Long slow run on the Bay Trail in San Francisco.  I'm going to do these regardless of how the tendon feels and "run through" this.  I'll see how it goes this week.  7:30 pace, no water on this trail anywhere.

It was 101 F in St. Louis today and 92% humidity but I had to run to get my recovery program done!  6 miles and sweat was squirting out of the holes in my shoes during the run.  How the heck do people live here?

I've been swimming a lot due to a partially torn achilles tendon so I was excited to finally go run again.  The last three races have been total disasters with walks in two of them so I did not know what to expect.  I have been training long slow runs for two weeks mixed in with the swimming, iron supplements and plain time off and have recovered pretty fast.

I ran a three mile warmup to feel things out a bit and felt almost normal for the first time in two months.  I decided to start out slow and see how it felt.  The cannon start sent the entire front line two feet in the air which was pretty funny and I almost forget to start running.  I settled into a comfortable pace and after a bit noticed Rob and Neil ahead so I ran with them for a little while.  The pace was pretty relaxed so I tried relaxing the legs a little and opened my stride.  My Garmin said 5:15 for the first mile.  It was cool to just run without the constant pain and I just enjoyed the race until the 2 mile marker when I noticed my Garmin said 1.8 miles so I shut it off since it's been doing that lately.  Turns out Demetrio, who was driving out front took one turn early to help with the next aid station and the police pace car followed him so the course was cut a bit.  I was real happy to run for the first time at pace in two months without the leg pain.  I'm pretty sure I've been low on iron as well since my legs have gained back so much since paying attenetion to the diet.  Twinkies and gas station hotdogs must eventually take a toll on your body..

I had to rush to the airport for a flight and missed the awards and talking to the guys.  Ran 6 miles in the evening out of Denver airport in between flights, so much nicer than sitting in the plane waiting for people!  Now to start training for the Hood to Coast in two weeks and Top of Utah!
