Early yoga and bike ride.  3 1/2 hours of exercise, and its only 9:30 now!  Biking certainly takes more time than running.  Glad I did it when I did though, because now it is raining!  I've been so lucky lately to get beautiful rides outside.  I got a bit wet this morning near the end, but its not so bad.

UGH!  I'm supposed to do 50 miles (about 3 hours on the bike today, and its just not fit biking weather outdoors.  I managed an hour and a  half this morning before I fell off of the bike from boredom.  Can I actually ride for another 1 1/2 hours this evening?

PM update:  I only made it another hour, late last night.  Ugh!

Day off!  Getting ready to fly to Maui tomorrow, and just too busy!  I'm doing something really scary - I'm not packing running shoes.  And no bike either.

See y'all when I get back!

Arrived home late, late, late last night.  Really early this morning.  Had to get up at 5am to get my husband off for his trip to San Fran.  Its only 7:26 pm now, and I'm fading fast.  And its only 4:26 in Hawaii!  This is just too confusing and I need a night's sleep.

Ran a few miles this morning, to see how the leg felt.  OK, it felt OK.

Went for a bike ride this afternoon, just because it was sunny and I thought it would keep me awake for awhile.  It worked; I'm awake after dinner.  Biking was great, even tired.  The group I have been riding with is all training for triathalons, so I'm just along for the ride, and so that I can work everybody going up the hills.  I am starting to feel like I'm training for a bike event!

It is good to be  home with no rain!

Dang, this is frustrating.  Still cannot run, apparently.  I can tolerate a few miles at an easy pace, but that's it.  So, really, what is the point of running if you can't run fast?  I guess I'll take another week or so off, ride my bike a lot, and see what happens.

Beautiful day; waited until the rain was done and went for a bike ride.  48 miles; longest ride of the season so far.  Lots of hills; it was a great workout!

Did about an hour of stretching and strengthening early this am, then headed up to Mt. Baker, for a totally spring skiing day with my son, husband, and friends.  The snow was insanely fast - I am so grateful to be able to keep up with the 19 year old boys!

Question:  Why am I skiing so well, with perfectly balanced turns, insane speed, endless tuck, when I can't run?  Why am I biking so strong, working the hills, climbing standing for a mile at a time, when I CAN'T RUN!  What is up with this?

Pool running!  Very successful pool running.  I kept it short, but warmed up, did 6X1 minute intervals at 200m hill effort, with 30 second RI.  Then I cooled down.  The warm up and cool down seem like harder effort to me, because the flotation belt is not floaty enough for my zero buoyancy body, and I have to "run" harder than easy pace to keep my chin up!

NO PAIN ANYWHERE!  Even with the harder effort.

I am off to yoga, and will do a bike ride later today.  Weather is still beautiful, although its supposed to be a bit colder today.

PM update:  The bike ride turned out longer than I expected, but it was just so nice out!

Outdoor miles today!  4.61 by myself, then I ran up to the elementary school where I coach some third graders, got them, and went back to the trail for another 1.67 with them.  They are hilarious!  This is early in their 5K training, and this was the first day we went to the trail to run.  I only have four girls, so its pretty easy to keep track of them.  I think I could run a whole marathon just yakking with them.  Time flies.  We threw in some hill sprints near the end.

Yoga class this morning, and a run in cold, hard rain.  Back to winter today; hopefully that means a bit of snow on the mountain.  This coming weekend is closing weekend at Mt. Baker, which means PARTY!  For me it means skate skiing too, since I've accepted an offer for a ski to sea relay team, and I'm doing the first leg, skate skiing.  I'll have to learn fast!

Easy miles with hills - 9:45, 9:08, 9:20, 9:41, 9:30, 9:18.  Followed with squats, lunges, back extensions, push ups, and crunches on the infield.  Got soaking wet and had little bits of fake infield sand all over me.  Went to yoga immediately, with protein drink on the way.

I somehow promised a friend I would ride 60 miles today; I only feel like I have time and NRG for 30.

Its great to be running again!

pm update:  A fast 63 minutes on the bike.  Warm up, 4X4 minute 85% effort intervals, then cool down.  I have no idea at all what 85% effort is on my bike, but I did what I thought it meant.

I'm tired today, so just a few easy miles.  No yoga.  No bike ride.  Ran and then had my husband videotape me for my trainer to see.

Stayed up way too late going to a concert last night, then headed up the mountain for last day!  I don't count downhill skiing as crosstraining (because it isn't!), but I do count XC, since that the closest thing to running in the snow.  This morning I learned to skate ski (sort of).  Wow, what a workout!  I've agreed to be on a ski to sea team, and my leg is the XC portion this year.  Its a challenging and hilly course, and I know I can do better if I can get this skate ski thing conquered.  Its fun!

After lunch, I switched out gear and just enjoyed fast turns on Spring snow with a gang of friends.  Last day is always such a big party up there!  Its really fun, and especially when the weather cooperates.

Wow, so tired last I didn't even post until this morning.  I don't really like 5:30 track workouts, followed by meetings which I attend in sweaty workout clothes, with no dinner, arriving home at 9pm to eat.

Anyway, yoga yesterday morning.  Great  class.  5:30 wu on track 2 miles.  Then strides. Then many many lunges, crunches, squats, planks, calf raises, etc, etc.  Yoga was an ab workout as well, followed by this intense core stuff.  Ouch!  I thought I'd be sore this morning, but NOT!   Followed the workout with an easy run, which turned into a hilarous run, because we all got "lost" in the arboretum and ran way up before we realized what we'd done.  Fun run anyway.

Some runnin' on the trail before the coaching gig.  Still trying to just keep it easy.  I only did about 1/2 of the strengthening exercises that are on my schedule, so I'll do a bunch tonight.

Yoga this morning, focusing on shoulder stuff, it seemed.  Very satisfying.  Followed with 90 minutes on the bicycle, on my pretty blue bike, on some (relatively) flat roads, in the patchy sunshine.  Fast ride!  I think I averaged about 18, which is somewhat faster than usual.  Helps to ride alone.

Tomorrow is my first official speed work day after my little injury and time off.  Looking forward to it; I have missed these intense workouts like crazy!   Its just going to be some 200m sprints, hills and flats.  Wish me luck!

I guess this afternoon, I'll focus mostly on hip/ab/core strengthening and some hip mobility since we didn't do so much of that in yoga.

Up at 4, track by 5, yoga by 7.  Breakfast in the car in between track and yoga.  Then a couple of meetings, a stop and the nursery and grocery, and finally home.  Its only noonish!  Going to rest up and get some gardening done before the rain.

First speed work in about 4 weeks!  200m hill repeats went great - no pain.  MY BODY FELT SO GOOD RUNNING FAST AGAIN!  I had some technical difficulty with the Garmin, and don't have exact times.  They are supposed to be 48 seconds; I am certain they were a bit slow, more like 51 probably.  But no worries about that; I'd rather not push.  I was supposed to do some flat ones, but just did one, because my leg felt "done".  I did some drills, a cool down jog, and went to yoga.  Even though there was no pain while running - which is a big big improvement - Leg is tight now.  Not sure what this means.

Group training run.  I warmed up with the group, couldn't do strides because of my leg, got discouraged, decided not to run, then ran on my own.  As soon as I got away from all the people, I just sort of fell into an effortless, blissful run, no pace, no time, just running.  Nothing hurt.  I met the group coming back up the hill in the last mile and finished off with them.  I think I need more "free" runs, so I'm going to take two weeks  off of any sort of training, and just run when and how far I feel like.  Maybe eliminating any sort of pressure for a few more weeks will eliminate this hamstring injury once and for all.  I am not willing to run with pain, and I am not willing to medicate the pain so that I can run.  AND, I REALLY WANT TO RUN FAST AGAIN!
