Broken jaw + metal braces - 12 lbs. + awesome pacer = PR!!!!

My previous 10k PR was 48:20, and I ran 46:51 today. Hooray!

Wowowowowow! What else can I say? It is a gorgeous morning here in DC, not too cold, not too hot, probably about 50 degrees. I biked down to the tidal basin with my friend Brian, who graciously offered to stay with me the entire race. He coaches cross-country at a school near Manassas, so he knows a little about motivation... I was excited.

And off we went, and we hit the first mile at around 7:25, so I thought yikes, I should slow down... but then I thought, maybe I can keep up this pace? The second mile was just about that, and so was the third - and then I saw a hand coming at me and it was my friend John coming on the other side of the road giving me a high five, just the energy I needed. The fourth mile was a bit slower, around 7:40, then around mile 5 I started to get a bit tired - then Brian told me we were so close, that I should just focus on giving everything I had and try to pass one runner at a time... so I did - and just when I thought I had nothing left, I sprinted to the finish line.

It felt soooooo great to hit a PR on this conditions. A huge accomplishment.

After the race I saw my friends Chris and Brent - it's always so great to hang out and chat with other runners after a good race. They even had hot chocolate, so I was able to eat something!

It really was an awesome finish, only 11 days after starting to run again after my jaw surgery, and 3 weeks after my broken jaw accident. I think once the braces come off I'll be able to do great things!!!

Thank you all for your support and happy Sunday!

Another gorgeous day here in DC - a bit windy but so nice.
I'm back on my bike commute! Yeah! So I biked to work - and after work I ran home, six easy miles, a recovery jog you may say. The moon was up high, the wind was blowing, it was cold but not unbearable... just beautiful! Felt great except for a little pain on the bottom of my left foot - I think I need new shoes. Heck, I deserve them, don't I? :)

Walter, you were with me on that run, along with my other friend who just had hernia surgery! I tell you, it's not easy to run with all that weight from you guys on my shoulders!

Since my bike was at work, I ran to work, but I didn't want to push my luck (I'm probably already doing it by running every day), so I went the short way. I brought my crappy Timex gps and it said 4.5 miles and change - so mapmyrun.com is not far off at all! It's a gorgeous morning - one of those that make you feel lucky to be alive. My runs are so beautiful, straight down the mall with the Capitol on one side, the museums around, the Washington Monument straight ahead, the White House, the Watergate Hotel... I've been here for 4 years and still marvel of how lucky I am to be here. Wow. Wow!!!

I really, really, really wanted to run this morning... My alarm went off early cause I wanted to bike to the gym and do a spin class... but I didn't get up. I kept thinking I could just go for a short run and it'd be ok... but I knew I should'nt run every day... so I just biked to work and back home. The bike ride at night is a bit scary, but hey, I fell during the day and on an empty trail, so what's up with that, right?

A beautiful day in DC. Check out the view from my office window:

A rainy and cloudy day here in DC - still gorgeous and not too cold though. So I ran to work with my little Nathan pack. My right shin was hurting a little... please oh please shin splints don't come back!!! I'm going to cross-train tomorrow and run on trails on Saturday, and cross-train again on Sunday... must remember to take it easy and not run every day even though I really really want to! Oh, I got new shoes! Yeah baby yeah!

Another photo from my office window - jealous?

Today is my 1-year citizenship anniversary, and as every day, I feel so lucky to live in this wonderful, if not perfect, country with all of you wonderful people! Happy day!

Right shin hurt from yesterday, so I biked to work and back - a rainy and cold day in DC...

Nada... zero... zippo... Well, almost nothing... didn't do anything during the day - not feeling too well. The doctor cut the wires yesterday and replaced them with rubber bands. So now I can open my mouth a little bit. Let me tell you, after almost 4 weeks of not using your jaw muscles, opening your mouth feels like running a marathon! So I took some ibuprofen and felt better.

Tonight I went to see one of my favorite Argentine bands of all times to the state theatre: Los Enanitos Verdes (the green dwarves). They were un-be-lie-va-ble! Even though I couldn't sing out loud and scream as I wish I could have, I had a blast. I jumped higher than I thought I ever could.

Here are some pics of the concert (thank you Mike!), one with my friend The Razor (how's that for a nickname, Walter?)
