I ran 19.04 miles at an overall 6:17 pace in 1:59.   I wanted a faster pace today on the Pocatello Marathon course.  I got up at 4:20am to get ready and started running on the course at 5:20.  I didn't sleep hardly at all, because my stomach had weird issue, which I believed was caused by me eating too much for dinner.  But I felt energized when I got up.

Splits

Mile 1: 6:37

Mile 2: 6:26 (saw a moose in the middle of the road and he decided to move when I got about 15 feet away.  I was scared and the only defense I had was my water bottle).

Mile 3:  6:18  (cruising along in the dark)

Mile 4:  6:20 (trying to stay at a consistent pace)

Mile 5:  6:19  (felt easy, but my stomach was still bothering me)

Mile 6:  6:17  (Still in the dark and my split were consistent.  I felt very alone in the mountians in the dark)

Mile 7:  6:31

Mile 8:  6:33

Mile 9: 6:17  (I see light which got me excited)

Mile 10:  6:03  (I wanted to start picking up the pace because my wife was going to pick me up at 7:15am.  This gave me the motivation to go faster)

Mile 11: 6:08

Mile 12: 5:55  (Heading out of the mountain into Inkom.  Pace felt pretty easy)

Mile 13:  6:19

Mile 14:  6:03

Mile 15:  6:26  (Here's the rolling hills the next two miles, but more uphill than downhill by far)

Mile 16:  6:36

Mile 17:  6:29

Mile 18:  5:46  (I turned on the jets because I knew my wife would be on the course to pick me up and I wanted to really get a couple good last miles.  This didn't feel too bad)

Mile 19:  6:07  (Done.. now time to see my kids off for church camp till Tuesday.  This last mile felt real easy.)

19 miles in under 2 hours? Nice workout, especially at the end of a nice week. Though I'm trying to picture you attacking a moose with a water bottle- ha!

From Paul Ivory on Sat, Aug 02, 2008 at 17:06:33

Kory, same here. I have never heard of a runner challenging a moose. Awesome workout, how do yo do it?

Nice run you're getting in some fast 20 milers. Whats the course record for Pocatello? Do you think you've got a crack at it?

From JimF on Sat, Aug 02, 2008 at 18:06:41

Very nice run considering the stomach issues!

Dave S. I believe the record is 2:41, but I'm going to focus on feeling good and getting into a consistent pace. I'm not going to make any record promises. I want to prove to myself that I can perform well whatever the time maybe.

Paul Ivory - I don't know how I do it, I'm never been so focus on running a marathon course well. I know every turn of this course. The moose did scare me, but I really didn't know what to do.

Kory - Your training has looked really strong the last couple of months. A good tempo run on Thurs and a good long run at a fast pace on Saturday.

Seeing moose is one thing I miss about Pocatello. We used to see them all the time up in Gibson Jack, Mink Creek, Valvehouse draw etc when we ran up there.
