Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

MRI shows a transverse fracture to the neck of the fibula, a few bone contusions, and some sprains and strains in the knee and ankle.  This is good news, nothing surgical.  I have a nasty infected wound on my calf, but they are watching that.  with the swollen bruised calf they did a venous doppar but all was well--no clots.  I will  be referred to ortho tomorrow when they recheck and culture the wound.

I'm so glad that it wasn't worse and that no surgery is required! Did they give you a timeline for healing before you can run? Will you have to wear a cast?

So, April, does this mean that you will be in a cast, or do they mainly use aircasts now anyway? How long on crutches?

This sucks, but it could have been so much worse. I am assuming that maybe since this was caused by impact rather than stress (like from running) that maybe it will heal faster, or at least you will be able to do some sort of weight bearing exercise sooner? lastly, do you know of any PT place in your area that might have an antigravity treadmill? did you see this story picture: https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/c0.0.403.403/p403x403/9369_10151415559171344_909133111_n.jpg (Kevin Ware already walking? running?).

Neasts--they won't do a cast, can't cover my open wounds, and I don't know if the ortho will want a brace or not. So far they are just letting me hang loose as long as I use the crutches and don't bear weight. I think the ortho will decide how long before I put weight on it. Hopefully soon. I still have a lot of swelling within the joint so my knee doesn't bend very far but I expect that to improve as swelling goes down.

Bonnie--the Kevin ware story is incredible, I saw something on it on tv the other night. There are two alter-Gs in town, but I have to get that knee bending and range of motion back before that is an option, and they are expensive!! I am hoping it heals faster too, but while not torn, I have some swollen and angry tendons and ligaments, but swelling has been improved daily, along with pain, so I could be bouncing off the walls with a normal sized leg in a week. :)
