A cold, wet, soggy run. The rain was coming down really hard.  I was due for some hills so I ran up to Bountiful Blvd. then back home.  I felt like I was in cruise control and really didn't push the pace.

I'm putting this in writing because otherwise I won't stick to it.  I am going to stop drinking soda pop.  I have gotten in the habit of getting one 20 oz bottle a day and I'm starting to feel the effects.  I allowed myself to drink it because I want to keep my weight up and figured all of the extra empty calories would help in that regard (I know that doesn't make sense for a runner to say that but I have my reasons).  I don't really like the way I feel so I'm going to go without for awhile to see if I feel better.

Good luck with the soda pop. I've sworn off the candy jar at work for a couple of months, but would probably go crazy without all the Diet Mtn. Dew I drink.

From Cal on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 11:24:34 from 66.133.117.3

We'll be checking on your progress Andy.(btw, I've been off soda for 9 days now... my consumption was in the 48-72 oz per day range)

From RivertonPaul on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 11:27:03 from 67.42.27.114

Nice to hear from you Cal. I had 44 on the way in to work and am already working another can. I rationalize that it is diet.

From Cal on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 11:32:44 from 66.133.117.3

my most recent drink of choice was Diet Pepsi, because it comes in the nice 24 oz bottles. but a couple years ago it was Diet Mtn Dew... (our cafeteria used to refill my 64 oz cup for $.50 so i was doing that 1-2 times a day.)

Soda ... schmoda!!

Andy ... why in the heck are you trying to lose weight?? Have you gained since SGM? I can't imagine you needing to lose weight.

What if you replaced your soda intake with Green Tea?

(no way I could ever stay away from the candy dish ... no stinkin' way)

From Andy on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 12:41:48 from 159.212.71.17

Teena - I'm not trying to lose weight. I have put on 10 pounds since St George but am happy with where I am now even though it makes me a little slower. The problem is that I have been drinking the soda to keep a higher weight which isn't a healthy way to do it. I need to find a way to maintain a higher weight in a healthy way. I'm not sure if that makes any sense. Aren't you supposed to be studying?

From Teena on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 12:46:10 from 67.177.20.13

Yes, I am suppose to be studying but you all are far more interesting than vectors.

Hey ... I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. I am trying to do EXACTLY the same thing. I have added a bunch of strength training, an extra protein shake, and am trying to eat larger portions during meal time.

I am so excited that you are trying to do the same thing. Now I have someone to help me! SWEET!!!

From Rhett on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 12:54:02 from 216.67.216.116

Stopping soda at least on a daily basis will help you feel better. Once I went a year without drinking soda and I didn't miss it. Now I only drink soda as a reward, usually one or two 12oz cans on the weekend and those are diet. Like you, I just don't like how it makes me feel. Good luck. Do like Teena and eat extra protein and good carbs for those extra calories.

From Kathie on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 12:56:29 from 207.155.176.10

All I can say is I hate you both!!! I have been trying to lose the same 10 pounds for two years now! (I guess I have not been trying too hard) Anyway I do understand and I am glad you are giving up the soda... replace it with cheese that is what I want to add back into my diet and can't!

From RivertonPaul on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 12:57:54 from 67.42.27.114

Andy, you can come and take 5 lbs from me any time.

From Andy on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 13:11:53 from 159.212.71.17

Rhett - I gave up soda for a couple of years and only had them as rewards as well. After St George, I completely fell off the wagon and got into the habit of getting one every day.

From Teena on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 13:23:44 from 67.177.20.13

Maybe you should try some aversion therapy. :)

From RivertonPaul on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 13:27:23 from 67.42.27.114

Sounds like Teena is willing to beat the crud out of you, Andy.

From Teena on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 13:30:02 from 67.177.20.13

I need to show off these massive muscles I've been accumulating through all this extra strength training somehow!!

Meet me at the flag pole with a soda Andy!

From James W on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 14:24:45 from 12.151.72.1

Andy, congrats on the decision to stop drinking soda. I just swore off soda again too, but it was for the opposite reason of you - I have been trying to lose all the weight I gained after SGM for some time now, and even though I feel more fit, it has not been coming off. I attribute that to drinking soda - like Cal, I was probably in the 48-64 oz range per day. I have been off soda for more than a week now, the weight is coming off slowly, and I feel better. In time, I am sure I will not miss it . . . :(

From Clay on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 17:17:46 from 66.119.143.249

I have one Cherry Pepsi a day except on Sunday, usually 20 oz's or so. I get them at this little dive in Spanish Fork called Glades, they actually add the Cherry in. Its delicious! I have cut down a lot, I use to have 3 or 4 of them a day! I want to try and cut them out completely, but they are sooooooo good!!! Maybe now that you have put down the gauntlet I need to step up;-)

I don't know if I can, I'm not worthy!!!

From JeffC on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 11:25:54 from 167.207.128.101

All this talk about wanting to increase weight sucks...like Kathie, I hate all of you that are trying to GAIN weight. I can gain ten pounds in a week...I've been trying to lose ten pounds for 2 years now...just bites. And I rarely drink soda...maybe I should start....
