5 months post-surgery this week and I am now feeling about as good as I was at about 2.5 months. I guess that is both a good thing (that I am getting better) and a terrible thing (since I regressed so much). Hopefully it is all ups from here on out. I am rewarding myself (for enduring these past 5 months of absolute joy) with a big trip in August, but I can't decide which to do.

 1) John Muir Trail - I have wanted to do this forever and it looks amazing! My highly potential hiking partner just bailed so I am looking into doing it solo, but that might be pretty rough since I don't know what kind of shape I am going to be in a few months.

2) The Mont Blanc Circuit - Looks even more amazing. It wouldn't be as far and I wouldn't have to carry as much gear as the JMT and there is wine at the end of each day of hiking :) Will cost a ton, but whatever it is just money.

3) Machu Picchu - Have wanted to do this forever as well and I have enough Sky Miles to get there for FREE. August is kind of a crummy time of year to go there though.

Where should I go? Any other ideas?

What a menu of options!

I love the JMT but its always just a (long) day's drive away... if I had the chance to hike the Mont Blanc Circuit, I think that would be my pick of the 3. Its pretty expensive though.

JMT should be mosquito free in August this year, which will make it a much more enjoyable experience :-)

I gotta say Mount Blanc too. Expensive, yes, but a good one to do solo and probably a little less risky with the hip healing (less weight to carry, bailout places if needed, and less remote) Just get there and get done before this craziness over runs the palce. Glad you are looking forward!

Are you going solo?? I could probably plan to be sick with the flu for a week :)

All of them sound incredible. The JMT is on my list. How about the Wind Rivers? There are some really good opportunities for multi-day hikes in some of the most scenic terrain in the lower 48.
