No running again today for the last time. Tomorrow will be the test on my achilles, and I believe it will be fine because I have absolutely no pain. But I haven't put a lot of stress on it either so will see.

I did 38 minutes on the arc trainer doing hill intervals which was a good workout.  Over 3 miles according to the machine. This is the first time I've ever used the arc trainer before. I got interrupted at the 38 minute mark by one of the Gold Gym employee's letting me know that my wife called and they moved her surgery up to right now, so I had to rush out of there and take her to the Rocky Mountain Surgery Center. She had a cyst removed off the back of her hand. Everything went okay, the cyst was pretty large, but she did have inflammation in the joints below the cyst so hopefully that will clear up.

In a hurry I ran out of the gym to the parking lot and didn't experience any pain. I'm excited to run tomorrow.

Glad to hear everything is okay. I think perhaps the reason why I've had such a horrible time with my achilles issue is that I am not really built for a runner and its my body's way of fighting what I want to do. I'll continue to ice though, but just really wish I had the luck you did. I wasnt even doing anything remotely considered speed or hill stuff when my achilles decided to be a not-so-civil disobedient

Benn: Like I said though I haven't stressed it yet out on the road for any length of time so the real test will be tomorrow morning. I'm really try to be positive which I believe promotes healing too.

Can you take a day off work and stay off your feet? Then you could elevate your leg and ice it. I know this is a hard request. What type of work do you do? That could be the problem with it not healing quickly. I sit-down most of the day so I'm not putting pressure on the achilles all day long.

When you bend your archilles do you hear or feel the crackling in it?

From Lybi on Wed, Feb 20, 2008 at 16:45:37

Good luck on your run tomorrow, Kory. Take it easy! I'm sure you're going to want to run really fast and really far. Resist!

Benn, I was talking to my hubby about your achilles. He was thinking maybe it hads something to do with your everyday (non-running) shoes. What kind of shoe do you wear most of the time?

From Benn on Wed, Feb 20, 2008 at 16:51:51

Kory - I had been feeling a grinding and such for the first 2 weeks.. this week it's gone, but there is still some pain there. Is it still healing do you think? I'm not sure.

As for nonrunning shoes, I only wear running shoes, because I have flat feet and wear orthotics from heel to balls of my feet. So I don't know what to do.

Benn:

Have you tried a massage on that area to get the blood flowing even more in the tendon? As you know that area has little blood flow so that is why keeping the flexibility helps heal and keep it from getting injuried. Massage and just rest off your feet is what I really think you need.

Thanks Lybi,

I know I'm really going to have to ease into the pace and not burst out which is how I feel, but using wisdom (if I have any) I will keep the pace slow.

From Benn on Wed, Feb 20, 2008 at 17:29:09

Oh Kory, what kind of massage stuff do you recommend. Josse recommended this one kind, but I looked it up and none of the therapists in the Capital Region here in NY do that kind of therapy. Also, how do I get a scrip that allows me to do PT without having to pay an arm and a limb out of my pocket.

From josse on Wed, Feb 20, 2008 at 17:33:21

Benn just go get some deep tissue work donw or myofacail work is better. (thats what i do is massage therapy)

Kory don't over do it, I recommend starting with crosstraining so your legs are tired when you run.

From josse on Wed, Feb 20, 2008 at 17:43:35

Benn I look up your are for PT that do Astym (i might have not spelled it right) I got some I used google. You just have to contact them about payment and insurance. All are differant.

From josse on Wed, Feb 20, 2008 at 17:51:48

You can find an astym provider at www.astym.com

Kory: It's great to hear your Achilles is feeling about back to normal and you'll resume running tomorrow. I think I'll echo Lybi and suggest taking it easy the first few days. Good luck! And I'm sure this break won't hurt you at all, you'll be turning in some excellent race results this spring and summer.

From wheakory on Wed, Feb 20, 2008 at 19:20:05

John K, Josse:

How many miles do you suggest I run at an easy pace. This is new territory to me being injuried and coming back from it. I usually run 10 or more a day.

From wheakory on Wed, Feb 20, 2008 at 19:21:29

Josse:

Thanks for your information on the scrap tool. I'm going to order one, you've been very helpful.

From josse on Wed, Feb 20, 2008 at 19:48:01

I would do about 30 mins of crosstraining and about 30 mins if easy running if injury allows. If you have questions on how to use the tool feel free to ask.
