr.'s appointment. Still snow packs above gate. Finished respectably in 1:28.

Needed a run after driving 1000 miles through Idaho. Would like to have stopped and run 7 miles around the "craters of the moon" site, on highway 20.

Windy Sunday morning. Ran up to the Inn at Millcreek.  Stopped along the way to look at the muddy creek flowing very respectably.

Ran the monster in 51:50, with 4 oz weights in each of my shoes. Why? trying to trick myself into the light weight shoes I'll run Ogden marathon.

The river from the dam was impressive. Kept wondering why no one was kayaking or rafting. A hugh flow. I ran well, but my plantars faciatis hurt around mile 13. Running in the gravel shoulder helped some. I was almost reduced to walking at 18. Makes me mad. I don't know what to do about it. Cortisone shot? I stretch it but nothing helps. Driving home was very painful as the tendons tightened up.

This is a nice run, but I'm confused why it seems harder than SL marathon when it actually has another 500 feet drop. I consistently do 5 to 7 minutes better at Salt Lake. Maybe its because I spend too much time looking around at the canyon and reservoir. I KNOW I spent a lot of time watching the river below the dam. That was amazing.

Equivalent 10. Biked up rattlesnake and up pipeline to elbow. This was a killer on the quads, and equivalent to a run the length of the ride up. Elevation gail 1800 feet. Magnificent day. Trail had plenty of ponding water. At elbow, water was flowing across the road from Mt. Aiers.

It actually snowed last night. This is memorial day Monday. I awoke to snow on the ground. Really didn't want to get out of bed, but couldn't resist the interest to see what the canyon was like. Wow. Slush starting at the stop sign, and getting deeper with each step. The road above the gate had 3" of snow, and reached 6" by the time I hit elbow. I really could only run another 1/8th mile above elbow before the snow fields and new snow made it unrealistic. I was surprised to reach elbow, with long pants, at 1:07. But it took me an hour to get home. My feet are sore, especially the right, with the plantars faciitis. Pain to run, especially down.
