Last night I was able to get about 7 1/2 hours of sleep which I really needed. I spend most of last night trying to put together a portable or permanent Basketball hoop for our girls that we got them. It's very nice with the fiberglass shatter proof backboard that has several levels of height adjustment. It has the nice spring action rim. I still haven't finished it yet I'm having a hard time getting the height assemble adjustment just right. I used to play basketball all the time several years ago, but now I hardly ever play, and I miss that. My 11 and 8 year old daughters love basketball.

Anyway my run today wasn't bad, it rained all night last night making poodles everywhere in the street. I did most of the run on an uphill course and then about a 3 mile downhill back to my house. 11.1 miles at an overall 6:58 pace in 1:17. I ran at a 4:50 pace in one quarter of the last mile to beat a train over the railroad crossing close to my house. I didn't want to get stuck by a train so I kicked it in gear, probably not smart since the train was about 30 yards away when I crossed.

Temperature is starting to get warmer at around 39 degrees this morning. I still haven't decided if I want to run both the full marathons in Salt Lake and Ogden. Part of me thinks I should run just the half in SLC and the full in Ogden. I don't know, any thoughts on this or help would be appreciated?

 Evening

Ran after work around 5:30 from work, 4.3 at an overall easy 6:54 pace in 30:06.  I just wanted to run easy even though the rain was coming down hard and I was soaked.  I wore shirts and a shirt sleeve shirt with arm warmers and gloves.  It's nice just to run easy after a long day at work.

Nice run today, Kory!

As I'm not from out in that direction I'm not sure when the SL Marathon is, but isn't Ogden in May? I mean you're in great shape so you can probably handle a couple full thons, but it all depends if you really want to give it your all. I'd say pick the one you want to shoot for your target time (2:35) at (You're leaning towards Ogden, I take it?)... in that case you could theoretically run the SLC marathon as well if it's in April, maybe make it your last long run? Or race the 1/2 to see what kind of speed youre at for your MP. I don't know though. I'm on the fence myself. I think I'm going to cut all my races, except the fun trail races I do every other Monday (just 5k races), and concentrate on the fall marathon in October. I really want to knock one out of the park. A 4:26 just doesn't feel like it does me justice. haha. I'm sure either way you're going to have a nice race :) I anxiously await to see what you decide you want to do.

Run the second half of SLC to pace me through the tough part of the race :)

In all seriousness, I think it depends on you. So many of the bloggers can do marathons as training runs. I personally only run one a year. But if you are the type of guy that can do it I would say start SLC as your "race" if you feel on that day take it through to the end. If not back off at the 1/2 or even the 20 mile mark and make it a great training run. Another thing to think about and one I've been struggling with since I decided to run SLC is that it sounds like many more of the bloggers in our time range are doing Ogden so you will have much more support that day. Just my 2 cents...

Adam - I would love to pace you and stay with you for the race, but I think your a step above my level in speed. But I could definitely try and if I couldn't do it and feel fatigue I could do what you suggested and make it a training run after 20 miles.

The second half as a lot of turns that's tough if I remember and is mostly flat. If we don't start off too fast than it could be a good race. My problem is I'm never a fast starter so you would probably be way ahead and I would have to try to caught up.

I'll give you a funny story about running the SLC marathon two years ago. I was carrying 5 gels in my shorts, along with a fuel belt, and I had so much weight on me that my shorts kept falling down during the entire run. I'd have to pull them back up because my underwear, "of course". would be showing. I forgot to tie my runner shorts too so that made it worse. I did this through the whole race. Even got worse when I was sprayed down with water around the 21 mile mark, because of the weight of the water on the shorts.

But I was so worried that I would lose my shorts that I never focused on my pace or the course that much. I didn't struggle at all, because I was too worried about my underwear showing. This was only my 3rd marathon. Now that I've ran 13 marathons I've learned a few things. I don't carry water anymore or that many gels.

I have been able to run multiple marathons I did 4 in 9 weeks last year. I do feel I would be recovered for Ogden. If you feel good after SLC would you consider running Ogden.
