Hottest day of running ever, including Grand Canyon stuff.  Ran 5 miles early morning before the sun was up in Cabo.  Then out on Old Mans surf line up I was talking with a local in between breaks and he said that he did buggy and motorcycle rentals out along Baja.  We did some talking and after lunch he picked me up in a dune buggy with a cooler that I put a dozen Diet Cokes in and drove me 15 miles out into the desert mountains.  I stashed Diet Cokes and Chips Ahoy along the way.  103 degrees today, with some humidity, and hit like a brick oven.  I went through eight 20 ounce Cokes and still barely made it back.  Very slow in the heat, clocking 9:10 average pace.

Nice!

Why Diet Coke? I think some real sugar would be better.

Maybe just preference. On long, hot runs I can't handle constant sugar. Seems like I can't absorb water as fast if it has sugar. I am really starting to believe in the system of avoiding all calories in what you drink while running. Drink water or diet drinks and take in solid calories.

Whoa, that's hard core

It's good to have some time finally to train. I'm hoping for about 4 weeks of this and maybe actually being ready for Chicago.
