Intense trail run after work near Breckenridge, CO.  13 miles starting at just above 11,000 feet summiting four 14,000 foot peaks in a loop.  Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln and Bross.  I hit the sunset on each one.  The most beautiful run I have ever done.  Bar none.

And you bounced right back for 23 the next day. Holy cow!

I can only do hard runs every 3 or 4 days now.

These are a different kind of run. I'm not training, just enjoying the time. Slow enough to watch the grass grow.

Still, a 13 mile walk up 14,000 foot peaks would kill me. But I'm adjusting. I really only need to do one hard day/week to run some decent times as long as I keep my mileage consistent.

Pretty intense Steve. Kinda jealous man:)

Awesome pictures.

Pictures are stupid of this run. They don't show any of what it was like. On the third peak, with the third sunset, I just was overcome. I'm planning this again.

I worry about getting lost in the mountains but the bright red line makes it almost impossible.

I know you probably like the Decalibron loop b/c of it's proximity to Denver, but if you ever get a little extra free time, you should head a little further west and tag some of the peaks between Leadville and Buena Vists (Elbert, Massive, Huron, Yale, etc). They're gentle enough that you could run them (less chossy than the Decalibron peaks, too) and I think the views into the Sawatch and Elk Mountains from those summits might even be a step up from the Tenmile range.

Some of that still looks ski-able!

From Steve on Tue, Jul 08, 2014 at 12:11:19 from 66.87.127.23

Decalibron is actually almost two hours out of Denver. Long ways for me while at work. I picked that loop really because it's actually an altitude run without just nonstop climbing. Also I predicted that I could run the 13 miles in close to two hours which made four sunsets a possibility. It's interesting that the FKT for the Decalibron Loop (upper 7.5 miles of this course I ran) is just under two hours! I cut nearly 30 minutes off that. It must not be really contested. Your idea is awesome. I will google earth those today. I want Elbert and Massive on a single run.

Denver is so far away from EVERYTHING in Colorado.

They do a race on that loop, although I assume they don't hit the top of Mt Bross since that is private property.

You'd like the Sawatch peaks. Most of them start in the forest for a while and before you break above treeline, which is nice variety.

People run Belford / Oxford in one shot. I've done it on skis. That might be an even more fun duo than Massive/Elbert.

That is so true. I have never liked Denver and kind of judged Colorado by it. When I started getting into the mountain towns East, it was like a whole new world. Problem is, the traffic to go East is beyond insane.
