Today I ran 20.3 miles in a 7:08 pace in 2:24:50. I really took it slow in about the first 14 miles than I picked the pace up a bit. Very comfortable run for me. This course was very hilly and I'm sure harder than the Boston Marathon course. Here is a image of the elevation below, I wanted this to be a hard run to evaluate where I'm phyiscally running a up and down course. I feel awesome after the run no soreness. My wife came and met me on the 16 mile teasing me by hanging a vault zero out the window of the car. That's what I like to drink after running. I know it's a pop and not the best thing, but I'm not perfect.

My wife was concerned because I left when it was 9 degrees outside, and blowing. My hands got really cool after the 10 mile, but they were fine by the time I got home. I need to go buy some gore-tex gloves, because I don't see our weather getting warmer. This training is difficult in the cold weather like this, because I can't do speed work with a breathable mask on so I pick days when I can do it. Okay I'll quit whining and quit making excuses. I'll is well though.

Good job on the long run, yesterday in the cold weather. It appears your Boston training is going good. Last year myself and some of the other guys I train with here in St. George went out and ran Boston. My family stayed out away from the city, but were still able to see a lot of places, I would recommend taking the T-rail everywhere you need to go, parking downtown is difficult and the subway line worked well for us. We also went on the Boston Ducktours. It was a fun tour and we were able to see many of the sites. Also fun to just walk the Freedom trail. I know two guys in my running club and here on the Blog are planning to run Boston this year,Clyde and Dave Holt. Clyde ran 3:00 last year at Boston, but ran quite a bit faster at St. George this year 2:36 and Dave is a first timer to Boston, but has a marathon PR of 2:42 or so. Good luck with your training.

Thanks Dustin for the information. I need all the information I can get. I've even been close to Boston before, so I know nothing about the area.

Maybe I'll be able to caught up with these guys while I'm in Boston.

Thanks again

Nice picture. Feeling comfortable for 20 miles at 7:08 average is a very good sign.

When it warms up a bit, find a dry road and run 10 miles on it at 6:10 pace or faster if 6:10 feels way too easy. If 6:10 feels good, you are ready to run 2:50 in Boston with quite a bit of a cushion. Repeat those 10 mile tempos with a warm up and a cooldown once a week.

Thanks Sasha,

I was planning on doing some tempo runs hopefully I can keep a 6:10 pace for 10 miles I've never tried that far of a distance. But it needs to be done if I want to reach my goal. The Lord can give me the strength to do so.

I just bought some Asics DS Trainers to try out. I've never tried them before, I wanted less weight on my feet. I've been running in Avia Lites 10.1 oz and the Asics DS trainers are 9.5 oz which should be fine for my 150 pound frame.

Any other shoe recommendations?

Sasha, I also plan on alternating speed work and hill repeats to get ready for Boston.

If you call 6:40 pace an easy run, and can run a mile in 5:15 on a whim, you should be able to sustain 6:10 quite comfortably.
