Welcome to the blog, man, and congrats on the recent marriage. You are obviously aware of this given you ran for him, but Rob is such a great source for motivation, and someone who has really earned my respect through his support of my training and pursuit of Boston.

Get that mileage up, and try to enjoy yourself in the process. Based on your times, I have no doubt that you have a sub-18 5K in you. I'm looking to go sub-19 later this month, and maybe 18 - 18:30 on a downhill race in April. This blog is another tool we can all use to help us reach our goals.

AM.

This morning consisted of 4 miles on the treadmill at the Y. Again I did it at 7min pace. I also did some light upper body training to help me keep my form.

PM.

Back to the Y for some more treadmill running. I usally run at the Y this time of year because its dark when ever i get a chance to run, plus i don't like the cold.

Mile 1 = 7:00 pace

Mile 2 = 6:30 pace

Mile 3 = 7:00 pace

Mile 4 = 6:30 pace

Then the steam room. Ahhh. I'm getting a little sore and fatigued. I want to do some speed workouts, maybe ill get some in this weekend.

Benji, 7 minute pace might be a little fast for runs that are supposed to be easy. If your goal now is to build up mileage you should think about doing your easy runs at 7:30 to 8 minute pace.

I Just Run, Thanks. Reading and learning more about running from other runners blogs is very encouraging for me. This blog is like the "eye in the sky". I feel guilty when I don't do a good run now, because everyone sees it.

Its obvious to see I’ve hit my mid week lazy streak… This morning I over slept by an hour and a half. So I didn’t get to run before work. I was planning on doing a long run tonight but my wife and I started making early dinner plans. Of course anything with food is the highlight of my day, I just couldn’t wait for it. I did go by the Y, but all the treadmills were taken. So I went outside and ran the 5k course they have for the tri-sprints. It was a little chilly but I enjoyed it. I didn’t time push my self or check the time. I just ran at the feel good speed. I ran up on a pole cat, luckily he didn’t spray me. It was good run, im glad the daylight is getting longer now. I miss running outside.

From Benji Abrams on Sun, Feb 13, 2011 at 21:25:26 from 67.231.167.250

A pole cat is basically a skunk that doesn’t have a white strip from head to tail. They are all black with a white spot on them. Im not sure if “pole cat” is the proper name for them but that’s what all the hillbillys call them.

Today my wife wanted to go for a run with me, so we did a little jogging around Boyds Mill Pond. Also our dog Scooby tagged along. The temperature was around 65 with light winds, it was a great day to be outside and just be alive. I grabbed my Garmin watch to track my run, but it was dead. So I used my iPod and nike+ to track our run. We ran at a crawling 10:20 pace.

I also rode my bike while my wife was watching some chick flick. I have my road bike on a trainer in front of the TV. Now that’s Lazy! Ha ha.

AM. Back to the grind

I ran an easy 4.5 miles at 7:30 pace.

I've got two races coming up next month a 5k & an 8k. The 5k I'm not so concerned with because it's so large, it's hard to get in a good position at the starting line.  But the 8k is a smaller local race. I've won my age group last year. I may have won my age group the year before, I can't remember now. I want to shave my 8k time. The race isn't until March 26th, so i should have plenty of time to work on it. Please give me some guidance!

Here's a suggestion. Go to the gym and run on treadmills side by side. Then you can run together and still run at your own pace.

Ann and I do that sometimes.

From Benji Abrams on Sun, Feb 27, 2011 at 21:03:05 from 67.231.167.250

I’ve tried to tell her that but she says she hates running on treadmills. I just need to push harder on my morning runs.

On a side note, last November Erik joined the Marines. He called yesterday and said he was going to be driving a Bradley on Monday, and I said hey that’s what Coach Murphy used to ride in when you served. Then I told him about this site, and he told me to tell you hello.

Lunch time walked a mile with my dad.

PM, ran 3 miles at home, but had to cut it short due to pain from blisters on heels.

PM, ran only 2 miles today. My blisters are killing me. Bandaids do not help, ive even tried putting tissue over them and holding that down with tape. but there is still tons of firey pain. I think i my just put on my flip flops and ride my bike around for the rest of the week. A little cross training never hurt anyone!

First of all i would like to apologize for not keeping my blog up to date. I have been doing alot of light jogging but I've been a little lazy when it comes to posting my workouts.

For the past month i haven't really trained for this race. Ive been doing easy 3 and 4 mile jogs about 4 days a week.

The first 6 miles of the race I was doing great, but shortly after fatigue started to set in. Then the sun came out from behind the clouds and it was harsh. Luckily it wasn't out for too long, but I did notice that I had sun burn once I got home. I snagged a power gel at the 9 mile marker, but I couldn't wash that nasty taste out of my mouth. My motivation was gone by the time I got to the 10 mile mark, so I walked at the water table to enjoy a cool drink, I did the same for the 11th and 12th mile water tables. Obviously this is because i haven't trained myself for the distance properly. All in all i had a great time, and i am looking forward to getting back into racing again.
