Since my bike was at work, I ran to work, but I didn't want to push my luck (I'm probably already doing it by running every day), so I went the short way. I brought my crappy Timex gps and it said 4.5 miles and change - so mapmyrun.com is not far off at all! It's a gorgeous morning - one of those that make you feel lucky to be alive. My runs are so beautiful, straight down the mall with the Capitol on one side, the museums around, the Washington Monument straight ahead, the White House, the Watergate Hotel... I've been here for 4 years and still marvel of how lucky I am to be here. Wow. Wow!!!

That sounds do wonderful! I am so glad that you are running strong! It makes my day!!1 :) Have fun at work today! When do you go back in to the Doc?

From Lucia on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 10:27:37

Thanks Marion! I go back to the doc on Friday - wires come off but braces stay on, wires are replaced with rubber bands so I'll be able to open my mouth a little more, maybe even brush my teeth and tongue? That will feel like heaven... Two more weeks with the rubber bands and on a liquid diet, and then the braces come off. I'm worried I'll go back to running slow, maybe the metal was the source of my speed? Hahaha!

From marion on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 10:45:40

The metal being the source of your speed is an interresting therory, but not too likely! It's probably the danger of running with the sissors! :)

Lucia,

It's been a long time since I've been to DC but your runs make me want to visit soon.

Glad to know that you will be getting the metal out, the rubber band should be better.

It does sound like a great run with great scenery!! Yeah for the wires coming off---I bet you are DYING to brush your teeth!!!

From Lucia on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 14:37:34

Lori, if you make it out here you have a place to stay and the best tour guide you can imagine!

Kelli, dying is an understatement, trust me ;)

Speaking of tour guides, Rachel has a family friend who works with Park Service. He was able to get me into Robert E. Lee's attic (off limits for the general public). You can see graffiti from the soldiers who stayed there in 1860-something. I love all there is to see there.

Probably the most impressive thing I saw in DC was a street performer using about ten plastic paint buckets to play the drums.

From Lucia on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 15:44:56

Wow that is very cool!

Yes, I have seen much more impressive things outside of DC, like Patagonia, Glacier National Park, and some amazing petroglyphs in Utah and Arizona. But... DC is DC, and it's just kind-of cool to pass a few feet from where the President and his cabinet make decisions that affect the entire world every day, and where the laws that will govern us all are passed...

If you want to see some fabulous street performers, go to Buenos Aires!

Do you ever stop to think while your running, man, this has history all over it! I would love to run there. Ok your officially making me jealous. I must do some Marathon searching for next year. MCM has got to be on my list.

From Lucia on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 21:11:46

Yes, you can do Marine Corps or the National Marathon in March. Of course the Marine Corps is much bigger and famous... It's a must do!

From walter on Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 00:55:06

Ok Lucia! I Will! Ill start watching airfare and see if I cant make a trip of it next year.
