November 3, 2012 Just Cuz Half Marathon 1:19:04 second place overall.  (what a difference a year makes)

 


Long-Term Running Goals:

Worship the Lord and praying early in the mornibgs and keep doing that. Staying humble and desperate for the Lord and praying for end-time revival for America.

My Long Term goal is to just run whatever I can.

Hebrews 4:16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

This morning I ran 6.5 miles at an easy 7:20 pace in 40mph winds.  I was still real tired and weak  from all the work yesterday so I didn't want to run anymore.  But I couldn't anyway because I got up so late.  Because I feel tired today I'm going to let my body recover and not run anymore today. 

Running while your tired and weak can't really benefit you any.

Evening:

Ran .3 of a mile from my office.

You hit the nail on the head. No sense in overtraining. That will just lead to injuries.

40 MPH WINDS?! I'd be afraid to go out there. You might float away! Especially if you were wearing some of the 80s swishy pants!

Hey kory, you've run a lot of marathons.. I was talking to my brother last night and we were trying to figure out if you could successfully run a marathon on only 25 or 30 miles a week. I think it's possible because though I don't have logs to prove it I think that's about what I did before my first two marathons. I guess our question is would it be pretty fair to say unless you had experience with marathons before or were just in incredible shape, it'd be hard to break 4 hours on just 25 miles a week?

Benn- My first marathon I ran only about 20 to 30 miles a week, and ran a 3:49 but I was miserable and hit the wall big time. I would agree with your assumption that it's hard to break 4 hours with only that amount of mileage.

That's why I believe if you keep doing what your doing (increase the miles) you'll take an hour off your time.

Really 50 to 60 is a good number to have per week before running your first marathon. I feel this will make it a good experience and not miserable. I walked away from the first one not really feeling like I accomplished anything because I felt so bad.

Success does come from failing first, and that's what I learned in running.
