A few easy miles to adjust my legs back to Bellingham and stretch them out from the long plane ride.  Its good to be home; I really missed my trails!  I am really looking forward to my race on Saturday, and will just spend the next few days getting reoriented to this time zone and fit to race!

Two nights in my own bed after returning from Paris and off to Tacoma for this 1/2.  I drive down and spend the night, since its a 2 1/2 hour drive, and just a bit too much to tackle early in the am before the race.  I did this same race last year, and PRd with a 1:50:12, AND placed first in my age.  I liked the course; its rolling hilly with a fast finish.  This year, it was suddenly cooler and rainy; kind of a shock to my system.  I took the bus from the hotel near the finish line and spent WAY too long shivering and cold out at the airplane hangar where the race starts.  Finally, I did my warm up a bit too early, just to get warm.

I was supposed to start out at 8 minute miles, speeding up SLIGHTLY at about 15k if I felt good.  I was absolutely determined to follow this plan!  This was supposed to get me a 1:45.  I SERIOUSLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!  I was completely incapable of running 8:00 from the start, so I blew the whole race by starting out a good 30 seconds faster in the first three miles!  I just felt so good to finally be running after all the waiting and freezing.  This is really not an excuse; I guess I just have no self discipline.  Anyway, I'll never know what would have happened if I had followed my plan, and I really regreat this.  On the positive side, I am stronger than last year, so am able to run a race stupidly but slightly faster.

Biking this afternoon to recover.

Easy miles, plus a very short bike ride.

Splits:  9:42, 9:57, 8:56, 9:08, 9:42, 8:34, 8:36.  These splits really reflect how tired my legs are from Saturday's race!  I don't feel tired, but this effort, especially at the beginning really shows some fatigue.  I think this is one of the best ways to see if I'm rested; watch the natural progression to speedier "easy" miles.    My goal is to get back to "rested" status by Saturday's longer run.

Easy run this morning showed some improvement in fatigue; splits were 9:02, 8:50, 8:34, and 9:06, with AP of 8:51.  Much more normal.  Followed the run with yoga class.  It has been a few weeks since my last class, and it was mentally challenging, but felt really great on tight IT bands and hamstrings.  Had a snack and headed to my swimming lesson, but I got a call on the way saying it was canceled.  I was secretly relieved, since I really wanted to ride my bike.  It is sunny, and I don't want to spend one sunny minute indoors in the pool.  Time for that in the winter, I think!

Bike ride was fun!

A beautiful morning!  We seem to be through the cool, grey patch and back to blue skies with little drifty white clouds and sunshine.  Gotta love this while it lasts.

Tempo interval run this morning.  5X6 minute intervals, with 90 second RI in between.  I kept it all trail, because its more fun that way!  Target mile pace is 7:38, actual paces were 7:34, 7:23, 7:38, 7:38, 7:56.  I feel completely recovered from Saturday's race!  This is progress for me, since it is the first time I have ever recognized that I am recovering from anything.  This time, I accepted it, and kept my running sane, and now I feel great!  20 miler on Saturday.

Wow!  Great bike ride tonight.  Much longer and faster than I would have chosen on my own, but I was riding with my bike club, and you never know who will show up for these things!  There were five of us, and noone really wanted to go "easy".  Super fun anyway!  I cannot GET enough food to refuel right now.

The goal today was to do a "recovery" long run.  I was going to run 6 miles at easy, then 6 at marathon pace, then six at easy.  I ended up running 7 at easy (9:30, 9:01, 8:53, 8:53, 8:52, 8:54, 8:58).  Then,  the partner that I was running with for the first six wanted to push the marathon pace faster than I did, so I dropped back a bit and let him go, while waiting for the next group to catch up to me.  My split was 8:58, and it took them a mile to catch up.  I did my MP miles with this small group, splits were 8:49, 8:40, 8:41, 8:155, 8:55, and 8:31.  About mile 11, I took a second GU, and by mile 12.5, I threw up - twice.  No more GU for me.  My next three splits were very easy:  10:48, 10:39, and 8:34.  I walked a bit in those first two, then obviously I felt better.  Last three were 10:36, 10:40, and 9:44.

Not bad for a recovery run, I guess, but I wish the marathon pace miles had been faster, and I wish I had not got sick.  That has never happened to me before!  It is suddenly quite hot here also, 80 plus by the time we finished.  That is hot for us!

Morning run was all at easy, miles ranging from 8:42 - 9:19.  I followed it up with yoga class, which I have been neglecting lately, because of summer and travel.  Felt good to be back in class; I never work as hard on my own.  My shoulder/arm was really sore during class, still is kind of.

PM run was about the same length, with easy miles plus a few strides at the end.

Track workout this morning.  I think sometimes that if I have to do one more 200m workout, I will just fall down and not do it!  I am truly tired of 200m hills and flats.  I want 800s, 1600s, anything but 200s!

The hill ones were .54, .55, .53, .53, .53, .53.

Flat ones were .43, .44, .45, .43.

Easy miles, with long uphills in there, because I am doing a long uphill race, and I believe that it has been neglected in my training plan!

Bike ride to rest the legs.

Its MUCH cooler here today, only about 67 - BRRR!  An adjustment after the little heat wave we just had.

I did a yoga class again today!  Back to two a week, and it feels really good.

This was our group time trial day!  About 20 of us showed up, because everyone loves a mile time trial.  Warm up on the track, then dynamic stretching, then 200m strides.  And, 3,2,1, we're off!

I don't know why, but I love the mile.  I recorded 200m auto laps on my garmin, so I could see just how fast I went out.  Yep, I did.  200m splits are:  .44, .44, .49 (slowing already), .52, .52, .53, .52, .50, and .32 (this one was not full 200m for some reason).  So, I really have to ask myself:  If I had accomplished the first two splits (one lap) at 1:35 as planned, could I have gone faster?

Three miles moderately easy to cool down, and home for some coffee.

A mini run with strides this morning before heading over the mountains in the car to go the the Cutthroat Classic, an 11.1 mile trail race tomorrow!  I've wanted to do this one for several years, and I finally have time.  Its 5 miles steep up, 4 miles steep down and about 2 flattish miles at the end.  Rugged trail.  Freezing elevation has dropped to 7000 feet, so maybe even cold.  Yikes

Well, the bright side of not getting to race yesterday is that I got to do a long run today!  Was just going to do all easy miles.  Splits are 8:59, 8:58, 8:59, 9:02, 8:48, 8:48, 8:36, 8:23, 8:30, 8:34, 8:31, 8:02, 11:48 (stopped to use bathroom and forgot to stop watch!), 8:40, 9;13, 8:02, and 8:18.  There are a couple of accidental marathon miles in there, but the whole run was easy.  It was a beautiful tour of Bellingham, from my house up on the lake, out and around the lake, doubled back and into Whatcom Falls Park for a bit, all the way through the park, out the other side onto city streets for a bit, then down to Squalicum Harbor, where there was a fierce wind, around the harbor, up the hill into town, down South Bay Trail into the little town of Fairhaven, where I was met by a large family and breakfast!  MMMM, bacon!

This was a double run day, both were easy, but the pm one had a few strides.

All day was cold, cold wind and driving rain.  I am totally not mentally prepared for this kind of weather!  So, to toughen myself up, I wore shorts and short sleeves, even though I felt like wearing full fleece.  What is going on?

AM run was 4.8 miles; pm run was 6.04, with .25 strides.
