When we arrived, hardly anyone was there. We went for a 2 mile warm up so Susannah could let me familiarize with the sharp turns and confusing places. It took forever for the people to start the race, we were lined up for at least 15-20 minutes. Susannah and I got so many strides in. When the race finally started, it felt like I was going too fast because it was downhill. Once we got around the first sharp turn, it got better and wider. On the beginning of the first parkway, there were some men riding horses, I was scared that that the horses would freak out at all the runners, but luckily the riders held onto them. At the end of the long stretch of street after the first parkway, it was confusing because I didn't see any direction signs. Luckily the 2 men I was running with at the time pointed it out. At the grass dip, I did a quick headcheck to see where the 2 other girls were in my age division. They were behind me the whole race by about 100 meters, and I was scared they would catch me. I think it's strange how you have to cross the old train tracks and go down a small rock hill in the race, it's seriously a death trap for me. On that parkway, I managed to get ahead of the 2 men, but a woman passed me, I tried to keep up but I was wearing down. I thought "Why is my tummy hurting? Oh...I ate nothing but cookies and whole milk for dinner last night. Why am I sore? Oh yeah, I was playing rugby." I was about 15 feet behind the woman that passed me for the rest of the race, crossing the train tracks again and running through the leafy trail. I actually liked this coarse alot, it was relatively flat, but it was too long. Oh well, I was the 3rd girl, 1st in my age group, so I won a turkey and a trophy. When they were taking the group picture of the 1st and 2nd for each age group, Susannah and I were making faces and flexing our arms. Then we heard the word "Newspaper." oh shoot. :) Oh well, it was a great day, I'm still a little upset Mom didn't bring her camera, because Susannah and I were mirror images with our turkeys and trophies! :)
