I have raised two running children, one competitive and one not.

I have learned to run in ice and snow and I don't complain.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Work towards a faster marathon by Spring 2012.

Get my 5K down to 21:30.

Place in my division at duathlon and triathlon.

Train for biathlon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Joining Forrest Gump

Track workout at 5:30pm.  I hate going this late.  but once I am there and running, I feel really good.  Warmed up, did strides, then did tons of exercises to tire out our legs (squats, lunges, calf raises, and many other weird and torturous things).  Then we ran 4 easy miles on tired legs.

Had a bit of fun with my friend Pat on the second stride.  We had a mini race, and both of us had to work to keep the other from getting ahead.  Very exciting.  We finished at exactly the same time.  I have to admit, it was super fun trying not to let him pass me.

A short bike ride this morning, out along the lake, 1 hour out and back.

Enjoy the rest of solstice, everyone!

Tiring out your legs with exercises before running is an interesting approach.

What kind of temperatures do you have in the evening? We're still pretty warm at 5:30.

Oh, Carolyn, it is so cold here all of the time. Today was warm, and it was about 60 I think. I am freezing, just thinking of what summer really is for most people. We are having a nasty one, and I will escape it as soon as my job is over on July 10.

two hours is a short bike ride? I just don't know how your butt can handle that! LOL

auntie, can you actually recommend some good ones? i have one pair, but i feel that better alternatives are available. any suggestions? do you have a favorite?

Spend the big bucks. Its worth it. PearIizumi makes some nice ones. Get online and look at Performance Bike - they have some nice clothes. My club is interested in some new shorts, and we are considering Hincapie gear. I am not familiar with these, though several people in my club like them.
