ACorn,
Amazing miles. Nice speedwork the other day. Listen - A 16 minute 5K is well within your reach. And I do not believe it is far off. I probably am a bit more optimistic than most. But you have seen some of the same tables I have! Think VDOT. When I first started running I jokingly said it's all about math. I still believe that to a degree. We do the runs, workouts, speedwork, tempo runs, long runs, etc...and in the end...we obtain faster (PREDICTABLE) results. You and I are in a race to increase our VDOT by four units...I am looking to go from 41-45...You I think from 61-65 from what I remember. I guess a question I would have for you is would it be easier for me to get my VDOT to 45 than it would be for you to get your VDOT to 65? Maybe Jake would know the answer to that one???
At any rate, hope all is well with you and your family. And Congratulations on this fantastic week of running!

I looked at the VDOT tables again. It may be equally hard for me and you to increase our VDOT values by four units. BUT, I can more easily take 40 seconds off my 5K time than you.
My current PR is 23:58 equivalent to VDOT 40.33. Getting the 5k to 23:18 puts VDOT at 41.66. An increase of 1.33 units.
In your case, moving from 16:40 (VDOT 61.5) to 16:00 (VDOT 64.5) requires a 3 unit increase in VDOT value.
For me to improve to your degree (you taking 40 seconds off your 5K time bringing overall time to 16:00), I would have to get my 5K time to 22:33 (VDOT 43.33 and a 3 unit increase) and take 85 seconds off my 5K time compared to your taking 40 seconds off your 5K time.
Had to figure that out...do not mean to get your blog site all congested.
BUT...it is telling...FORTY SECONDS OFF 5k TIME for you = EIGHTY FIVE SECONDS OFF 5k TIME for me = SAME GROWTH LEVEL!
I am up for that challenge.
Talk soon.

Great week! The speedwork you did on Thursday was really impressive and consistent.
