This morning my hand was really sore from the fall yesterday, and my calf as well.  I had to do my long run today, because we have my son's birthday party tonight and I know I will be up late, and really wouldn't be ready to do the long run tomorrow.  Plus all my kids have some sporting event we have to go to tomorrow.

The temperature was 38 degrees when I started at 6am and I ran up to the Pocatello Marathon starting line which is an ascent of over 1500ft .  (Warm-up miles 8:01,7:37,   This is really where the climb begins 7:38, 7:48, 7:49, 7:51, 7:51, 7:58, 8:46, last mostly up than back down 7:23)  Then I turned back around and picked up the pace, but not really too much. Amazingly I carried a heavy 160z water bottle in my hand the whole time running, and it was cold.   I still need to remember that I just ran a marathon less than two weeks ago so I need to keep my legs fresh for St. George and keep it easy on the downhill.  Anyway, the miles down were not bad (5:48, 5:56, 6:00, 6:04, 6:16,6:46).  I tried to slow down a bit after each mile.  Good run and I know all be sore tomorrow with the elevation climb and the descent.  I was getting tired on the last mile, but I was really tired even starting this run, because I didn't sleep well.  I even went to bed at 9:40, but my hand and calf hurt all night and I got up at 5:30am.

Totals 19.13 miles at an overall 7:11 pace in 2:17

(Saucony Tangent 3  -  299 miles)

 Lunch

300 situps  80 pushups and 2 plank bridges.  I can tell I'm going to be sore from this run tomorrow.  But I also think yesterday's fall has left some soreness too.  I did land on my hip and then rolled on my left leg.   I'm a whip though 1500ft elevation gain is not that much.

Hey nice mileage this week!

How are the hands doing? That fall yesterday sounded pretty nasty.

From wheakory on Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 19:13:19

JD - My hands were sore but I managed. My left calf was a little sore when I woke up this morning also from the fall. I actually climbed 1500ft not 600ft that was a typo.

Sorry to hear about your fall.

I'm watching how you feel this week because I have about the same schedule next week- 100 miles, 2 weeks after a marathon. We'll see if I feel the same.

Are you for sure doing SGM?

From wheakory on Sat, Sep 13, 2008 at 01:40:06

I'm for certain doing SGM. I'm driving to Provo and then riding up with Sasha. I want to try for a 2:30. I know this will be a big challenge, but worth a shot. I've felt pretty good this week on the runs a couple I felt fatigue on, but all and all a good week. This 1500 feet climb really has given me confidence. I think you will definitely be under a 2:30 in SGM.

Just be careful next week and not run too many hard runs. Definitely eat more that's what I've found I've had to do this week.

I think I will taper earlier than you though probably two weeks, because it seemed to work for the Pocatello marathon and I felt real fresh.

Sorry to hear about the fall, hope everything starts feeling better soon.

Nice run, though Pat and I missed your company on Friday morning (a long way to drive for a training run, I know).

Go for the 2:30 at SGM with that great group of FRB guys and you will all succeed (what a group: you, Jon, Walter, Chad, Adam?, Cody?)!

From walter on Sat, Sep 13, 2008 at 12:05:06

Hey Kory, I got a call last night from Karen over the SGM. She wanted to know if I wanted the special aid tables that they do for the faster runners. Have you ever done one in a race? What should I put in them? If anyone on here has done this will you give me some pointers. Thanks She said I could put anything in there so I wonder if roller blades or a horse is out of the question? lol see you guys

From Adam RW on Sat, Sep 13, 2008 at 14:04:14

She told me anything as long as it is legal, so no roller blades Walter. I almost told her not to bother with me though because of the injury, I wish I could tell Jeff to remove the ? from my name but you should keep it there. However, you never know...

On the other hand I don't think that you will have any problem. Kory I think with everything you've done this year and are still doing now you should be set for the 2:30 group.

From Walter on Sat, Sep 13, 2008 at 18:48:18

No roller blades? What about Jon? can i hop on his back when a down hill hits us?

From wheakory on Sat, Sep 13, 2008 at 19:46:31

Walter - I haven't done the water bottle special table thing. But I know you just give them your own water bottles and they will put them at the aid stations. You have to mark your bib number on them. Small squeeze bottles would be best.

I want to hop on Jon's back to on the downhills. Walter we can take turns.

Adam RW - I hope I can hang with the 2:30 group. I usually I'm a slow started, but I wasn't in the Pocatello Marathon.
