No running today...

Several hours after this race while my wife and I were spending the night in Idaho Falls for our anniversary I developed a limp caused by foot pain on side of my foot.  It's a lot better now, I can still feel something there, and I did have some knee pain several hours after the run.  I'm going to have to really watch this close.  I'll see how the running goes tomorrow.  I hope this is nothing serious.  I think it's because of the old shoes I put on after the race and helping with the Family Fun day before we left for IF.  I never took a rest at all after the race.

Kory, I've dealt with foot pain on and off since 2000. The why I get through it is alternating hot cold therapy. Usually before bedtime I'll fill a bucket with hot water and a cup or two of espsom salt. I'll soak the foot for about 10-15 minutes. Then I'll do some easy foot stretching followed by 10-15 minutes in a bucket of ice water. This seems to help a lot...

One more thing I do for foot pain is roll my foot out with a hard ball or a can of soup. Adams advise is supurb though:)

Josse, you just reminding me. For my hard ball I like to have a golf ball in my desk at work and use that to massage away bottom and side foot pain.

Thanks I will try both. I'm really debating if I should run WBR or not. I just don't want to get down there and not be 100% and leave the team out to dry.

From Jon on Sun, Jun 15, 2008 at 23:13:53

Kory, we don't want you to hurt yourself, of course, but you at less than 100% is better than anyone else we can find. You have more weekly miles consitently than anyone else on blue!

From wheakory on Sun, Jun 15, 2008 at 23:43:45

Thanks Jon... If were running this for run than that's where my focus is right now.

I'll evaluate how I'm doing, and right now things are okay. How are you guys training for WBR this week?

From Jon on Sun, Jun 15, 2008 at 23:46:48

I'm just doing a normal week- aiming for 80 miles. I am trying to front-load my week, though, so that Thursday can be an easy day. Day-by-day mileage of 18+16+14+8+race, with 2 runs/day M-W.

I hope the foot and knee improve this week. Do you wanna plan on riding down together on Friday morning?

Where did you end up staying in IF? Did you make it over to The Cellar?

From wheakory on Mon, Jun 16, 2008 at 13:45:30

Jeff - We stayed at the Ameritel Inn next to the Edwards Spectrum movie theater. My wife's favorite place to eat is the Olive Garden so we went there. I really watched what I ate and got one of their low calorie meals.

Friday if you want we can ride down. Are you planning on leaving right after the race is over, that's what I hope I can do. Of course we need to figure out who's going back to Logan from Park City right away.

What time are you leaving Friday?
