This morning the weather was 15 degrees with no wind and it didn't feel cold at all. I got 8 hours of sleep last night and felt fresh. I ran the 10 miles in 1:06 which is way too fast than I wanted to run. But I felt good today, and the run really felt like I was running an easy pace (I guess I must have ate some good wheaties last night). I finished the run with 10.3 miles at an overall 6:40 pace in 1:08. This will be my only run today to continue to cutback for the taper week (if I can contain myself from running after work).

I have a full day at work today, and then have to pick my daughter up from soccer practice after work at 6pm. I really don't have a busy night after work so my rest should be able to continue.

I'm really hoping the weather in Salt Lake City is good for the marathon. No headwind on the course.

Evening

Well I said I wasn't going to run, but I did run one mile to go get my car from Les Schwab. My wife and I drove over there and she took me back to work and our car was done about 30 minutes later.  I had the tires rotated and the breaks checked (their about 30 to 40 percent left), and everything looks good for traveling to Boise this weekend.  I did the mile at an easy 7:26 pace.

Kory, You are really catching up on the sleep that is good to see. You've also hit some good runs, even better to see. It looks like you are going to be the one setting the pace next Saturday. My cold is still bugging me I may take today completely off...

Adam - The hardest part going into a marathon is the last two weeks, not knowing what mileage you should do. I think that limiting the mileage and resting your body is a better approach.

Even though your sick or have a cold your body is still getting the rest it needs from all the months of pounding the pavement getting ready for this one race. You definitely don't want to run when your immune system is vulnerable. Take the rest and don't worry about the mileage. You know the course and you know what you can achieve.

If we can keep each other motivated in the race that will help. Because I know there will be times that I'll struggle a bit in the race and you may too.

Really we have nothing to lose to shoot for 2:35. I was telling my wife that it's going to be the hardest thing I've ever done to try to get a 2:35, and she said you have nothing to lose. I've always played the conservative card in running marathons in the first half so I really need to work on that. I hope I don't try to keep the pace slow the first half.

Hey Kory,

Thanks for the post on my blog. I've been kind of down because of the calf injury, but hopefully it will heal up soon. I guess I didn't know you were planning on running in Salt Lake. Hopefully, the weather will be decent and you guys can hit some good times, I know you've had some good months of training, so you should be ready.

Kory, I agree with your wife and it is the same thing Sandra has been telling me. Right now it is just frustrating dealing with this cold. But as my wife told me last night and least it is this week instead of late next week. I however wish if it was going to happen it would have been in two weeks... I'm also glad that you will be there for the race. At first I was planning on running alone. Then Jeff was going to come and run it and I started to get excited about that option then he had to change plans and you jumped up to the plate. I'm just happy that within the blog there are so many people in similar ability ranges that we can work off of each other for things like this. I'm still a little under the weather today but I'm going to try and get out for some miles later today if I can get caught up with work...
