Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -
We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -
The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes
"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi
"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

| 5:30 PM - Overcast and rainy today. Needed to get a jog in. Back to work. First week of professional development was okay. Lots of new things though, and my brain is system overload now. Also, got in a fender bender on Friday on the way home from work. The guy had it estimated and it looks like it will cost $225 to fix his car. My hood got pushed under his bumper so it won't open now. I hope total it will only cost me $500. What a way to end the week. It was my first car accident too. Did the first 3.25 miles on the treadmill, but got too overheated, so I went to the track and eased into a run. Held 8:00 pace through .75 miles and sped through the last lap, ending the mile in 7:40. Then did a slower 8:30 pace 400m, a 6:00 pace 1:30 400m, and finally two laps to cool down. Total Time: 45:00 Total Distance: 5.25 miles Average Pace: 8:34 |

| 5:30 PM - 75 degrees and sunny. What a difference a day makes. Yesterday was hurricane Irene that dumped up to a foot of rain on parts of the area. So many without power and with homes and roads and towns destroyed. We were very fortunate. Waited for Emm to get out of work. We had the day off for a hurricane day from school. No joke. The cement barricades by school which are 15 feet deep usually have a stream with 6 inches of water. Last night they were at 13-14 feet, nearly breeching the banks! Went running up at Olivia's Lookout on Burbank Trail. I felt really good. Went slow and steady the whole way and didn't have to walk once! My fitness is slowly coming back. Now I just need to lose about 20 pounds! Then afterwards we went over to the other trail off the parking lot and went around that one the whole way. Very steep downhill at first. Very pretty views overlooking Stockbridge/Lenox area. I love the Berkshires! Total Distance today was 5 miles (Burbank loop was 3.5 miles in 41:00). Saw two dogs without an owner that came up and said hi. They went swimming in the pond and then ran off. Very cute :) |
